Model 3 glass roof failing - do others have this issue ?

I’m curious to see how much a replacement glass roof will cost... if Tesla won’t cover it under warranty your Comprehensive insurance should. Based on the photo looks like someone hit it with a bar or hammer.
Was quoted $1100 + tax by Tesla service center today; that's with them ordering parts and another company doing the install. No idea how it cracked like that... car is kept in locked garaged, so while parked is unlikely. If there really was some road debris it woulda had to been pretty darn small to go unnoticed while driving... I suspect the Model 3 roof is exceptionally weak in this specific area. If there are a lot of owners seeing similar breakage patterns from just stress fractures as well, then perhaps just a tiny pebble in gentle breeze can take it down? :( :(

This just showed up on the rear window. Two separate cracks No impact. Any recommendations before I talk to service?

Whoa. That looks EXACTLY like the "Tesla Logo" Stress Crack and I would show the photos of others that had that exact same pattern.

P.S. There is a Mobile Service Tech that was answering questions. Maybe he can help.
Still no luck unfortunately. Also, waiting 3 weeks now for the replacement glass roof to be available in a Silicon Valley service center, even when paying out of pocket... :/

I'd try a carefully crafted Elon Tweet.

You could also bring it to a 3rd party glass place just for an unbiased expert opinion.

A chip out of the glass is no proof it wasn't a stress crack.
Is another Service Center an option?

Not to rub salt in the wound, but dropped by the service center today. They confirmed it was a stress crack. Some guy from Idaho cancelled his rear glass replacement and I’ll be getting his on a Friday as a warranty repair. It helps to have a great service center in a low population state.

I am not sure if there is any way that I can help, but Tesla replaced my roof glass under warranty. The crack pattern is identical for your roof, my roof, and Ben's roof. Square curved glass would be under stress if the car is on an uneven surface and perhaps some units do not have sufficient compliance in the glass/frame adhesive.

I really love this car and it seems like there are just a few incidents of this type...

Welp, finally got the Model 3 glass roof fixed/replaced after waiting 4+ weeks for the part. Cost a little over $1000 after tax.
However it now looks a little weird to me... did the roof always have wider gaps to the car’s metal side frames than the windshield & rear glass? Now I wish I saved more detailed photos from the original roof appearance. They used a rev D part number for the replacement... certainly it wasn't the wrong part for my early VIN?!?

It’s laminate glass. There are two layers. You should be ok. I had 3 lines cracking. Each was about 12” long. Tesla Service will take care if you.

No, there is big chance Tesla won't claim responsibility for the crack. That is what happening to my Model 3, and I am fighting for it. They can't just "run a ball-point pen" over it and found the crack on the outside then claim that it was "outside influence". I don't think so... Cracking glass is happening too many to blame it on something else!

Yeah they said that since there was a super tiny glass piece missing near the front they believed it was impact not stress fracture :(

FYI. The crack on my 1 month old M3 (Dec 24, 2019) has no visibility of any "outside influence" (Tesla's term - don't want to claim defect/design flaw...responsibilty) and they still don't accept responsibility either.... I have filed complain with NHTSA along with many other owners...I would suggest you do too. :))

I have a Model 3, in the 3000 VIN range, which I purchased in January. Apart from a brake light moisture issue which was fixed in 3 days, until one week ago I was quite happy with the car. That was when I noticed that a foot wide and foot high series of cracks in a shape vaguely like that of the Tesla logo had appeared in the front and center of the glass roof. The car is kept in a garage at home and at work and there have been no impacts on the roof. I contacted the local Tesla service center and was told they needed to order the replacement part and would let me know when it came in. After a week, I contacted them again to ask how long it would be to fix it. I was then told that I would need to wait an additional 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile over the week the cracks have spread by another 8 inches on both sides and are much deeper. Soon the entire front third of the glass roof looks like it is going to crack. I then offered to bring the car in for inspection so they can see how big the issue is (photographs do not show the problem very well). I also think they should investigate it in case this is a manufacturing issue that only shows up after 4 months, when the car has been exposed to heat and cold (the car is not in California). They agreed to look at it and I brought the car in today to my local Tesla Service Center.

Today, a Tesla service center person looked at the cracking and agreed that it was stress cracking and not due to an impact. The front two inches of the glass roof overlap with metal and he noticed that there was a very deep crack in that area which I had previously not noticed as it is not visible from inside the car. He told me not to worry --- that the roof was laminated glass and the roof would not break and was still waterproof. That said, he then decided to tape the deep crack with cellophane tape "to keep the air out". And when I again asked about how soon they would replace the roof, he told me that I will still going to have to wait a month or two because he can't get the part soon. I am one day of ground shipping away from California and surely there is a warehouse of glass roofs in Fremont, waiting to be used for new Model 3's.

If the roof cracks continue to extend, in a week or so, I am not sure the car will still be driveable since I am not willing to risk driving a car in the rain with 1/3 of the glass roof badly cracked and there already is what looks like could be an actual hole above the front metal part of the roof. Plus if the Tesla Service person is taping a part of the glass roof, I take that as a bad sign.

I do not think this failure of the glass roof in a new car (from stress cracking, ie a manufacturing or parts problem) is being addressed in a professional manner because the issue deserves immediate repair not what could be a 2 month delay. There are very few Model 3's that are 4 months old so there can't be many service issues yet so it is hard to understand why I am being put off by the Tesla Service Center. It was my idea to drive to the Service Center --- it has been hard to get their attention on this issue.

I would like suggestions on what to do and whether any other Model 3 owner has seen this problem yet.

My M3 top-glass also cracked after 4 weeks new. It was obviously not an "outside influence" which they claimed therefore not responsible for it. I've noticed this is not a rare case but quite many owners, especially M3. It got to be stress/body-flex/defect/low quality glass.... I've just filed a formal complaint with NHTSA, and noticed owners are starting to pile up.
