Model 3 highland build quality

I didn't say the quality is low. I said China hasn't SHOWN that it can make high quality cars yet. Applying your logic about Apple is irrelevant because China has made high quality telecom for YEARS. This topic is about fit and finish on Tesla cars, which Tesla DICTATES. This debate isn't about the quality of raw materials sourced in the 2 regions; it is about things like QC, which AGAIN, is TESLA's process. this isn't outsourced. Rumors can have life but there needs to be data. The data we have is that the Panasonic batteries outperform the LG ones. That's the ONLY difference we know about
Go check BYD Seals or Xpeng reviews on Youtube out in Europe. Those cars are very nice for the price.

I have a 2021 MYLR and test drove a 2024 M3LR today. I was very impressed.

I have no squeaks or rattles in my MY after 3 years, but I found the interior cabin to be noticeably quieter on the M3 (less road noise). I felt the seats were more comfortable in the M3... and cooled! The suspension on the M3 was also more comfortable than on my MY. The rear seats on my MY are roomier than the M3, but I don't have that cool entertainment screen in the back like the new M3, so my guess is the kids would give the win to the M3. Not gonna lie, I had a little trouble with the removal of the stalks, but I think I would get used to it after a week or two.

I have zero complaints about my 2021 MY, but the 2024 M3 clearly showed iterative improvement. I suspect that the road noise and suspension improvements have already made their way into the latest Model Ys. The Juniper Model Y will add the rear seat entertainment screen, cooled seats, ambient lighting... and remove the stalks. Gonna be a great car, but I wouldn't trade a 2024 MY for it based on what I know so far.
My model Y 23 Berlin made rattles. Especially from back side of car... I have tried everything, nothing helped. I need to always have turn on radio not to get crazy. It probably depends, where do you drive your car. If only on Switzerland smooth roads or on UK backroads and city streets with "stone bricks" - don't know the proper name.

OK. That proves my point. I don't believe in youtube ratings. It makes no difference what people are "saying" now. It matters that China has not established itself as a quality auto manufacturer. There are people in this thread that think China adds some level of QC above and beyond what Tesla ALLOWS. It is an absolute JOKE. The Euro Tesla folks need to shift and be more analytical instead of this. EVs aren't new and it isn't groundbreaking.

I agree. They look good on the surface but who knows a BYD Seal is as good as a Tesla Model 3 other than on the surface and the price? That's what people look at first. If one is $5000 cheaper, has more gadgets and looks pretty good then people will buy that.

I have a 2018 Model 3 LR and I had a chance to ride and drive a new Highland M3 MR a few months ago down in Austin. I think the Highland is a better car. Much less road noise, more features, the screen seemed "better" as well. I also thought the cameras produced even better images than the original. You also get a power open and close trunk. AC seats and a rear screen. They've also done away with the two steering wheel stalks. I'm not sure I like that, but I suppose you get used it. And to address the OPs question, there were no rattles unlike my car which had two one of which was fixed. The other one I know where it's coming from and if I ever have a reason for a repair I'll have them fix that one too.

The one thing it did not like for sure was the amount of checking Autopilot subjects you to now. The Highland uses a camera on the rear mirror to make sure your eyes are on the road at all times, but it's way too picky IMO. My friend can't even check the side mirrors now without getting an Autopilot warning. She called Tesla and they insisted it was all her fault. I didn't have nearly as many problems. I think it has something to do with her height or maybe her eyes, but it was over the top and she wasn't doing anything wrong. Also, if you "violate" the Autopilot "rules" too much it shuts you out for much longer. She told me it can be days. Since she gets so many baseless warnings it's been a real pain for her.

Wonder if that’d work. I do notice a big difference when I drive my wife’s ‘23 Model Y, compared to when I’m in my 2018 3. The interior camera on mine doesn’t seem to notice me at all.
I would start by putting a piece of electrical tape on it to see what happens. It now detects a blocked camera and will shut you down but maybe older models are not affected so worth a black tape test to see. I did have one in my 2020 Y but removed it because it detected a blocked camera.

I'm going to guess that blocking that camera will result in AP not being available.

Is this a serious post? If so, you should sell the car and move on. This BS was relevant when Tesla had made 10 model Y, not after millions. The Highland is more refined than the outgoing Model 3, but the difference isn't night and day.

Huh? I had a '23 Model Y that had gaps large enough to put your finger through, a rear gate that was so misaligned from the factory that after many many repairs, they just couldn't fix, missing window trim (from the factory) and a failed rear drive unit at 2,000 miles. Tesla's build quality is legendary and not in a good way. The OP is asking a very valid question and it's something I'm also curious about. Hopefully it's improving.

Giga Shanghai is known to be best built compared to which? Made in China cars has never been a thing in the USA. China has never had good quality cars. Things may be changing now. I am curious if the Teslas built in Germany are very different.

China never had good quality cars? Have you heard of the award-winning Volvo XC90? Because that's a car made in China. It's build like a tank and the fit and finish is lightyears ahead of Tesla, if we are to compare them side by side.

I have also driven in many BYD models when overseas and they are rock solid as well.

There are alot of well built products from China. From high end hi-fi systems to computers. Lest we forget the iProducts are from there too. I am perplexed at the generalization. Overall sentiment thus far from RoW is that Giga Shanghai produced Teslas are off better grade than Stateside. YMMV.
Perhaps it's a Made in America biasedness?

I have owned a few US built cars and while generally problem free, they are never as well put together compared to Japanese ones of the same brand.
