Wiki Model S Delivery Update

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
Cleaned up the formatting in the wiki post to make it more readable and added a couple of entries from the TM forums. It occurs to me the info could be converted into an actual table with columns for date(s), location, and each option, to make it easier to track down batching. But that's a lot of work, and since I'm not even a reservation holder, let alone a Sig, I wimped out.

I got a call today from TM and got very excited!

BUT

It was actually about a change request I had made regarding the wheels for my sig -- I wanted to change to the pert wheels from the silver ones (both 21's). They agreed to the change, and then we talked delivery. I was quoted end of October for my sig (1058), but when I mentioned that I wanted to pick up at the factory there seemed to be an indication of earlier possibility (nothing committed to).

Anyway, take it as you will. All I can say is that I cannot wait, but I will try to do so very patiently...

The purpose of this thread is to:

Post a Another option would be for TMC to post a banner on the Model S page with last delivery (why not throw in the finalize data too!)

You will find that summary on page 1 of this thread.

I tried to change my wheel selection and they said it couldn't be done once production had started because the whole manufacturing process is locked in when they start the build and the options (even wheels} have some impact on build parameters.
And just in case it does have something to do with parts availability, I'm getting non-perf, sig red, black leather, obeche, silver wheels, paint protection. No jump seats.

Maybe the cars that have delays are due to change orders after signing the MVPA?

Well I just got my email yesterday! (about 3 hours after I sent in an email to my store asking if they kew anything. Hmmmmm...)

Coming out to DC store, window of Sept 21 to Oct 5

So I am SSL 126, vin 96
sig perf
sig red
pano
19" wheels
air supension
black interior
carbion fiber
paint armor
dual chargers
tech/sound pkgs

My vin seems to be inline with the ones seen so far except for the 208 outlier.
More fuel for the discussion

Got my long awaited call today from my delivery specialist for Sig #527 (after sending an email inquiry yesterday). No vin yet (he said the car wasn't far enough in the process to get that). Delivery Oct 5-19 (SF Bay Area - maybe factory pick-up depending on actual date). Sent signed mvpa on Jun 8. Congig: sig red performance, black leather w/piping, cf decor, 19" wheels, spoiler, paint armor, no pano roof, no jump seats.

I don't even have a guess on the build sequence anymore.

My Model S is ready for me, but I can't get to it. :cursing:

I split my life between Boulder, CO and Pagosa Springs, CO. My plan is for my Roadster to live in Boulder, and the Model S to live in Pagosa. This will give me a Tesla in each location; normally, I fly between the two places.

I was originally scheduled to get my Model S, SSL#40, VIN#37 in Denver on 8/28, then drive it to Pagosa on 8/30. Because of the door handle issue, that was put on hold. By the time the door handle issue got resolved, I could not have the Model S delivered to me in Pagosa before I was to return to Boulder on 9/11, so we scheduled a delivery in Boulder for today, 9/11.

Because of unexpected, important travel, I returned to Boulder on 9/10, and tried to take delivery yesterday in Denver. That did not happen because of some fault codes being thrown about charging the 12V battery. That issue got resolved, but not before I had to fly to Oklahoma today. :crying:

With luck, I will be back in Boulder on Friday or Saturday and can take delivery then. After 3.5 years, a few days is not a lot, but it is frustrating. :frown:

Wow. Somehow your Model S will find you eventually. Good luck and safe travels.

Well, there's something to be said about retirement. I can take delivery anytime day or night, 24/7, rain or shine. I just hope there isn't a death in the family. It would be a tough call. (for family members reading this--I'm just kidding.)

Ah... I can just envision your Model S gliding silently past regal Princeville, beautiful Hanalei and scenic Poipu! Congrats!

Pretty sure the S does as well. I think it's standard practice in all EV's to have a 12V battery charged by the DC/DC converter. Theoretically you could do without but it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Just continuing on this tangent for a minute, the Model S will likely have a 12V bus. There are just too many subsystems that run off it, and they'll want a 12V battery to buffer it in case the DC/DC converter hiccups and because the high voltage system is completely shut off during car power down (for safety reasons). This is how the Volt works -- but the 12V battery is quite small and nowhere near big enough to crank the gas engine. That's what the big battery and motor is for :)

(Note this also means that a Volt can NOT be used to jump start a gas car (i.e. via 12V system jumpers), and I'll bet the Tesla can't either. Perverse but true.)
