Model 3 Performance VIN Discrepancy

I am scheduled to take delivery of Model 3 Performance on Thursday. I have a VIN that indicates standard dual motor but not performance dual motor based on the VIN tools I have found. Could someone who bought a Model 3 Performance version confirm the VIN number?

No mystery. Perf and AWD have the same B digit including mine. Also in 55xxx range. Your car Black by chance?

I guess my question is are there any MP3 VINS with '4' as eighth digit to designate them as a dual motor performance (existing owners please feel free to comment)? Or is '4' reserved for Model S/X? My concern is would insurance treat this as a 20k+ cheaper car as far as replacement cost and resale value if this looks just like a standard dual motor.

So they Share the 'B' in the 8th digit with AWD. This is because they share the same drivetrain. They only have to differentiate if the drivetrains are inherently different. Now they may have differentiated these in the past but they are under no obligation to do so.

With regard to your insurance question. Your insurance HAS to cover the value of your car as long as you answered all of their questions correctly. (Im not saying they wont fight you on it) If they undervalued your car at time of calculation for your premium that is on them. Now if enough people file claims on P3D's they will adjust the numbers in one of 2 ways. They will make you tell them which version of AWD you are insuring and have higher premiums for performance. Or they will raise the premiums for all AWD models. The first is better for AWD as they get the rates they should. the second is better for the P3D owners as their extra payouts are covered by all AWD models.

I just got the email and call. I noticed the "B" in the 8th position, and I emailed my rep to ask what I was missing. Glad to see I'm not alone here. I've waited so long to get to this point, and I don't want to have to wait any longer!

That is extremely helpful and somewhat comforting, but I backtracked into this issue when my wife noticed I’d been shorted the carvon fiber spoiler. So, now that I have the spoilerless model 3 with the ambiguous VIN, how do I confirm that I have the performance model sans the spoiler vs the standard dual moter plus fancy pedels and wheels?

I see nothing in or on the car anywhere that says performance.

Press on the T on the screen. There should be a red line underneath the Dual Motor. That indicates performance. If it doesn’t have the red underline, talk to the delivery specialist. Someone else on here was missing it and it was a matter of updating the firmware.

Perfect, thank you and I indeed have the red line. Also Tesla just called me to see how I was liking my new car and they gave the same explanation.

Also the service center is supposed to be calling me when they get the spoiler and badging in. Traffic made me about 35 minutes later to my appointment, so I can overlook them failing to tell me at my appointment as I likely ran them short on time.

Thanks for the the information I have the same issue. One other thing that is bothering me is the window sticker which was in the trunk at delivery (took delivery yesterday). The sticker Title is "TESLA Model 3 Long Range AWD" and under as configured there is nothing that indicates Performance it states "Long Range Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive $19,000". This makes me think either 1. I've been had, or 2. There is only a software update for performance. None of the "cherry picking motors" as I was told by sales. I did check and I have the red line under the "Dual Motor". I just wish someone at Tesla knew the truth. I've pinged Tesla and await a reply.

Performance without the upgrades package here. Window sticker shows "Model 3 Long Range AWD" at the top and the breakdown (configuration) shows:

Model 3: $35,000
Performance Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive: $29,000

I did mention the AWD and Performance cars not having a VIN distinction to my insurance company, making sure they understood that there was (at the time I ordered) a $15k difference in price across the 3 configurations/trims that VIN could represent. I was told not to worry about it so long as I could prove which version it was in the event of a claim.

We already know that the Model 3 Performance and AWD share the same hardware configuration. What we have been told is that the Performance model gets motors with a longer burn in and binned to give them the best inverters. The Monroney sticker screw-ups offer at least circumstantial evidence that Tesla may be "promoting" existing AWD configurations to be AWD Performance. That or this is a mega screw up in the design of the Monroney sticker for the P3D- configuration.

Same situation here. VIN shows B as 8th digit. My opinion is that there is unlocked capacity in all models, but and I was initially going to get the AWD. If the AWD is a “corked” performance model, Tesla has to be making a bundle on the performance model. I hope the bin sorting story is credible. Isn’t the actual acceleration essentially software mapping the amount of current the motors get and when, and among other things taking traction into account ?

Sorting by VIN, it's pretty random when they do 'make' a performance versus a non; sometimes it's quite spaced out, like mine, and other times there are a handful in a row.

That being said, where does Tesla actually say it's anything physical versus just software? I've only read performance is a higher standard online and not in any of the Tesla literature - they just say the performance is faster, not why. I didn't really do my homework on the background.

There was someone the other day that was inspecting his AWD and found 2 stickers for their AWD. One said performance, the other did not. Same VIN on both documents. The Rep took the one that said performance away saying it was a mistake.

I am due to get mine delivered to me on Saturday night. I am ordering a 3D performance without the performance package. My worry is the same as everyone else who don't know if it's actually a performance version or the regular AWD. I have heard of some folks saying the performance without the performance package doesn't have a red underline, which then makes it almost impossible to tell from the AWD standard. Then I've heard that performance without the performance package has the red underline.

So I don't know what to believe anymore. So if anyone who has the performance without the performance package can chime in, that would be awesome.
