Ouch, how did that happen? Was it on the freeway or was it rockfall off of Fuerte Drive embankments? I've seen rocks there on many occasions and with all the rain this year it must be pretty unstable.

Can you keep the battery? I bet they go for good money on eBay.
I would look into getting a used one from a salvage car.

Looks like battery modules go for $3k a piece on eBay so I bet pack with one damaged module would be worth at least $9k.

Definitely sounds like you should ask for that part back after getting your battery replaced (in California if you ask for this prior to the work order being placed, they are required to give the old battery back - but maybe Tesla would not do the work if you request this...)! Going to need quite a trailer to lug it around though. I don't imagine the service center will be very accommodating but I guess you never know.

I don't think Tesla has ever covered for road damage. They do however cover if the car burns up, even if it is because of road damage or negligence. But we haven't seen Model 3 packs catching fire even when damaged...

Ouch. I'm guessing that pricing is with a returned core. I believe they can price differently for core vs non-core return.

Since the battery is already damaged, this could be a good time to test one. Shoot a few holes in it and see if it catches fire. After you have it out of the car, of course.

This should be covered under your comprehensive insurance, less deductible of course.

Would like to hear size of the rock, speed etc that could cause this damage. Were you on a paved road? Agree that insurance should cover this since it was damage caused while driving.

Yea, I'm pretty sure that wasn't just "run over a rock" it sounds more like it would have been "landed at high speed on a boulder"

FYI the S shield only covers the front edge of the pack, not the whole pack.
