Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I don’t believe this is true. SA = Sales Advisor. If you order strictly online, you are not assigned a SA. DS = Delivery Specialist. It is the DS that will contact you once you get closer to delivery. SA’s work in showrooms. DS’s work in delivery centers.
That wasn't true in my case. I ordered my S in February purely online and hadn't ever talked to anyone at the local showroom. A couple weeks later I got a VM from a manager at the local showroom who told me congrats on the order and to expect a call from my advisor in a week or two. And my advisor did indeed call me a couple weeks later to give some basic info and answer any questions I had.

That is not my experience. I bought online and within a few days I received a text from my SA (Sales Advisor) congradulating me on my order and ask me to text her if I had any questions or problems. I had two Tesla accounts, one for solar and the other for my Model S and Cybertruck reservations. I have been trying to combine those accounts for months. I texted my SA (Sales Advisor) and within a week I had my accounts change over to one account.

Tesla's communication sucks, but a few of us have good SAs that are trying to be helpful. Too bad Tesla doesn't communicate honestly to their own employees a.k.a. the SAs. Tesla is a good company because they make great cars. Not perfect cars. Tesla could be a Great company if they also had good (or average) customer service.

I think it was @RMG007 who said it but. For me in a non direct sales state like Texas, I had an SA who helped with the test drive. Then I called could call them for updates/items needed, but the delivery person was some other random guy at a different location because where I test drove did not do deliveries. From there - it was always a random person I worked with when visiting the service center. There was one final person involved out in nevada, who coordinated all the logistics for shipping the car and helped with the paperwork.

Very different process I think.

When I ordered on 9/22 (during the + reveal, RN11395) it was before the refresh and onslaught of orders, a day or so later an SA from one of the local Tesla sales centers contacted me and asked if I had any questions. I asked him if he had any info other than what was announced, and he of course said he didn't but he would let me know if he did... I have 2 service/delivery centers ~30mins away from me, but I always get auto-selected to the one that has more traffic around it as it's technically a couple miles less from me, but always a longer drive, and I mentioned I normally choose the other, so they definitely do select a SA for your order (at least here).... I would agree though that I'm sure some SAs are just lazy, or busy fielding questions... or have nothing to say anyway... yet.

They did away with that split about the time they decided to get rid of stores. When they walked that decision back, they cut costs by eliminating the SA/DS split. Now you have a Tesla Advisor (what most folks here have been calling an SA) who handles entire lifecycle from answering questions to helping place an order to delivery paperwork and vehicle orientation.

Interesting. Not the case here in So. Cal. There are TA's or SA's in the showrooms (at two mall locations in SD). There are Service Advisors at the three service centers and all new cars are delivered in Carlsbad by Delivery Specialists.

Just for the heck of it I called the Tesla store local to me and gave the SA my name & phone number. He said "I've got you right here". I told him I've heard crickets about my MS LR delivery date and he told me straight out "you're not getting that car until July or August." I told him I ordered it in November pre-refresh and confirmed late January to which he immediately said "oh you're getting your car in June, check back in mid-May." All in all, I got the sense that he was given canned responses to mouth to customers. I don't think he even really looked up my order. What a surprise.

Interesting, maybe because around here all the stores do deliveries, no truly stand-alone delivery center.

Battery safety may mean surviving crashes, with a structural battery more stress may be put on the batteries themselves, instead of an isolated plate surrounded by structure. This doesn't sound like an easy or fast thing to resolve.

It's not a structural battery pack, yet. On the earnings call they were pretty specific that's coming later and still in progress.

The model s/plaid have a new bms and cooling mechanism, along with new chemistry. Undoubtedly the battery issues for the new Model s come down to cooling. That's fairly obvious at this point.

The no leather thing is an environmental issue for Tesla. I am not a vegan, vegetarian, etc, but apparently the raising of animals, meat production, resulting leather is not great for the environment. So, given Tesla is an EV, and the fact there are some amazing synthetic leathers, they dropped real leather.

My Dad’s X has the white “leather” and it’s awesome. My kids always say it’s nicer than my 2016 real black leather, FWIW.

Just don't try and make me eat vegan steak 😂

Seriously, Tesla vegan leather is fantastic. Way way way better than Artico or Sensatec, and honestly almost as good as Nappa. Wish they used it on all interior surfaces...

So I stopped in to my local showroom to test drive a Y, this board is getting me more and more jaded about my S order…
Had driven the 3 and decided it was to small (banging my knees on wheel getting in/out) so order the S… but.. the Y seemed larger and easier… I think it comes down to the sear height making for an easier in/out experience…

so… with my S, for current owners… can I set the suspension on its highest setting as part of my getting in/out profile coupled with the larger overall footprint of the S am I going to be happy ???

thinking of putting a Y order in as a backup plan for when the S is finally available to test drive and if I don’t like it…

thoughts ?

I‘ve had a 2016.5 P90DL with real leather and several 3/Y cars with the vegan leather. I have never experienced the vegan leather in a Model S/X. Is this material different than what is used in the 3/Y?

I certainly hope so. If it is the same as my 3/Y I will be disappointed. While this material holds up well and is very easy to clean, it certainly doesn’t leave one with the impression of a fine leather.

Canada at least has reposted expected delivery date ranges of 'August/September'. Calling a dealership was useless as they feigned not even knowing the 10-14 weeks had been removed. This is my first EV and I am new to the Tesla world but learning a lot about what it is like to be happy that Elon allowed you to have one of his cars (and I cannot wait !) so reminds me of when I was an Apple Fanboy years ago :)

I live in LA and ordered from store in Century City December 15th. They don’t offer any delivery to me. I need to pick mine up from Glendale or Marina Del Rey service center, both are under 15 Miles from me so I am not sure why they would not deliver. But they do have dedicated delivery people at those centers. So I chose Marina del Rey as my SA told me he fet that group was a little experienced. I ordered in December and was called by delivery guys in Marina Del Rey several times in January asking me if I wanted one of the inventory Model S (pre-refresh).
Regardless I am happy to pick it up so that someone can take their time and explain how the car works ( this is my first ev) and meet the service people.
I am unsure how other order in LA are being handled.

Member "FOOS," did you order a refresh ? Since you disagree (with a thumbs down) pretty much every time you have an opinion, it makes more sense to explain why you disagree. Especially since you're pretty much the only one doing it without saying a word. And some of the posts you disagree are super weird. Just says you're either ' a negative person' or you're a Tesla employee.
Don't worry, this is a safe place to speak your mind, Just saying .
