Model 3 P delivery report and first impressions - Rocklin, CA

They also say they will only do rear glass up to factory tint, because full coverage may cause glass to crack.
I have Suntek ceramic installed in the rear in two pieces. I think my installer said they don't come in a single long piece so it had to be done in two. Either that or he just doesn't carry it so this was just an excuse. Haven't had an issue with the rear in excess of 100F weather but I've already cracked my windshield that has Suntek installed due a rock that hit under the wiper and now it has spread a couple of feet. On top of that, another rock hit the middle of the windshield this time and there is a small crack there.

I'm hoping that once I replace it, it may reduce the noise as my understand is they've changed the shape a bit to help with wind noise.

Thank you for the Rocklin report, glad to hear they have begun delivering M3P in the area. I had a good experience there with my MS and cannot wait to pick up our M3P (DBM with black interior), anticipating August delivery.

...going to Appearance Solutions too.

Also planning to take our M3P to Mike at Appearance Solutions. Would be interested to hear all that you have done/learned this time around. I was planning to have Xpel/Tinting on the exterior. I also have a Kenriko kit waiting at home (I don't think I will be a fan of the piano black finish), but wasn't sure if Mike had suggestions for interior protection/finish.

Will ask about interior protection options too since we have 3 small kids.

For exterior, planning on powdercoating the wheels sonic carbon (or matte black?), and chrome delete. I really like how Franz customized his own car.

Cool. Yes, going to Appearance Solutions too after Tesla repairs the two defects. I spoke to Mike there and he said spoiler and badge best go OVER the Xpel wrap.
Sounds lazy to me. My detailer removed the badge and bought new ones to replace after the PPF was installed. I went over to Appearance Solutions to get a quote and was turned off by puffing up his own company and badmouthing the competition. I went with the competitor.

Sorry, to clarify, the spoiler and badge aren't available yet. They're still in production and will be sent to the service center at some point in the near future. Mike just said to ask Tesla not to install them since it's better to put them on top of the wrap.

Yeah, lots of good detailers in Sacramento. Going with Appearance Solutions just cause they did my last 4 cars and I'm happy with the work even ~4 years later.

Then I'd like to clarify myself. Not saying they don't do good work but since I never got any work done from them, I can't say otherwise. Are you going to put the gaudy ALL WHEEL DRIVE badge on or perhaps shorten it or leave it off completely?

I have two. I asked Mike on Wednesday and he said that the interior is fine for the most part due to the stain resistant seats. He suggested maybe treating the carpet, but all-weather mats would work just as well. Weather Tech hasn't come out with Model 3 specific mats yet, and other third-parties are backordered. I figure I'll just be diligent for now and get the Weather Tech or Tesla ones (same thing) when they are released.

Background and Timeline:

Existing owner, 2013 Model S P85 (sold), 2014 Model S P85D, 2016 Model X 90D
Also, plenty of experience with Model 3 already as sister and brother-in-law have a VIN 5000's 2018 Model 3 LR RWD and I exercise my rights as eldest sibling and Tesla superfan to drive it whenever I want ;)
3/31/2016 line waiter with reservation made at 2:30pm PST (didn't realize there would be so many people so I just showed up at 10am and had to wait 4 hours)
First Production invite 12/16/2017
AWD/P invite and order confirmed 6/27/2018 (didn't technically get an invite, just found out on the forums)
Edit button disappeared 7/21/2018 and applied for Tesla arranged loan
Loan approved and reconfirmation of info online 7/22/2018
Phone call to schedule delivery 7/23/2018
Delivery today 7/26/2018

Delivery Experience:

Online payment only became available approximately 3.5 hours prior to scheduled delivery
Arrived at store a few minutes early and was greeted promptly and handed off to delivery specialist
Loan documents signed within 5 minutes
Contract computer still acting up and spitting out contracts with lots of blanks, but they seem to be making due
Orientation of the Model 3 for my wife in the showroom car, approximately 20 minutes
Our Model 3 was still being detailed but was brought out quickly and then delivery specialist finished my wife's orientation in the actual car, approximately 10 more minutes
We did a thorough inspection and found a few minor defects
Left the lot just over an hour after arriving
All the staff were super friendly, delivery specialist was honest and upfront about the timeline and the fact that the car wasn't ready right when we arrived and that their contract system was acting up
The store was very busy; multiple other people taking delivery at same time and a ton of foot traffic with lots of people crowding around the showroom cars
Our 3 was apparently the first one with white interior and the first P variant they've delivered

Cosmetic Condition:

Overall good, but the detailing was clearly rushed and incomplete. QC is lacking. Multiple smudges (dirt, left over adhesive, etc.,) here and there on interior and exterior, but nothing requiring more than a little saliva to rub away
Panel alignment is excellent; nothing catches the eye (a big difference from our VIN 5000's car which had noticeable panel gaps, sunken hood, protruding headlight, seal issues, etc.,)
One small half inch by quarter inch paint defect on the corner of one of the front quarter panels along the wheel well, looks like an area that just wasn't painted; was pretty obvious so I'm surprised they didn't notice it
Significant curb rash on one of the wheels
Performance pedals came pre-installed
Spoiler and Dual Motor badge not available, listed on the "due bill", no ETA, they'll call me when those items arrive, and schedule mobile service for install
Apparent scratches on the touch screen, but then my wise wife said it's just the screen protector so we pulled it off and screen was perfect underneath

Initial Impressions:

This is definitely a Performance Tesla with a capital P, right up there with all the Model S and Model X P variants
0-60mph acceleration is not that much different than my P85D Ludicrous
If the P85D Ludicrous is an instant fatal blow to the head, the 3P is a fatal blow to the head where you don't die instantly, but you die a moment or two later ;)
Cabin and road noise is excellent, similar to our S and X
Haven't pushed the suspension yet, but driving home it felt similar to our S and X (in terms of absorbing bumps)
Sound system... spectacular. If the S sound system is an 7/10 and the X sound system is a 10/10, I'd say the 3 sound system is 9.5/10, beat by the X only because the X subwoofer is ever so slightly deeper and cleaner
White seats are super comfortable, definitely softer than anything we've had before
Center console is the same glossy black fingerprint magnet so I went home and immediately put on the white Kenriko wrap (pic below)

That's it for now. Gonna play with the car a week then bring it back for service to repair the paint defect and curb rash, then off to detailer for Xpel wrap and tint. Then spoiler and badge install at some point in the future.

congratulations- thank you for the timeline too!!

The Kenriko kit was easy. Took me about an hour, mostly for the cupholder piece which is the hardest. Just watch the video before trying. The material is very stretchy and accommodating. Basically lay down, smooth out, lift up (if any bubbles or wrinkles), and repeat. Over and over. The hardest part is trimming the excess around the cupholders. I messed up a little (razor blade slipped a few times and cut too far; the material is very easy to cut), but not really noticeable.

I've got the same kit and the same color combo, waiting to put it in! Nice job

Did you like the wood trim in the black interior or the white in the dash. Are there any sun glare issues with the white in the dash?

No glare. It’s matte finish. I like it better than the open pore wood in the black interior car.

Does the M3P *feel* faster at high speeds than the P85D? If you are already doing 75mph and you stomp it do you notice a difference?

Haven’t done anymore highway driving since yesterday. Kinda paranoid about getting rock chips before I get the front wrapped. ;)
