Michelin to make all season tires for the 21” Uberturbines wheel sizes.

For many of us the summer only tires aren’t a good fit for all climate areas. I emailed Michelin to see if they would be offering an all season tire for the PUP 255/35-21 XL 98W Front, 275/35-21 XL 103W Rear sizes. I’m not sure what model yet but they are already making this model to the rear tire specs: Pilot® Sport All Season 4

I’d still rather grab a set of 19” wheels with dedicated snow tires.

I would still get a dedicated set of tires for winter. The all seasons would last longer (I put on a lot of miles) and here in Pittsburgh you could still have days drop into the 40s in May that is not good for summer only tires. It would be nice in the future if tesla would give you the option of summer performance tires or all season performance tires as OEM.

Michelin told me early September for the 255/35-21. I was going to pick up a set of Tsportline or Martian wheels but I am leaning towards just putting all seasons on the Uberturbines and calling it a day. I am getting a Cybertruck as soon as they are available so I am trying to reduce my investment in the Y.

This is what I wanna do...I'm guessing we can, calculator say it's 0.3% difference. And little change on the speedo.
We can get those Yokohamas in 265 and 275

Michelin also has a set of all season (PILOT SPORT ALL SEASON 4) with the 265 and 275 sizes. More expense per tire though (~$50/per tire)

Will Tesla deliver these cars with “summer only” tires in the winter? I’m in Washington state and what if I order a Performance for delivery in November or December? It often gets below 30F during that time... which I believe they advise NOT to use those summer tires at that low of a temp. Seems dangerous (liability) for Tesla to deliver the car during that time with a summer tire... could we maybe be getting stock all seasons just before the winter temps show up?

They will only come with summer tires on the Performance Model. That has been the case with S/X/3

Will Tesla refuse to deliver the car to you? Of course not. There is no liability on their end.

The tire manufacturers literally say that the tires are not intended to be used in freezing temperatures. I would think if someone pulled away and got into a crash (maybe killing someone) because of lack of traction they could try and sue Tesla...

Some summer compounds even say that like below 20 or 30F the tires should NOT be flexed under load (used or rolled etc) because that will cause the compound to crack and then they MUST be replaced. I could see Tesla moving a car out for delivery one morning when it was bitterly cold out and possibly damaging the compound just in doing that...

That wouldn’t stop Tesla from delivering the vehicle to you. You can either accept delivery or not.

I wonder if they would warn you not to drive it away....

I could just picture someone that doesn’t really know about tires (or care) buying a Performance for Christmas or something, or because they got an end of the year bonus at work, driving away and damaging the tires, calling Tesla the next day and them going “oh well, that’s on you buddy.”

I bet the delivery “specialists” know less about the tires than the people buying the vehicle.

Now Michelin is saying November 1st for the PILOT SPORT ALL SEASON 4 255/35/R21. The 275/35/R21 is available now. Could I go with the 245/35/R21 for the fronts? I know the speedometer would be off a little bit. Are there any other reasons this would not work or be a bad idea? The temperatures in Indiana are starting to drop and will be below 45* this week. I am thinking I need to do something sooner than later.

I thought about buying new wheels but I don't plan on keeping the Model Y once I get my Cybertruck.

Looks like 245/35/R21 doesn't have the right load rating so it would need to be the 265/35/R21 assuming it doesn't rub.
