Elon's tweet storming again. Buried in the replies about the Tesla Semi event being delayed is a reply to someone that he expects the Model 3 design studio to go live for the first group of non-employee reservation holders in about 6-8 weeks.

Big surprise, the delivery window estimator is a bunch of BS.

What's the earliest estimate people have? October-December? If the studio only goes live on Dec 1, order, a few weeks to build, and some time for delivery? Yeah... I don't see many "regular" people getting their cars before 2018.

He and Fred are still talking... don't jump to conclusions... only one or two questions in config, anyway (color and wheels...).

Wait, I am really confused by his remarks. After saying this, Fred from electrek pressed him if this meant the October dates were out the window. Musk responded they could still make non-employee deliveries before the end of October. Does he mean the FULL configurator in 6-8 weeks (not just choose color/wheels)?

Somebody with an Oct-Dec estimate specifically asked whether he would get his by December, and Elon's answer was "probably".

I doubt it, this is more of the same until 'some time' next year.

Not a good sign. With current non-employee reservations starting around November, it appears that the estimator will be approximately 2 months behind (after accounting for December design studio opening up and actual delivery taking place).

Someone called him out on his constant delays

Elon's reply "I'm doing my best to recalibrate[sic], but that is a fair criticism. However, if I wasn't inherently optimistic, I wouldn't be doing electric cars and rockets in the first place!"

    Well put, well put

This is the problem I've always had, what did the range mean... West to East Coast, or just fudge factor...

Elon also promised FSD in 3, maybe 6 months.

In case you're not aware, it's been well out of that window, and EAP is still missing the E, and no FSD on the horizon.

From what I take from this is that Elon is saying the design studio is only needed when we actually have more options to pick from than just color and wheel size. I'm betting that the first bunch of regular customers will be directed to an ordering page very similar to the one that the employees used. The design studio comes online for orders once more configuration options become available.

OK, that's certainly not new info. Feel free to not trust Tesla dates, and that's fully understandable. But we still don't know for sure that the delivery estimator will end up being wrong. I certainly always believed that Oct-Dec meant Dec. I'm still not sure whether I'll get my car in December or not.

Past performance is no indicator of future returns ;) I get it, but there's also the saying of "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice..."

Here's another tweet reply of interest: Elon Musk on Twitter

According to Elon heated seats are going to be standard, there will be no tow hitch option and an extended warranty "doesn't matter".
