Model 3 P, LR, SR+ time compare on 400km

3_Schirme.jpgThree guys from the German tesla rental company took the three available Model 3 types P, LR, SR+ and drove in parallel 400km with constant speed of 130km/h and one charging stop on German autobahn, to find out which time each car need for that distance. There was only a time difference of 10min between LR and SR+ on this 4h ride.!!

This proved that more essential than big battery is the possibility of fast charging. The actual battery trend “I want to have the biggest one” will pass away. For 90% of the people the Model 3 SR+ is the right size of battery.

a rather strange test, as the criteria stipulated a charge at 230km. Had there been another charging stop available later on, then the LR and P models would have gone longer with the initial charge and needed a far shorter top up (and a higher charge speed one) to reach the target.

Then factor in the possibility of a Model S Long range, which should comfortably do this journey without a charge. - so bigger battery does win, its just that for this specific case the test criteria were only marginally beneficial to the M3 LR/P.

Depending on the distance to charching position SR+ or LR as advantages, thats true. A later stop e.g. at 300km would result in higher load current for the M3LR but the amount of energy to load would be the same , just do it later. So the difference might be 15min instead of 10min. This is still not a big disadvantage compared to the price difference.
The test was with constant speed of 130km/h on german autobahn and the goal was to have 70km left over at the end. This distance is not possible for M3LR without charging stop. Of corse the distances were selected in in advantage for SR+. There might be lot of more disadvantages drives in the livetime of a M3SR+ but it show, that the SR+ is also possible for long distnace ride.
