Model 3 Window Tinting - GTA

Evelyn does good work but $1400 is $1000 too expensive for what a tint job for our cars goes for at most other shops. He has exclusive rights to a specific tint he uses which he charges an insane markup for but only offers marginal differences in heat rejection.

Funny you mention Inception. I was originally going to use them for ppf/ceramic and tint. However, I found their ppf prices to be too high, around 4k for ppf/ceramic combo (just the front of the car and rocker panels). I decided to use Jay at Westside Pro for the ppf and ceramic - highly recommended by the way.

I dropped by Inception to update my appointment to window tint only. I had nothing to hide as to why I was only getting tint now and thought they would appreciate some competitive intelligence that I found another certified Xpel installer for much less. Well I get a phone call shortly after leaving that they were canceling my window tint appointment because they 'didn't think they would do as good of a job as I wanted'. I thought that was odd as I had stopped in specifically when a model 3 was being done and agreed to their workmanship. I guess they were jealous of losing the ppf and ceramic business. These guys run their shop like a bunch of amateurs. I am happy they cancelled so I could get my work done elsewhere.

They think because they are registered as a Tesla destination for charging that will get them business but eventually their reputation will catch up to them.

Call Jay at Westside. He is in Oakville on Speers. He does Xpel Prime tint and others. 416-951-1749.

There was another tint thread previously where me and a few people went through Inception for tints and the installation was not very good. Not sure if they’ve improved since then

Yikes! That's not a good look on their part. I know a couple folks who got the tint and in some cases ppf/ceramic done from them right when the LR RWDs were getting delivered initially last year and they seemed happy. Maybe they just got sloppy over time and were using their reputation as cover for it. I had also not gone with them because of the higher price. But they charged the same $400 for the tint that I ended up getting from Smart Detail at the time.

Sorry to hear about that.

Following. I still am looking for a shop that can tint the Model 3.

Evelyn is way too out too lunch on pricing
Audio Heaven is great but they don't do the rear window
Inception is too far (Oakville)

Are there any reputable and experienced with Tesla shops in the North, Central and/or East GTA?

finding generally, shops are realizing Tesla owners are willing to drop crazy money on their cars when they take delivery and are adjusting prices to reflect the 'tesla tax' lol

between PPF, Ceramic coating, winter wheels and tires and a ton of aftermarket goodies from floor mats, to dash wrap to bunch of other stuff the car should have came with anyway....people are easily dropping like $10-$15k in mods lol

You lucked out. I was pretty unhappy with the job they did at Inception. I have like 7 or 8 marks (divets) in the film from when they brushed out the water/liquid. On my roof I also have a sizeable bubble.. it's just not worth the hour drive to Oakville to get it fixed. I would definitely find another shop.

Now that the weather if (hopefully) getting nicer, I want to get the windows tinted on my Model 3. Any good quality shops in the North or East GTA that has experience on Model 3's? Thanks

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience as well with tinting in the GTA area.

First things first, this is my first after market tint job ever as my previous vehicles had factory tint.

Coming from factory tint, it would be nice to be told up front that there is no such thing as perfect tint as that is not common sense to anyone who’s only had factory tint on their vehicle. Tell your customers that it can be normal to have dust or minor scratches, especially when doing tints covering larger areas.

Therefore, I took my vehicle to Inception to get my PPF and Ceramic done.

Unfortunately, I had it done right before the winter hit so therefore, my PPF did not cure and certain parts had to be redone come spring time. Thankfully, Inception took care of redoing the PPF where it was bubbling and peeling.

Communication and customer care at inception can be spotty, as I was setup to do a tint also in December, but then later was told that it won’t cure properly through winter. Once again, seems unorganized to not inform the person taking appointments that tints shouldn’t be done in the wintertime due to curing sensitivity.

When I finally had my tint done this spring, I picked up the vehicle when no one was around as everyone had to leave before 6pm. Therefore, when I did my walk around, my heart sank as there was imperfections around the edges of the tint and it was noticeable.

If you were proud of your work, wouldn’t you do one more inspection to see how it would look to a customer before you hand over their vehicle? Especially if there are obvious imperfections around the edges that are visible from outside the vehicle in daylight?? Based on all my observations, I think they have more work than they can handle and therefore, quality is compromised in the end.

I have to say, knowing what I know now, even if I have to drive 45 min to Markham or wherever quality resides, it is worth it so that you don’t have to keep going back to get deficiencies fixed.

I know travelling far out and then having to leave your car behind while your friend or relative comes and gets you and then drops you off is a hassle, the up front hassle is totally worth it to minimize the chance of going back to fix potentially quality issues.

Don’t let presence of fancy cars and association with Ontario Tesla club association fool you into thinking you are getting quality. Quality is in the obvious details combined with clear communications to manage expectations of time required to do your vehicle and what variance to expect.

Hope my story helps.

Hey,

I found this thread to be useful while I was trying to make a decision on where to get mine done... So thought I'd add a recent post for anyone in the area.

I used Tint world in Mississauga.
20% ceramic. ~$500 after tax. Rear windshield in 1 piece.
Great guys and they went out of their way to accommodate my schedule. Excellent quality work.

I find the 20% to be perfect. No issue driving at night (IMO) and a good amount of heat reduction and privacy.

The "after" picture from the side looks like you can't see in at all... but you can. The other pictures where you can see through the windows is more realistic of how it looks. It was just the lighting that made that picture look totally blacked out!

For what it's worth - I had the same experience at Inception. They totally bunked the install (started peeling after a week) and were a general nightmare to deal with. What a huge mistake going there. I finally gave up trying to deal with them, had everything removed by another tint shop, reinstalled and moved on.

I only recently noticed my Inception install also started peeling in the rear windows. Never realized since I’m rarely back there. Really disappointed with the work. Weren’t able to get them to repair it?

Any shops on the west end of GTA? Seems like Inception isnt getting great reviews. I've used srs tints before, but wasnt blown away by them.

Looking for somebody in Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga, Brampton, or even out to Cambridge Guelph area
