On on a side note, looks like the solar farm is live at MSP on top of Ramp Blue/Red and they added 4 more charging stalls. This is great because the last time I flew out of MSP I took the last charging stall in the Blue ramp. They were completely full. Great sign of progress!

2 days ago all stalls were taken. 1 Tesla, 1 i3, 1 Ford and the rest were Volts. Ugh!

P.S. Since MSP is pursuing these green initiatives, they should move these EV stalls to the front and showcase their greenness.

That worries me also. I'm guessing the other ramp or Hump terminal parking would have some open but one needs to allocate time to plan for that then. Might make sense to email the parking management via their website to ask what the plan is. They have been prey responsive when I've asked in the past. I'll let you know what I hear back. Hopefully they plan on adding more with capacity filling up.

Got a response from the parking services at MSP. They stated they will be adding at least 1 more parking spot to each level that has electric stalls now but no timeline defined yet. Additionally they working on adding real time availability status to the webpage (mspairport.com) for the electric stalls so you can check availability in real time.

So sounds promising.

Heading to the Vikings game in Sunday and I see a bunch of options for L2 charging in the ramps around the campus / TCF Stadium. Does anyone have experience using these? Are the typically open and free? One was list as free but the others aren't. Or perhaps someone else has a better option for charging? I need almost a full charge to make it back home so at L2/18 mph charge rate I'm looking at 10 hours or so unfortunately. Damn you missing MSP SuperCharger!

There are a few high amp HPWCs in downtown Minneapolis. You could use one of them and walk/bike/bus to the game. I used the Crowne Plaza one a while ago and it was great, but Plugshare indicates it may be under construction now....anyway there are options.

Depending on the time of day you'll be heading for home and the direction you're going, I could meet you at one of the DCFC chargers in town and you can use my CHAdeMO adapter to get roughly 150 miles of range in an hour of charging.

Thanks for the generous offer. Someone volunteered to drive so the Tesla isn't making the trip after all.

Here is hoping the MSP happens soon. A CHAdeMO adapter doesn't sound like a bad investment however. There are more stations than I thought.

So I did end up driving and we used the (new?) HPWC at the Hyatt Regency/Loring Ramp. 6th Level. 40A only but no additional cost vs ramp fee. These are on Plugshare but not as destination chargers on Tesla's map/list yet. There are 2 of them and they are nicely marked with green stalls and signs. The Crowne Plaza one is apparently still out of use due to construction which is the one I've used in the past.

Any updated info on the Minneapolis SC location or of locations going NW along I-94? When I test drove a Model S a few weeks ago at Eden Prairie, the Product Specialist who helped me said that the Minneapolis one will be going in soon & that at least half of the ones on the route to Winnipeg would be open by fall. I don't know how reliable that information would be, though.

There seems to be a general nationwide slowdown the past 2 months compared with previous years for new construction. Any indication from the rep of which municipality it would be going in?

Its probably more weather related slow downs due the amount of snow and construction in colder climates. In CA we just had 2 more open on the same day probably due more to the favorable climate than anything else.

This is so disappointing... I really want to get a used Model S this August when my Focus Electric lease ends, but without Superchargers along I-94 & I-29 I don't think I'll be able to live without any ICE.

We'll see how committed they are for the increase in expansion which now needs to be done x100 with the Model 3 coming. I know in other parts of the country people are expressing similar frustrations.

It's warm now and is building season so hopefully they will start the process of their 2016 goals for our area.

Also, just checked permits again, nothing.

MSP has, for some reason, been treated differently than the other ~32 largest cities in the United States:

I emailed and got this answer back today:

Thank you for your email. We have chosen a location just outside of Minneapolis in the Oakdale area and we are approaching the construction phase of the project. Once construction begins, a site typically takes 6-8 weeks to complete.

That was an unusually helpful e-mail from the Tesla supercharging team! I searched within the city website and found this from the February 3rd meeting of the City of Oakdale Economic Development Commission:

7. Tesla Car Charging at Hy-Vee
a. Tesla met with staff to discuss options for locating a Tesla charging stationin the parking lot of the Hy-Vee grocery store

That would be at 7180 10th Street North.
