I’m purchasing a Model 3 this year but torn on which one to get. I want a long range but new is outside my price range. I can afford the SR+ but 250 mi range doesn’t seem to be enough for winter and I really want to maximize the amount of range I can buy.
Question: Should I purchase a brand new SR+ or a used long range (ideally with less than 20k miles so I can have a couple years of warranty left). I’ve been looking and occasionally see fairly priced ones. I’m completely willing to travel and have a nice road trip home. The brand new LR is above my max so won’t consider it.
My Location: Massachusetts, USA
Average Daily Commute for work: 40 miles but visit family occasionally that can be a few hundred miles away and enjoy a nice road trip
My concern: Range loss in the winter with the SR+
Other points: I can charge at work but there are only 4 chargers. I could probably nab 1 but I don’t want to factor this in too much. I’m having a NEMA 14-50 installed for home charging. ALSO, I do get 4k reimbursement through for work purchasing a brand new EV vehicle but after taxes we’re talking 2,500.
Am I overthinking? I feel like with the Y coming out and that the Model 3 being out for a few years (however, I only want 2018 or greater), I can get a good deal on a used M3 LR (most likely a private purchase). Or should I just buy a SR+ brand new, charge to 90% and most likely be fine for a majority of my driving?
Love reading these forums and appreciate any and all advice
