    No, not clear at all. How else would Shashua cast this development?

    Given that Tesla has been looking to replace Mobileye for some time now, it is not clear who broke up with whom. It is interesting to note that LIDAR is not in the primary sensor suite of this new announcement. Strange that this complementary announcement is for 2019, and the BMW + Intel announcement was for 2021. The throwing around of timelines, and laypeople trying to sort out if they mean SAE or NHTSA level 4 is definitely confusing. At SAE Level 4, or NHTSA Level 3 is definitely well within the same timeframe as Tesla's efforts.

    It was pretty clear before. Tesla wanted special treatment and wanted to move forward quickly. The MobilEye timeline was still five years out and this wasn't good enough. The accident made it very clear that Level 4 (NHTSA) needs to be a priority.

    In this situation Delphi actually has much more advanced systems than MobilEye and is far closer to Level 4. The partnership with Delphi will speed up the Level 4 timeline for MobilEye but even together it's still not where Elon wants to be. He want's Level 4 ASAP
