I'm surprised there are no aftermarket aero covers yet. Might be an interesting market for 3rd party accessory makers.

Aero wheels = more range because of less drag... faster.
Makes sense for a performance design.

Indeed this looks like an aero cover.

I think it is quite possible that this 19" aero wheel will come to US in 2019. For 2018, Tesla already sold enough P3D- that they can use its EPA rating for P3D+ too and forcing the performance option on everyone. Since they want the bigger brake to be standard and 18" wheel doesn't fit, having a 19" areo is one way to get acceptable EPA rating for 2019 model.

New twin turbines on the MS have lug covers but on closer inspection these look like one piece so you are probably right.
