As I recall it was a unanimous vote against Tesla in the Michigan legislature. BUT the good news is the state of Michigan still collects their 6% sales tax on the purchase. They’re all a bunch of greedy hypocrites

Vehicles purchased in Ohio pay sales tax to Ohio and then Michigan gets nothing (maybe 0.25% shifts) . Illinois doesn't collect the sales tax and Michigan gets the full 6%.

Speaking of greedy hypocrites: Michigan owns Tesla stock despite ban on sales of its vehicles, report says

This is over 3 years old and I cannot find any recent information. Since they are screwing over Tesla and those that own them it would be nice if they had sold their $72 million dollar stake in TSLA.:) Sweet justice if they have sold it because you know it is worth a helluva lot more today!

UPDATE: State of Michigan Makes Money on Tesla Stock But Won’t Allow Sales Here

Just attempted to contact the Toledo Service Center. The phone tree will not provide access to an actual human, or leave a message. If someone has another number other than 877-798-3752 that gets you to a person please let me know.

I see all these comments of satisfied people in Michigan - how the hell do you contact anyone about a service appointment? All the number does is direct you to the tesla website, or the phone app? I'm hoping I'm just an idiot and the solution for getting someone on the phone is simple; I"m just missing it. For such an expensive vehicle, the service sure is horrible.

Pretty sure that if you want an appointment the only way is through the app. Once in service you can usually reply to a human or leave a message after they call you.

Here is a funny one for us fellow Michiganders.

Had brakes lubricated on the S just before Christmas. Done by mobile service no problem. Fast forward to this year. Wanted the 3 done. No longer will they do brake lubrication mobile. Must be taken to service center. Reason. Too many have seized pins and mobile cant't remove. I asked why is this. Tech says people aren't getting the brakes lubricated.

I wanted to pound my head against the wall. Time to go let my local guy work on the Brembo's. Don't have time for this stuff.

Maybe it's a Model 3 vs S thing?

Is this even listed in the suggested maintenance for Model 3? Genuinely asking, because if it is I missed it. I thought the first maintenance item was a brake fluid check at 2 years.

@RyanF
Yes it is listed. My concern is mobile won't do it. People far from SC won't get it done by third party. Then Tesla gets more stuck pins as it is not done. Cost can be pretty expensive if you get it all locked up.

@whitex
Also not a S vs. 3 thing. I was puzzled and questioned as I had it done not even 30 days prior.

Maybe the new internal software system will track service events and VIN so that those that have had regular pin service can schedule mobile pin service.

Thanks for the head’s-up. I will check with my SC about the brake calipers soon.

How long did this service take? I’m trying to determine if I could wait for the car if I scheduled an appointment and brought the car in.

The Tesla app should notify you when maintenance service is recommended for your vehicle based on your VIN and their maintenance records.

I still don’t understand why Tesla hasn’t partnered with Michigan native American tribes to locate service centers on their reservations. It would satisfy Michigan customers while bringing revenue (and jobs if they give hiring priority to native Americans) to the reservations. A win for everyone, all while sticking their finger into the eyeball of Michigan politics.

That's actually a great idea - putting TESLA sales and service centers on native American reservations.. A friend of mine who is an incredibly "conservative" voter just blew her lid when she found that her state had turned the tables on EV owners by assessing them EXTRA registration fees to make up for lost gasoline taxes, AND has made it nearly impossible for EV companies to provide sales and services. This is definitely a political/ecnomic cabal... and there may soon be coming a tide of people that will vote differently based on the absurd practice of trying to force EV companies and owners back into cars that run on dinosaurs.

Tesla should be able to figure out by address that the car is registered at. Does that state use road salt or encounter wintry conditions. Seems pretty simple add. They send notifications about hurricane and other reasons to charge. Why not send notifications about the things that stop the car.

Good catch! I do now recall this being done on my Subaru. I believe they did this every 30k.
Do you recall the cost when you had this done on your S?

They could even put the service centers at the casinos. It’d be a win win as I’m sure they’d pick up some gaming revenue.

Im actually okay with paying higher registration fees in Michigan to cover road taxes. I just wish trucking companies paid their fair share. One semi does as much damage to the road as 10,000 cars.

However the other BS that this state has done by preventing Tesla to open service centers, is absolutely appalling. Okay...so they can’t open sales centers due to the antiquated and protectionist dealership laws. That’s bad. But I don’t see how they can apply that to service centers. Yes, dealers sell and service cars. But the “selling directly to consumers” is what the law is about.

Any decent shop can lubricate caliper pins. Maybe even indecent ones, too.

The dealers got the “service” part added/included because it also benefitted them. It’s part of the whole law against OEM-owned shops.

The solution to service is allowing more 3rd party shops to get certified to do simple maintenance and repairs that have nothing to do with HV. Brakes, alignments, rotation, and ordering of any parts like that. That will happen when demand... uh... demands it. Or a shop owner becomes a Tesla enthusiast and decides himself.

I'm confused, aren't pads and rotors generally available? Why can't third party shops change them now? Same with tires and alignments, aren't those happening at Belle and others?

Excellent news! Can’t wait to hear the details.

Even if they can’t open stores in Michigan, having service centers here would be huge!

Settling out of court usually means you don’t get everything you were hoping for, but you get something. Hopefully the ‘something’ we get is in-state service centers!!

Hear, hear!

They have two showrooms with test drives and you order on line, so service is the biggie. Other biggie would be local pickup of new cars. Forcing the fiscal transaction to occur in OH just hurts MI sales tax revenue. Given Tesla is dropping the suit, I'm guessing (hope) they got everything.
