Pics tomorrow afternoon sometime. After I get a tag and pay sales tax on my car.
What am I missing? Sales tax on your car? Separately? Not gone through the payment process yet. I pay separately for the sales tax even though it's on my bill of sale? Huh?
Do I go to the DMV to pay for it and not include it in my check to TMC? Of course, always had dealer do this for my for previous cars.

If it's on your bill of sale you don't pay it separately. Sales tax is a state thing, you're in Illinois and ElSupreme is in Georgia. The laws are totally different. In some states there is no sales tax on the bill of sale, and people have to register the car themselves and pay sales tax then (they don't let Tesla pay it because they aren't properly licensed in the state). Of course in some states you don't pay it at all

That's me!! lol. A very rare Thank You to NJ for saving me ~$7000 by having no sales tax and no luxury tax for zero emission vehicles! although they do slam us with the highest property taxes in the country :( but hey, at least we don't have to pump our own gas! that's illegal! oh crap I forgot I wont be needing to do that anymore anyway haha.

Collection of state and local sales tax is a dealer function. If Tesla is acting as a dealer in your state, they will collect sales tax when they deliver the car and you will be asked to sign Powers of Attorney (PoAs) permitting them to handle the title paperwork. In some cases you will be given a temporary tag so you can drive while your paperwork is processed. In others (like Florida), the dealer can go on line and transfer your registration/tag from your trade in directly to the new car and provide you with a current permanent registration.

As gregincal eluded to, it purely depends on if Tesla has worked out the dealer functionality in your state. Texas and Georgia are two problems right now. I'm sure there are more; I'm just not up on it.

A bit off-topic, but do you know why it's illegal to pump your own gas in NJ? I was having a discussion about it the other day with some people from NJ, and no one know why, or when it started.
The law dates from 1949. Why New Jersey Has Full Service Gasoline Stations | Defender of the Middle Class

It was established due to safety concerns. Because gasoline is a dangerous, flammable, volatile liquid, it was understood that only trained people should handle it. Pumps weren't as foolproof as they are now (they're still not that foolproof).

The law was maintained during later decades, when pumps had more safety features, and most people knew how to handle gasoline, as a "full employment program". Attempts to repeal it foundered on the thousands of jobs which would be eliminated.

I received my 85kWh Green Model S today around 2 EST. It was missing a UMC cable, but had all the adapters.
This sort of stuff with missing parts on delivery is still going on? This needs to stop; it's creating unnecessary work for the service department. I had assumed it was just due to the rush to get stuff out before the end of 2012. But it seems that the final inspection simply isn't being done correctly.

Yeah but within 1 hour of calling and leaving a voicemail on the 800 number (and my Product Specialist's voicemail) I had a phone call and a plan to get a cord, and within 3 hours I had a cord. All of this in Atlatnta. I literally had 8 calls from Tesla (not including the ones with the Atlanta Service guy to coordinate the drop off) within 24 hours. Based on these conversations I think they would have flown someone to Atlanta that day to personally hand a cable off to me. Plus I had a full battery so I could have gone 2 or 3 days, but without joy riding.

With my delivery experience Tesla wasn't very active. But I signed up for that with the 'early Dec delivery'. They flat out told me I wouldn't get the proper delivery experience. This service/owner experience was WAY beyond anything that I ever expected. I have no doubt that Tesla's communication and QC stuff is getting ironed out. It just will take some time.

It's happened! I have VIN #4270 for res. #8061. :-D So excited I can barely stand it. My delivery window hasn't changed, as far as I know anyway, still starting on the 28th but I was told to expect it later in the window, so I'm thinking a week or so into February.

Coincidentally, Solar City's out today, the day I got the VIN, doing solar panel site survey, energy/house efficiency survey, and some final surveying for installing the HPWC. So it's a very electric/solar day here.

#3304 arrived this morning in Gainesville, FL. Looks so bad-ass with the Grey/Dolphin Grey combo ;)

Congrats! I know you were one of 'us' (early December delivery carrots) so it's nice to see some progress on your side :)

That sir, is a well rounded garage. I would need a 4 sided coin to decide which "keys" to pick up in the morning.
I think you want the black die.

I believe that name is 'taken' on the forum. I'm sure its owner will chime in...

Oy! What an adventure - but fun!

Went with Jcmason to the Queens service center to pick up our matching Model S's yesterday - truck driver with mine never showed up (the Tesla guys were doing a quick turn-over for me!). Come to find out that the truck driver came down with the flu and the truck was sitting a bit past Hartford CT. Nate & Gilbert of the Queens service center said - "we're getting you your car - we'll make it happen!" -- WOW!

They tracked down my car, called the trucking company to arrange to get it - they sent out a single flatbed to the truck, offloaded the other cars and put mine on the flatbed! My delivery specialist Gilbert said - "come on - lets go get your car!" and took me in his personal car the 120 miles up to Hartford. We met the flatbed, off-loaded the car and Gilbert (in the FREEZING windy cold - 14 degrees!) checked the car out, put on my plates and sent me on my way....

I'm always up for an adventure! My first drive in my Model S was a 100 mile trip home (she still had an 87% charge after 9 days transport in the cold - wow!) -- what a pleasure! Today I'm bringing her back to Queens to get the inspection and have her detailed.

These guys bent over backwards because they knew I was so excited to get my car..... What a company!
