I know better than to deal with short-infested investor sites, but...

Tesla’s Initial Model 3 Reservations Seen Topping 100,000

The only thing that baffled me was this statement:

[UBS analyst Colin] Langan estimates that the Model 3’s 10-year cost of ownership will be about $21,000 more than that of a comparable internal-combustion vehicle.

I guess we need to define "comparable". What's he comparing it to? Chevy Malibu? BMW 3-series?

I get the sense it's the former and not the latter.

...and maybe I shouldn't even give this type of stuff the time of day...

My guess is his thinking within 5 years, the whole battery pack or even more will need to be replaced at owners' cost, twice, in order to get this result.

...and yet, Tesla's warranty cost for battery replacement hasn't been a material issue...

The only way that the Model 3’s 10-year cost of ownership will be about $21,000 more than that of a comparable internal-combustion vehicle is when you leave a wallet with $30,000 in it on your car when you drive off and you lose the wallet.
That's a huge wallet. 30k cash is pretty darn thick.

George Costanza would agree with you.
