Model 3 and radar detectors

I just picked up omy M3P today. I have a radar detector, but the 12V is too far away for my to hang it from the windshield. I thought there was some USB's near/under the screen, but I can't find any other than the 2 in the back. I don't want to hardwire a detector, and don't want to really take the car apart to run a cable. Isn't there any other way, besides for getting a wireless detector?

Not sure the USB ports are your answer but that might depend on your detector. My radar detectors have all been 12v and USB ports only provide 5v. I have looked a few times but never found a good way to power a detector from a usb source.

I've run my Escort on the USB-A just fine FWIW using this adapter-

That said- newer cars come with USB-C port that can provide a lot more power than the USB-A ones did.

I don't think there's a clean uncluttered solution that doesn't involve hard-wiring for radar detectors requiring wired power. There are not many panels that need removal to do a clean hard-wired solution and it would also be fairly easy to remove everything without a trace.

I had a shop do the install for me For $150
I’ve got a Blendmount and Wiretap kit from previous vehicles, but everything I’ve seen online indicates there is only constant 12v power at the rear view mirror. Does the radar detector properly power off?

Assuming it does work properly, if you’re able to get a pic of what wire the shop tapped into for switched power that would help many of us out.

I’d also appreciate hearing where the best place is to tap into.
Depends on the year. If it's a 2018, there's an empty slot you can put a terminal into near the driver side kick panel. If it's newer than you can always tap the 12v cigarette lighter or you can just wire into the 12v penthouse underneath the rear seat. I have a 2018 so I was able to put the terminal into the open slot behind the kick panel. Some have said you can tap the wire that's in the spot even if it's populated. Radar detector stays powered on for 30min or so after I exit the vehicle until it goes to sleep or if sentry mode is on. There are a ton of threads on here about hardwiring a radar detector.

Here are the instructions I followed. How to Hard Wire Install a Radar Detector to the Tesla Model 3

Thanks. Sorry for not specifying. I’m a 2021.

Here's my setup. R7 on a blendmount hardwired into the fuse slot behind the driver's side kick panel. I modded the hardwire mute to go to a button that I mounted between the seat and center console so I can mute easily.
