Random question here, but is it possible for Tesla to tint your windows during a cars production prior to taking delivery? I ordered 10/06 SR+, 18”, no Fsd, white/black, no VIN yet and no texts on delivery status/date. Cali law states 70% for front side windows, so wanted to know if the factory takes any requests for tinting if I were to ask. I’m a bit nervous of tinting at a third party auto shop and they don’t take the right steps of keeping water/soap out during the install process.

i'm with you on this. AFAIK they don't come with the front plate mounted. the dealerships usually do it when they prep the car or after they receive it from the truck. i'm going to try to call my SA or someone in buena park to see if they can put a note not to do it to mine when they get it - if they do. i've seen aftermarket mount that clips on to something so no holes. i think i saw it on a youtube video or forum. can't remember where. but i've driven without a front plate for over a decade and had no issues (knock on wood). you may have a higher chance with trouble when at the airport without a front plate.

Giving them a call once I get a VIN lol. For once, I want to have a car that don't come with front plates!

I googled some front plate mounts and theres some makes that mount to the lower grill and doesn't drill into the bumper. I would get one in case I get a ticket. *Fingers crossed.

I just confirmed with my SA that the front plate is not drilled into the bumper but rather uses double sided tape. I told him I didn't want mine mounted and he said unless they mount it at the factory, it just comes in the trunk. I said just throw mine in the trash lol

LOL I would say the same! But at least it's taped if it gets mounted. Drilling into the bumper is a whole another issue. :/

I'm starting to feel like my name is on the 'do-not-pick-up-list' with Tesla.

My SA is really unresponsive and my delivery center has given me conflicting information to what themselves told me days ago.
Delivery C - has no info on when my car will go into production and they also haven't hear of such a thing as getting a text before a VIN is assigned. (which we know is not true, many has reported it on this forum)
All in all, still saying week of Dec 2nd at the earliest for deliveries.
Anyone has gotten information today from Southern Cali?

Hang in there! I already gave up trying to reach out to my SA. I’m sure it’s right around the corner. But I haven’t received anything since the text.

Be patient my friend, once you get that vin in source code, the process & waiting is lightning fast. That's when Tesla will call you a lot to make sure you paper work is done & will want to know if you can get the car immediately cause they don't won't a mad house people waiting in the holding area lobby.

Hoping that holds true for all the Stealth orders that already have VINs in source code. Nothing yet more for me, but I haven't checked in the last ten minutes. :D

I might be wrong but I don’t think Tesla offers window tinting at all.

i saw a truck full of model 3 traveling on the 210 fwy eastbound in upland area. it might be catching the 15 south to san diego but i doubt since they could've used 5 south. it might be headed east, maybe arizona or texas? i don't think there are any delivery centers in california east of the direction it's traveling. i was headed west so i couldn't get a close look.

i was able to get a hold of my SA in buena park. i had a handful of questions and he was able to answer them. take my info with a grain of salt, a bag of salt. just sharing.

  • he believes i would get my vin or have my delivery date first week of december
  • the amount due during delivery cannot be paid with credit card. was hoping to get the points. they accept personal check or ach transfer. if ach transfer, it may take up to 48 hours and they would like that to clear before delivery date. personal check is fine at the time of pick up. there was another payment method, i can't remember though.
  • many have said they were given 3 days to pick up the car or they will be rematched to another vin. he informed me that it's 7 days.
  • i was given a different amount due while talking with a delivery guy during the new owners workshop compared to what i see online. he confirms that the amount on my account online is the more accurate one.
  • if you were pre-approved by their bank for finance, like US Bank, they have the pre-approval for up to 60 days, not the usual 30 days.

  • their prep team varies with front mounted plates. some of them do it, some don't. but california law blah blah blah, dmv blah blah blah... so they have to do it. he says he will put a note on my account about not doing it but he can't guarantee that the prep team will see it. they use 3M adhesive. it might be possible to have them remove it during delivery... might.

i hope the info given to me has some accuracy to it. another day gone, another day closer i guess.

i'm almost sure that you can't get any modifications done prior to taking delivery because technically, even if you ordered it and got the vin, it's not yours. no paperwork has been signed.

our house was built last year and we bought it. during construction, i wanted them to run cat6 network cable before they put the drywall up. i was willing to pay for labor and parts. even though all we were waiting for is the house to finish and sign paperwork, we couldn't. we didn't own the house at that point and we can easily back out for any reason. then they'll be stuck with a house not to spec with all the other house in their "inventory". same with cars. they have to sell them to spec to what they are offering to everyone. after market mods can be done after the paperwork is signed and is officially yours whether from tesla or other company.

does your current car have tint? do you like it? if so, just take it there. i don't believe these windows are any different from other cars, are they? i'm just going to take mine to the one that did my other 2 cars. or browse the forum and see if it needs a special tint or recommendations to a local shop.

I can't imagine the side windows that much different compared to other cars. I heard stories where shops that don't do a proper job on the windshield of the M3 can cause problems with the electronics, the middle screen in particular. The rear glass might be a little difficult because of the tight space towards the back, so a "pro" tint shop would also have proper absorbing towels at the bottom glass so liquid doesn't seep in.

Unfortunately I don’t even have a car or event owned one haha, this Tesla is basically my first big car purchase. Thanks for the feedback though , ya I should find a forum here that recommends the best tint shop in the Bay Area! If anyone knows, let me know thanks!

I kind of question the personnel check, cause it’s usually something that businesses esp car companies hesitate to accept, as it doesn’t guarantee you have the money readily available versus a cashiers check....but if others on this forum have used a personnel check then please chime in. Appreciate ur info man, really informative, especially the credit card part.

EFT payments. They are much easier and instantaneous.

I ordered my M3P on 10/9. I was going to wait because my current lease doesn't end until 12/7 but my SA told me to put the order in right away because he thought it might take longer than the 2-3 week lead time stated on the website. He also said he could "juggle some orders around" or something to that effect so if it came in early I wouldn't be paying for two cars for very long. Good thing I listed to him.

Like others on this forum I also received a text message on 11/4 that said "Get priority matching to a vehicle for faster delivery by completing your profile...". However, I completed my profile the day after I ordered the car. The only thing that wasn't complete was the financing, because my SA told me to hold off on that section until I was closer to the delivery date. I contacted him when I received the text and he told me to go ahead and complete that section and so I did. Now on my account page under "Next Steps" it says "We are drafting up your contract and will contact you when you can make your final payment."

While on the site 5 days ago I noticed the chat button so I figured what the heck. After a quick chat I received a call from a NV phone number like 5 minutes later. The lady told me they were currently 5-7 weeks out and since I was at around 6 weeks she told me I should be receiving a VIN "any day now" and that since I'm taking delivery in Burbank it should be very quick once the VIN is assigned, like a few days.

I'll be sure to make a post as soon as I hear something new...
