You still get the first ~$30k tax free... so it's not like you have to pay taxes on a $40k car but not a $30k car. You're only paying taxes on every dollar over the cutoff.

Which is really the only thing the law needed to do. Why still put a upper cap to this? Sigh.

I guess we'd have to lobby to raise the limit in a couple of years. Given low sales of Leaf this year - I don't think we'll hit 7,500 all that soon.

The lobbyists always get in the middle of these things. I wish Washington had done something sensible like give a sales tax break on the first $35K of any qualifying EV and just sunset it after a certain time period. I know the talking point about the $35K limit was they didn't want to give tax breaks to rich people who could afford expensive EVs. Some of us aren't all that rich, we are only going to be able to afford the expensive EV by saving like mad. And I already pay a heck of a lot in taxes to help other people's kids get educated because I don't have any myself. (I don't have a major problem with it, I think we all benefit indirectly from a well educated population.)

Anyway, that how I would have done it. But politicians rarely listen to me.

That's great news IF the limit is increased over 7,500 cars...otherwise, it won't benefit many of us. But the $7500 fed tax credit and avoidance of $32K of state sales tax really makes the 3 a easier purchase to justify...
