How can you tell from ordering the fob on the site that you're getting the latest one that supports passive entry? In the help section it still says it does not support passive entry.

My phone has been working just fine. I like not having to carry a bulky FOB in my pocket. Although I guess this is a good addition for those that have issues with their phones.

I assume this thing just has a built in BT transmitter that works like the phone. The car doesn't seem to have the hardware needed for a more traditional RF based keyless entry system.

The old fob is Bluetooth LE as well. Once folks get the new unit in hand we will be able to see what the differences are.

I wonder why it doesn't work with passive entry then. If it's got the BT connection it shouldn't be any different than the phone should it?
I have no clue why they won’t update our existing units. Or at least I can’t say without the new unit in hand (though I will happily wait for someone else to do a tear down).

The most likely explanation is that they couldn't get adequate battery life with whatever hardware they were using for the 1st gen one, and now they can.

I wonder what the difference will be now with the Model S Fob - wonder if they use the same passive entry system. Not likely, but it would be great to be able to use one for both.

Just ordered one as well! Hopefully they won't sell out so quick and everyone who wants one will be able to actually purchase one.

I got the email from them this time, but was stuck at work and didn’t get it until a few hours later. Already out of stock again. Hopefully next time.
