Did they actually say that there would be, or people just assumed that there would be based on pictures?

I don't recall them every saying there would be a passenger display.
These both fall into the "lost along the way" IMO:
  • Someone posted about seeing mention of a connection for a light engine in the refresh Model X door panel trim and behind the trim there is a blue connector that doesn't go to anything right now
  • There is a connector on the HW3 motherboard marked passenger display.

Ok, so you admit that Tesla never advertised those two features would be included.

I remember there being something about air quality, but I don't recall if it said there would be a senor, or if it would just report it on the screen, potentially from an Internet source.

Just my opinion...

I always thought the tilting display was a nothing-burger. Coming from a model 3, i thought it was just fine. I saw literally no reason for the display to tilt. I never felt like i couldn't see it...or that i would at all benefit from the screen moving in any way.

Now having driven the Model S for a couple of days, i think it's an even bigger nothing burger. that center screen feels comparatively MASSIVE. I really can't see any advantage to the screen moving. Just my .02

LOL - @2021plaid this is EXACTLY how I felt when I read that bunch of hogwash @Leodoc wrote. Now that he's got the car, he's taken a page out of @Hayseed_MS's book and has to give his opinion on everything. Damn you @Leodoc, damn you @Hayseed_MS and especially, damn you @2021plaid for facilitating this nonsense! Dude, where's my motherf*****' tilting ******** screen you dirty **********sss!!!

PS, some reviewer I saw today even mentioned that a tilt for the screen would be nice! You are all out of your *********** minds!

Oh what a night! Just got back from my neighbor. He got his MSM Plaid today, 51 miles. Ordered 2 weeks ago! And he let me drive itM. But first, his Y performance which was great. Then his plaid which was phenomenal, I floored it 3 different times. Then his wife’s taycan, which is in my opinion the sleekest looking car out there, incredible wheel rims, etc.
my MS is supposed to be quicker than the Taycan and the Y performance, and that is plenty for me. The Plaid was just…more than insane. More than Ludicrous. I know, it was…Plaid! (Truly amazing, and docile when going slow). Handled like a dream. Those blinkers are capacitive, didn’t expect that, will take getting used to.
what a night!

Difference is, BMW (and Ford) tells you upfront AND credits you back the cost if you already had ordered with expectation of the features.

Tesla on the other hand, removes passenger lumbar support with no notice AND charges you the same price. (occurred earlier this year with the y)

(It would almost be comical if it wasnt so horrific customer service)
So BMW credits back $200 for the lumbar and then the dealer marks up a $10,000 market adjustment, 😂. Very up front of course, right there on the windshield.

To be fair and to play the advocate of the devil

Would you be ok with tesla charging every time they ADD a function?

So when they added the ability to stream youtube, etc...when they add functions to AP....improved audio...range, speed, etc, etc, etc, etc.....Are they allowed to charge you for these improvements if they weren't there at the time of ordering? What about after you receive the car? can they charge you then?

listen...I understand the frustration, i really do. I'm waiting on "noise cancelation" on my S. That said, I don't think it is fair to compare it to OEM because frankly, OEM doesn't give a rat's butt about updating/improving a product that you already purchased. Want the upgrade? wait till the next model year. Tesla is different. Most times, it is different in a way that benefits us...and occasionally, it is the opposite.
Well, Jeez, aren't you Mister Positivity now. We may have to pass the Crown. ;)

What was your impression of Taycan vs. Plaid?

Hmmm, let's see:
  • Tilting screen
  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Passenger side display
  • Air quality sensor
  • v11 UI
I did not realize the Model S did not have ambient lighting. Is it already in the car, but not activated? If I remember correctly, it was fairly basic anyhow compared to other car manufactures - right? So, when driving the Model S at night, the only thing that has any interior light is the massive screen? If so, that is fairly plain compared to BMW, Audi or Mercedes.

I don’t think I have ever seen a Model S at night (have seen Model 3’s and from the exterior look neat). How does the Model S exterior/interior? My current BMW 5 Series looks great at night interior and exterior.

It does have. It is activated. It is subdued.

What everyone is worked about is strips along the trim. Some renders seemed to indicate their presence.

Personally, I think some of these aftermarket light add ons for the 3 and Y are tacky.
