Model S 85 pricing on 3/25 vs today

Hello,

I am fairly new to the forum and tesla and have a newbie question. I ordered a 85 on 3/25 to be delivered in July. My lease with Mercedes will be over in early June and I will be traveling for a month, so I decided that July would be good to receive a new car.
I learned about the new 70D and different pricing options today so I decided to configure one that is exactly like mine.
It looks like it's about $1000 cheaper to order a 85 with similar (same??) configurations today compared to last month. Mine is already in production and I don't think I can do anything at this point, but I just got curious about the pricing difference. I wonder if anyone here knows about this and can kindly explain it for me?

The Tech package you ordered included power lift gates that is not included with the new configuration. I also believe the lighted door handles, led fog and cornering lights also came included with the tech package. Someone please confirm this.

That is all part of the premium package now that is $5000 more.

Homelink appears to now be a standard feature.

Interesting that it's standard and part of the premium package at the same time.

That is correct. At least it was last month when I ordered mine.

I went through essentially the same analysis as the OP did, this morning. And spoke to my Tesla salesperson.

It looks like they've shifted things around. I thought I would save about $3,000 if I re-ordered, but upon closer review decided it wasn't worth it. As mentioned above, things like the lift gate have been shifted into the premium package... along with the high-end interior roof material I don't want. So to get what I have in my order now, I'd have to add in some things I don't want, and end up with a higher final price. If I could accept losing a few things, then the price could come in a little cheaper. But something like the power lift gate seems reasonable in a luxury car - I'll keep it and the fog/cornering lamps etc.

Just wish I'd had the colour options when I ordered though... the new blue looks pretty nice.

Just ordered an 85D last week with final confirmation two days ago. Today the 70d is announced. I still want the 85d but I am concerned because the Tesla website indicates that the 85d now has much better 0-60 time and range than "last weeks" 85d as well as more HP. Does anyone know whether there has been an actual change in the 85d from last week to this week?

As others have previously reported better than advertised 0-60mph times for the 85D, the car you ordered and the car you can order today are most likely the same.

Conculsion:- The car that makes sense is the 70D wihout the premium package giving a total saving of $16353 from the car on order. By saving $16353k I lose 45km range, 1sec slower 0-100km and power liftgate. I don’t care about ambient lighting or fog lights.
I feel it’s a bit foolish to not go for the 70D - What is your view?

I think you meant to show the yellow S70D savings as a positive number, but otherwise I follow. It's a compelling argument and one I'm considering. However, where I live, nothing is close and the 50km of range loss could well bite me in the ass. Whether that's worth $16k I don't know (probably not), but it's something to think about. If I was starting at zero, without an order in place, I'd perhaps be more willing to go with the S70D... but I've got my head around what it's going to cost now, so I'm at peace - sort of...!

vchadha - absolutely the 70D makes sense in that scenario. I think a lot of recent 85D orders may think the same way. It does add a value proposition of "what do I really lose by paying $16K less?" I think it is very close to an 85D without the 30-40 mile range.
