Last year we began a comprehensive CFD study to develop maximum downforce time attack aerodynamics for our Model 3 race program. Due to the extensive damage of last year’s Pikes Peak car we decided to cut off the front end, built a jig, and used it to shape the front cowl in house. The origins of UP has involved us making all of our carbon parts in-house. These days we use the world’s top prepreg carbon specialists but for this project on some items, we returned to our roots doing the full process beginning to end at our shop. This vacuum-infused carbon fiber cowl is paired with the rest of our racing aero kit that utilizes highly controlled machined tooling and autoclave-made prepreg carbon parts. A mix of our old school history (here) and of our current process with autoclave-made parts (not shown).
