I would have to agree I think you have a problem. My Tesla computer seems to do a very good job, much better than any other car I have had. Until I realized how the system works I was easily confused. As Tom said changing modes from standard, to performance to range affects the range over 20%. But if you do the math I believe it is accurate.
Then the system is very sensitive to how you drive. If I have taken a LONG downhill drift versus performance driving it makes a significant difference. But in the real word those things matter as well.
As I get closer to an empty battery the variation is much less which again is just what I expect based on the math by hand. So in conclusion I really appreciate the system giving me the data I need to make informed decisions rather than make assumptions based on very conservative averages.
