New updates on the Tesla Find Us map:

  • The St. Paul supercharger is pushed to Q4. We still don't have permit information on this one, unless it's the Lino Lakes one (Lino is usually considered a St. Paul suburb).
  • Grand Forks, Watertown and Carlton have been bumped to Q3, but that's not much of a surprise, given that all are under construction.
  • As mentioned in its own thread, Maple Grove has a Q2 2022 estimate now.
  • And we have a new Minnesota-adjacent pin in Sisseton, SD, slated for Q2 2022.

I think these "permits" for superchargers based on the builders are not worthy of having it listed as a permitted site. They should have to have a permit that says Tesla somewhere on there, this way people aren't hounding construction workers not even related to superchargers for other projects at these locations. What do you think @MarcoRP @Chuq

That reasoning makes no sense whatsoever. I find permits (and 811 tickets) like this all the time. Definitely not going to remove the sites, especially if I see a pattern in the mix

And also, please don't spam me 4 times. Just one tag would work mighty fine to get your message across

Sorry about that. I seldom use forum sites so apologies about blowing up your notifications!

Regarding the potential Lino Lakes site at Casey's, I drove by there yesterday, and while I didn't see any positive signs of construction, there were two very conspicuous shipping containers in their parking areas. I didn't have the time to pull in and inspect more closely. Regardless, even though the ground isn't frozen yet, it's pretty late in the year to start construction. I don't expect to see anything significant until next spring at the earliest.

Not counting on this before the end of 2021, but this location helps open up more of the triangle between the Twin Cities, Duluth, and Eau Claire to SR+ to get in and out easily by filling a gap on 35W between Minneapolis and Hinckley.

I still want to see a location at the Target in Virginia, which will open up the Range cities. A location in Silver Bay opens up the North Shore; Grand Marais would open up most of the Boundary Waters and completes the connection from Duluth to Thunder Bay.

Hinckley MN, Christmas day 2021. The two pins in seven of the eight charger connectors were missing. I was very relieved to find that they still worked. I'm not sure if the charge rate was reduced. I expected to get more than 70KW, but it was pretty cold.

In situations like this it’s important to call Tesla & report it. Posting here does nothing to get it fixed. It’s important to call (877) 798-3752 & let Tesla know.

Some interesting MN updates in the latest Find Us update:

  • Monticello, MN has been added with a target of Q3 this year!
  • Maple Grove and Bloomington are showing Q2.
  • Vadnais Heights is showing Q4.
Looks like we'll have some good expansion this year, for Minnesota standards.

I'll take it. Thanks for sharing.

We do still need one on the West side (Willmar, Granite falls area.) I had a pretty bad experience going from Saint Louis Park to Watertown, SD. Granite, it was a cold and direct headwind kind of day. 190 miles apart is too far unless you do <55 mph.

I guess I'll leave this comment every year when they update:

Still waiting on the Grand Marais Supercharger, Tesla.
Not sure if you've seen this, but ZEF installed a station near the Grand Marais city hall. It's got a CHAdeMO plug and a CCS plug as well as two J-1772s. You might not want to get a CHAdeMO adapter, which is totally reasonable, but if your car is compatible with CCS, then that adapter might be a good investment when it comes out.

I used that station last time I was up there over New Year's! It was broken, and made the trip quite annoying; and it took them a month to get around to fixing it. I'm waiting for Tesla to step in and do it right.

Yup, I'm aware of that charger, but it's not really fast enough for how we use it. A Supercharger in Grand Marais will help anyone coming up from Duluth that plans to go into the BWCA via Gunflint, or continuing on into Canada or coming from Canada on 61...or really just traveling around the area in general.

I'd also be fine with somewhere slightly further South...but we definitely need an SC North of Duluth along 61 somewhere.

I stopped into Casey's last fall and asked an employee about a potential Supercharger here and he said he wasn't aware of anything planned. He mentioned the containers were there for the remodel of the store.

Doesn't mean one isn't coming to this location, but I kinda feel like the upcoming location in Vadnais Heights kinda solves the issue as the next one in Hinckley (assuming you're going north) is close enough for all Tesla's to make it there without issue.

I've since driven past Casey's and I see no signs of any construction.

Could be wrong, though.

Drove by Casey's in Lino Lakes the other day. Seems like the store is pretty much remodeled. Will be interesting if there is any activity in the spring or summer.

They should skip Lino Lakes & Vadnais Heights and put a Supercharger in Forest Lake in order to catch traffic both ways before the I-35E/W split. This would also be good for those headed into WI via Highway 8.

Assuming the plan is to continue with Vadnais Heights, Lino Lakes would complement it well, since it catches traffic on 35W at the first exit south of the split. There is also a Target at that interchange, and there is already a significant partnership between Tesla and Target.

As for Forest Lake, probably the most viable location I can think of would be at Running Aces, since it is at the first exit north of the split, and Tesla has already partnered with casinos in a number of other locales.
