I just compared Tesla insurance to my current Geico coverage (have 4 cars with them - 2 are classics) and they were pretty close. $118/mo for Tesla and $121/mo for Geico. I was surprised because most people seem to have a much lower price for Tesla insurance than their existing company, but when I matched coverages between the 2, the difference was minimal.
It's cuz you have multiple cars with Geico

do you guys know how the insurance thing works with tesla? do you get insurance before you get the car? or can you pick up your car then get insurance on the car? cause when i ordered it says that proof of insurance is required to take delivery and vin must be lsited on the policy except these states which CA is one of them. So can i take delivery without getting insurance? cause with all my other cars i never had to get insurance beforehand just went to the dealer bought the car drove it home and then called my insurance company to switch the insurance. so wondering how does this work with tesla?

In California you have a grace period of I believe 30 days before adding your new car to your policy (or getting a different policy.) From what I had read all you need to do is bring your current insurance policy in to pick up your car. I uploaded a copy of my current policy on the "Next Steps" page in my Tesla account.

yeah that's what i did to... but was still unsure if tesla actually required that i have the tesla on insurance or not since i came this close to getting a vin and don't want anythign to delay the delivery date.

It varies by state. Many states let you drive off with current insurance, others require a policy in force to complete delivery. Check with your SA tomorrow before your appointment.

My state (NV) is one of the ones Tesla doesn't have on their exception list, I asked the Sales person when they called me to confirm I wanted the car still and she said they really don't care for delivery since I was buying the car, they have it on there on a reminder and since i'm buying the car it's my problem. It sounded like they'd only enforce it themselves if the car was a lease. I'm going to ask again when I schedule delivery but it made more sense than them forcing insurance before people even have the car.

I know the car needs to be registered within 30 days and I need insurance to register it so I take it like that's when it really becomes a deadline and that's by the state and not Tesla itself.

Every day they update and push the EDD back? That must be super frustrating!
And more evidence of white interiors currently having bigger gaps between OD and EDD than on black interiors
