Called Tesla today after noticing my edit link disappeared yesterday and link to enter loan application became available....was told there are no updates with my order. Will update if I receive new info from Tesla

When trying to decide between the LRD and P3D, people usually think about differences such as free supercharging, 4.4s vs 3.4s 0-60, track mode, stronger brakes, etc. but instead of focusing too much on these details, I would recommend thinking about the ownership duration. Considering how quickly Tesla changed from Model S P85+ without Autopilot to P85D with AP1.0 and Insane Mode and then to P90D and P100D with AP2.5 and Ludicrous Mode, it might not be the best choice to buy the top of the line version for a long time, let's say 4 years or longer. I think 2018 LRD for 2 years + 2020 LRD for 2 years is a better choice than 2018 P for 4 years. But if somebody is planning to buy the P version for only 2 years, then that's an excellent idea too.

The only problem I have with this logic is that, while you're correct if you're looking for the latest features and capabilities. If you're concerned primarily about 0-60 performance, there isn't a ginormous gap between the years. I mean, they did push the capabilities of 0-60 more and more with the later models, but it didn't make the earlier models slower.

Doing some research I found the following
2013 P85: 3.9
2015 P85D: 3.1
2015 P85DL: 2.9
2016 P90D: 2.8
2017 P100DL: 2.4
2017 P100DL+: 2.3

I wouldn't say the P85 from 2013 is slow as even the AWD Model 3 right now can only do 0-60 in 4.4, and a S 100D, does it in 4.1 or so. If you're looking for the very best then yes, you're going to have to be prepared to always upgrade if you want that very best but that has been the case in tech for a long time now due the rapid pace of development. Once you're in the ~3 to 2s range, development falls off rapidly without considerable costs.

That being said, if you don't care about performance, and looking at general UI improvements, you'll want to always keep updating. I'm a fan of leasing in that regard, but I don't see a way to enter the performance market without spending a lot period.

Still haven’t received an email of call from a Delivery advisor. But I was able to get my VIN from tesla finance.
Should I update the tracker? Or wait until I get the official notification? Don’t want to skew the data

History has shown that Troy's work is wayyyyy better than whatever estimates Tesla is putting on their websites or on buyers' account screens. As ObiWan said to Luke early in Episode IV, trust the Troy.

For the other non-res/non-owners waiting for P3D+....don’t loose faith. I got my VIN through Tesla Finance and was finally contacted by my IDA today!! By end of September is looking more likely!!

I just wanted to remind folks of a mistake I was making with the spread sheets that might be very obvious to long timers.

If you trying to figure out what is actually shipping. The first thing you should filter by is by "Status" and Filter OUT "Configured and Blank".
You get a fairly different picture of what's really being delivered (or targeted for delivery). Without doing that it's fairly useless unless you are just curious of what people want or are NOT getting (yet). About 25% of the entries are "Configured" only.

Clearly Midnight Silver is very popular shipping color which I have not seen much talk about.

The nice charts on the "Survey" tab I believe are based on "All Entries" so it can be very misleading. It's a combination or what people WANT and GOT vs what people GOT (are will be getting soon). It would be cool if there was a button on the Survey page to remove "Status == Configured or Blank". That way you'd have a birds eye view of what folks are getting.

As stated in several threads "White Seats" helps a lot on any config.
Obsidian black is pretty rare.
RWD is almost a sure thing (with lot of other various combinations).

There have been plenty of 19" wheels but Aero wins by a wide margin and even on the "High End" configurations.

One other thing I did is set the Configuration Date to greater than something more recent like Aug 1st or July First (to see how more recent configuration folks are doing, like me). The stats are fairly small once you do that. Clearly Midnight Black and Aero are moving better.

Thanks for the folks that put these together and folks entering their experience.

Wow...I configured on 8/29 (red, RWD, Aeros, no EAP) and got an email yesterday (9/5) that "it has finished production" and we're ready to start finalizing on some of my details to prepare for delivery.

I'm in Spokane, about 270 miles from the nearest delivery center near Seattle (Bellevue 20th street), so I'm talking with a "Home Delivery Specialist" who's gonna prep me on what to expect.

Everything is awesome, except that for some reason he wasn't able to see in my account that I'm opting for a trade in. I let him know of the error, he sees the trade in and they offer me $750 for my '02 Lexus IS300 w/ 265k miles. No thanks.

Today, he submits paperwork so I can receive a contract and obtain funding for the 3. I check my Tesla account and I have a VIN (5YJ3E1EA6JF053312), but the account shows a September 9th delivery appointment at the Bellevue Tesla delivery center.

Notified the rep and am waiting to hear more. Basically, it's super awesome that I have a car so quickly, but obviously a few quirks to work through.

No VIN yet but got a delivery date by email today. Delivery is set for 9/25/18 (in Littleton, Colorado)

M3 LR AWD, Blue/White Interior, 19" wheels, EAP

reserved 6/18/18
Configured 7/23/18 (when white interior was available)

I know it only takes about a week to ship cars to Colorado so I expect a VIN sometime next week.

Man reading this makes me salty.. I keep getting passed up. Reserved 11/2016, ordered 6/27/18 AWD, Blue, Black, aeros, no ap, Colorado Springs.

I reserved 17 months before DaveCO, and ordered weeks before him, but has a few more pricey options so Tesla build his car first? cool cool cool cool.........

I don't think it's price. I have friend that started from scratch 3 weeks ago and got his car 2 weeks ago. Because his configuration is surplus (RWD) right now.

White Seats, RWD or Performance will get a car quicker regardless of pricey options or how long you've been in the queue.

@Troy Any way to quickly create a chart based on scheduled delivery date rather than VIN? VIN seems to not be a good indication these days since you may get it early or only a day before delivery, but a delivery date you seem to get before the car even gets near the delivery center?

Agreed.. with what's going on in the last 24 hours, VIN assignment lost its relevance as a good predictive indicator.. same thing goes for waiting for 120 days for VIN etc.. there shouldn't be any one waiting for VIN/delivery more than 60 - 80 days at this point except that could be few outliers out there for some reason. We should remove all the old entries with no VIN/delivery date older than 80 days max at this point to get a clean view. just my 2 cents.
