Model S Battery Replacement

The warranty for our 2012 S P85 says that we have 8 years from the date of delivery for our battery warranty. Tesla is now telling us it is 8 years from the date of production. That's not true, when we purchased the Model S CPO our warranty stated "8 years from date of delivery". Tesla is now telling us the Date of Delivery has been wiped from the log and they can't tell us what that date is. However they are telling us the Date of Production was December 2012 meaning we are out of warranty for battery replacement. Has anyone dealt with this? Seems like wiping the "Date of Delivery" from the log is suspicious and fraudulent IMO.
 
You should be able to find the original warranty documents using the internet archive. Recall that it was teslamotors.com back then.

Scary. If this turns out to be another part of batterygate, they really are doing everything to run out the clock without making warranteed repairs
 
i see , so do you not have any documents/emails of when you took delivery from them in 2017 ?

Also are you expecting to have 8 year unlimited mileage battery warranty from the date you purchased in 2017 ?
I think they’re just hoping a Dec 2012 production car wasn’t delivered until Feb or beyond so they can sneak in under the wire, but that’s a stretch.
 
Coverage varies depending on the model:

  • Model S: 8 years, unlimited miles (with the exception of the original 60 kWh battery manufactured before 2015, which is covered for a period of 8 years or 125,000 miles.)
  • Model X: 8 years, unlimited miles
  • Model 3 with Standard or Mid-Range Battery – 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of battery capacity over the warranty period.
  • Model 3 with Long Range Battery – 8 years or 120,000 miles (192,000 km), whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of battery capacity over the warranty period.
This warranty also covers damages from a battery fire in the extremely rare instance that one should occur, even when caused by user error.

Please note that abuse and neglect (including ignoring service notifications) can void this warranty. Coverage is also void on vehicles with a salvage or rebuilt title.

Owners are expected to install every new software update, comply with recall advisories, carry passengers and cargo within specified limits, and make all repairs as needed.

Transferability

Coverage begins the day a vehicle is put into service, and is fully transferable to subsequent owners at no additional cost. This is regardless of whether a vehicle is sold by a private party or a dealer.

Extended Service Agreement

It is possible to extend the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period for a Model S or Model X purchased from Tesla or a private party for a period of two or four years:

Model S

2-Year Extended Service Agreement: $2,100
4-Year Extended Service Agreement: $4,250

Model X

2-Year Extended Service Agreement: $2,400
4-Year Extended Service Agreement: $4,800

The cost is an additional $500 if the extended service agreement is purchased 180 days after the vehicle is originally put into service, and can be purchased until 30 days after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires. It can be canceled at any time for a prorated refund.

Tesla’s purchased from a third-party dealer are not eligible to add an extended service contract. An extended service agreement is not currently offered for Model 3.

FWIW. I saved the 2014 version of the warranty document and it clearly states the warranty starts on delivery. Not build.

"When Does the Warranty Period Begin and End?
This New Vehicle Limited Warranty begins on the first day a new vehicle is put into use by delivery
to the first retail purchaser(s), or by leasing or registering as a company car or demonstrator,
whichever is earlier, and provides coverage for the period based on the specified warranty as
described in the section “WARRANTY COVERAGE.” Parts repaired or replaced, including
replacement of the vehicle, under this New Vehicle Limited Warranty are covered only until the
applicable warranty period of this New Vehicle Limited Warranty ends, or as otherwise provided by
applicable law."

How much are they asking you to pay for a replacement pack?
