I was at the Hertz in San Diego and saw a white P85+ next to the Gold counter. $1,500 for the day! After haggling it came down to $900. I paid my $80 and got in a convertible Mustang and drove off, bored stiff - but with a heavier wallet!

Man, I'd rent mine out for $900 bucks a day!

So would I... that price is just ridiculous. This needs to get down to about $250 a day in order to approach the general rental-to-car-value ratio as their other cars.

Agree - Just a marketing ploy from Hertz. The girl at the counter didn't even know what it was and didn't think they'd rented it yet. But she had a good attitude when we asked for their best price.

I wish there was a company that would rent one out with full insurance.

Buddy of mine wanted to rent a Boxster while visiting San Diego last year - $1500/day. He also settled on a Mustang convertible.

    Wow...

At $4k/week, you could BUY a Model S in a few months.

I was in Germany on vacation, getting back last week, and renting a $70,000 Mercedes E-Class diesel wagon set me back 220 Euros for a week. (I'd reserved a Passat but they gave me an E220 for no extra charge)

...and that 220 Euros included the 1-way surcharge (Pick up in Nuremburg, drop off in Freiburg).

I wonder if the people at hertz are aware of the vampire loss because at that rate that car is going to be sitting in the lot looking pretty.

I'm actually in talks with Hertz to rent that car from SFO but it's always showing as "not available"!

@twinclejet: I actually emailed them a few days ago but no replies. How are you contacting them? On the phone?

    The response I got was:

Thank you for your interest in Hertz.

    We apologised for the delay.

We have checked the vehicle is offered at San Francisco airport and it is
    subject to availability upon request.

Please let us know the rental date and we will check with the Location
    Manager for this special vehicle.

Hi, Hertz gave me $375 a day for one week. Funny that their confirmation email was a screenshot of Hertz's internal reservation system :)

There are some Tesla owners that have written about renting out their cars. Anyone know what they are charging?

Have enquired regarding the SFO rental. Apparently they can add LDW for $70 per day.

Also, have just sent an enquiry to ask whether I can rent it as I am 24 years old.

    Lets see what they say.

Nooooooo! You need to be 25 to rent from the Dream Car collection.

Will be 25 in less than a month after I want to rent it. :(
