Minor damage found after delivery

Hey all,

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with finding some minor damage after delivery. I discovered some damage to the charge port panel about an hour after I had the car. I emailed the delivery personnel that coordinated with me and they said Tesla would not cover it and to set up an appointment to get a cost estimate. Is this normal procedure or are there other avenues I can explore? 1576541771540_IMG_20191214_155232.jpg

I would just show up at the delivery center and ask for them to deal with it. The first response you got is typical, but usually you can find a more reasonable person if you go there in person and ask to speak with a manager.

But this is a good example of why I always tell everyone to plan on spending 45-60 minutes inspecting your car before signing any papers or handing over payment. Don’t let them rush you out the door just because they are busy. It’s your car and you are in control of the process regardless of what any Tesla rep tells you. The transaction is not complete until you sign the papers and give them money and only you can decide when you are ready to do this.

I found a blemish on my steering wheel 2-3 weeks after delivery. I made a mobile service appointment and they replaced it. Have you tried scheduling service through the app? They've been good about putting stuff through as warranty for me.

My car had several exterior defects that I didn't notice until I got the car home into a dry garage. My delivery was outside in heavy wind and rain and it was very difficult to find exterior defects in those weather conditions. I called the SC as soon as I got home and explained the situation. They took care of all the defects with no questions asked....

I am receiving delivery in Hawaii and since Tesla uses a "third party" to ship from Oahu to outer islands (where I am) they mailed me the paperwork (including the delivery document) to sign before I even see the car. I elected to sign everything BUT the document stating I received the car to mail back. I will hand that over when I see and inspect the car. It is hard to believe that they do business this way. The delivery specialist said he has done it that way for 6 years.

How does Tesla provide service on the non-Oahu islands? I know they are well equipped in Oahu but I can’t imagine they have any service centers on the other islands? Do they have local parts? Mobile ranger? If the car needs major service do they have to put it on a boat back to Oahu?

Yes, from what I understand mobile rangers can do all but the major in-shop repairs which would have to ship to Oahu. It is 2 to 3 days to transport inter island but I sincerely hope I get a good one lol.

Are there numbers for the service centers around the country? I picked up my car at the delivery center in Tampa, Florida.

You will have much better luck just driving to the service center, rather than attempting to call someone and set something up. Preferrably, you would drive to the delivery center where you picked up the car, and show them that. They likely can fix it very fast. I understand the desire to call and setup something in advance, thats what I like to do as well, but you will have a heck of a time trying to get anyone from tesla on the phone, ESPECIALLY at a delivery center, and ESPECIALLY right now.
