I'm ready to buy TODAY. Maybe that will motivate them some. I hope so.

Just ask, and if you are willing to be patient I bet you can get one. If they aren’t available now they may be later. Just make your preferences known, loud and clear, don’t get talked into something you don’t want, and then wait...

Tesla should want to make as much money off you as possible.

No matter what they may tell you, the AWD is no longer “exactly the same” car as the P3D, to our knowledge. The P3D still has the 980 rear drive unit last we checked, and the AWD has the 990 rear drive unit. This was not the case in 2018 (they were identical vehicles then).

It is a super deal to get the Performance and Track Mode for $2k more. Even if you don’t use it, you’ll likely get a lot of the cost delta back in resale.

I agree on the value. IMO ... they should unlock the extra performance for all existing owners for $2k. But I know that's another (very long and well discussed) thread.

It doesn't hurt to ask. They may know of where an inventory car is too.

So I test drove an M3P and P100D with the family finally yesterday in Chicago. Cost not being an issue, they all hands down to my surprise liked the 3 over the S. Kids said it was way more comfortable in the back and getting in/out was easier. The 8 year old said.."dad I can see outside better, so I like it more". Even though I hit Ludicrous+ once and they all screamed for their mommies, I don't see not something I would do often. Just like the Launch Control on my GT-R was fun the first 10 times then it just didn't matter, impractical to get staged on a track as well.
I had test driven an M3 when it first came out and the fact that I could not get P3D with smaller than 20" frustrated me, as I already deal with my GT-R having a second set of wheels & blizzaks. Getting too old to keep swapping tires.

To my surprise the Tesla rep said you can absolutely have a P3D with 18' or 19" wheels and don't have to deal with a 2nd set of tires. Woah! Total deal maker!!!

I am placing on order and I am good with the 2K to get performance add on s/w. The question I am contemplating now are:

- 18" or 19" - difference between efficiency for long trips (do the aero covers make that much of a difference?) I do drive close to ~270 miles 1-way to see my ailing folks and would like to do it without stopping. Even though there is 1 SC on the way , rather hit it on the way back. How much of difference in handling 18 vs 19? I do hit the track 1-2/year, 1-2 HPDEs and lots of back country roads with spirited driving. Would like to do it in the P3D sometimes. Better to get 19" as a compromise or stick to 18"?

- What tires come on the 18" vs 19"? considering for winter/snow driving. Even though 18"+snow tires is best combo, I have lots of experience with 19" all-seasons on snow and i am comfortable with that, provided the 19" stock tires aren't rated poorly for snow, in which case i'd rather pay the 6K and get 20"s and dedicated or go to 18"s. As I hate to buy the car and 2 months later have to swap out tires in Nov/Dec.

For other track drivers out there - how much larger are the rotors on the 20" which is designed for track? How much quicker will brake fade start to happen without the extra metal on stock breaks? Is the limiting factor cooling or weight of the car. As a GT-R owner I know way too much about a heavy car that goes through a set of stock rotors in 1 weekend. Maybe better of looking at a set of after market rotors and pads?

Sorry for my long winded and most likely repeat questions. I am literally on the ordering page and want to make a decision by tonight. I started using the search and reading posts here, but because of all the subtle changes over the years to the M3, the information is too much and too different to decipher quickly enough. Gracious!

Since cost is not an issue get the performance upgrade package since you’re doing track days and will want the bigger brakes to start with. You can then buy 18” or 19” t sportline wheels that clear the calipers and sell the 20s that came with the car.

Tesla Model 3 19

You’ll use all seasons for hpdes?

Aero wheels are about 3% more efficient but you’ll be pushing it to go 270 miles regardless depending on speed and weather. I’d plan a short 10 min supercharger stop and not worry about what wheels you get. Also keep in mind tires have a big impact on range too both with width and tread design and compound.

You’re not going to be able to do this regardless of the efficiency of the tires - in summer, at freeway speeds, plan on about 250 miles (max) to a charge.

Generally to minimize travel time you want to travel fast and hit a Supercharger for 10 or 20 minutes which for a trip of that length should be no issue.

It’s also worth noting you generally don’t want to leave a car sitting at a low state of charge (like below 30%) for long, so you will want to charge at your parents most likely at 240V if the car is outside in Wisconsin.

In winter in Wisconsin you should plan on 150 miles for a full discharge (this is totally dependent on conditions and temperatures of course). Ideally that Supercharger is mid way between you and your destination. I would be concerned if you had to drive more than ~170 miles to get to it in winter.

Perhaps someone from the frozen north can comment on true range in inclement winter weather for a single drive, and “safe” range?

I’ll let others address your winter tire questions.

The 18” MXM4s are a little more efficient than the Continentals, but not too much. The Aeros buy you something like 3% at freeway speeds but it does depend on your speed.

Thanks for all the responses! Really appreciated. Placed the order earlier this week. M3 AWD with Performance Pkg (includes 0-60 in 3.2sec & track mode) and 19" wheels. Stuck with the smaller brakes on account that getting RBs 2-piece will be a much better upgrade, both for unsprung mass and pad options. He's brakes are great on GT-Rs, so that was a no brainer. Can get aftermarket spoiler and pedals.
For others - these type of cars P3D- (whatever you want to call it) do not show up in inventory search or customization. You have to ask a rep to send you the VIN link, only they can see them.
The $300 add on garage door opener is slap in the face, not the cost, but the fact that I have to order it after I take delivery with VIN # on my account and then wait and go back down for install. Ugh!
Looking forward to take delivery.

Congrats! Just took delivery of my P3D- car (w 18s) as well.
Definitely do a very thorough look through of the car, even if the Delivery "Specialist" is trying to rush you or otherwise being a bit of a dweeb. I found some things, all relatively minor, wrong with the car. Nothing that hampers driving ... mainly fit and finish. I bring that up because it is an inventory car vs a custom order. Maybe it doesn't matter, but an inventory car probably has been shown to a few folks, etc. Mine only had 40 miles on it.
I'm with you on the $300 garage door opener for the same reasons. Then again, I didn't also realize fully that it didn't come with a NEMA 14-50, so I ordered that today. Did a SuC session, and some trickle charging, and all will be right and well in a few days.
The tech in this car is otherworldly. So is that 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Such fun!

Been lurking here for a while and know this has been covered a few times, but I just chatted with a sales advisor today and they were telling me that the only way to get this configuration anymore is from existing inventory only. They won't spec a new build this way. Thoughts?

Yes this is well known and how it has been
They will likely build more ; you just cannot order one

That was my experience. It may change later, of course. I got in touch with someone who searched the existing inventory. I ended up with the last P3D- in red in the US, I was told. Very happy with it so far.

The Tesla person who searched the inventory at the time (almost a month ago) said there were several Black P3D- available. I didn't ask for full details but it lead me to believe that if you want that config, then Black is your best best with cars in inventory.

I put $100 down on a red P3D- with aero wheels in Kansas City today. Flying out on Thursday to pick it up. I am so glad that I stumbled across the stealth before my AWD showed up, but I do have to eat the orginal $100 deposit, and $500 in price increase since I ordered on October 15.

Welcome aboard. If your upcoming experience is like many here, including mine, you just bought the most fun thing you’ll ever own. :)
And mine is AWD non P.

Had mine over a year now, and it feels like day one every day.
enjoy. !!
