Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Really starting to womder when the Bay Area Tesla resident's cars are gonna go into production. Would have to think it would be by this Monday/Tuesday.

Last week the Tesla Twitter posted a signed hood with the milestone of 300 vehicles in one day it. Realistically it only takes them a day to assemble a Tesla (assuming they have all the raw materials - they do). Since there is no transit time they are waiting as long as they possibly can. I would not be surprised if some people in CA that ordered much later start getting calls on the 28-30 asking if they can accept delivery weeks early. It is all about the EoQ numbers. You will get your car before the end of the month. It is in their best interest.

So I was scheduled to take delivery of my new S75D tomorrow; it was supposed to arrive at the delivery center yesterday. So yesterday evening I get an email from my DS (who has in general been terrible at communication -- seems par for the course with Tesla) telling me it's been "delayed in transit" and will now arrive at the DC next Saturday. They need a day to do whatever they do to it and they don't deliver on Sundays, so that means Monday delivery for me -- almost a one week delay. So frustrating!

The question that keeps rattling around my brain is -- what kind of "delay in transit" could happen such that (a) my delivery specialist didn't know until it was delayed until the day it was supposed to show up at the delivery center, and (b) the delay was a whole week rather than just a day or two. It seems unlikely for both (a) and (b) to be true. I suspect my DS knew much sooner, or could have known if he'd been paying attention, but just didn't bother.

Can anybody who actually understands how they transport cars comment on what might cause something like this?

Model S 75D, delivery in PA
Ordered 8/4, confirmed 8/7, prod start 9/1, prod end ??? (MyTesla didn't update to prod complete for a long time; way after my DS gave me a delivery date, so I don't know when it actually left the factory).
Scheduled to arrive at DC 9/17, delayed to 9/23.

So a possible hint is that while my DS told me it was prod complete and in transit a couple of weeks ago, the MyTesla page didn't actually update to prod complete until sometime in the past week (didn't notice exactly when the change happened). Maybe my DS was just full of it all along and the 9/17 date was just bogus from the start? Given my experience with this DS, I wouldn't be surprised.

Similar story for me. 75D coming to Louisiana through Houston. Prod 8/26-??? it never updated. I called them after 10 days and they said it was finished and on rail to Houston, est delivery end of last week. Then I get a call friday (end of last week) telling me my car is still in Freemont! My page said in production up until that phone call friday and now delivery estimate is 2 weeks later than the original. Also scheduled to arrive 9/17 and now delayed until 9/23ish. Same time frame delivery delay. It has been rather embarrassing at work because everyone knows the car is coming and I get asked every day! Im tired of making excuses for Tesla. If I had test driven a Hyundai last week the salesperson/dealership would be harassing me constantly to buy a car! Now that Tesla has my money, all I hear are the chirping of crickets and a rare phone call with an update that is usually some guess about delivery. Im sure getting the car will make it worth it, but I tell you this, in about 5 or 6 years when the market is more open, I will NOT forget how frustrating the pre-delivery experience has been. I will be happy to know that I have options in this segment going forward.

I am in your same boat. In the Philly area and was supposed to take delivery on Wednesday, pushed due to transit issue and still no new date yet for me.

All fair except most of their communication is awful.

My DS has been very responsive via email. So no complaints here but others have had a horrible experience.

Got a call from my DS a few hours ago that my car went into Production Today. We set a tentative delivery (pickup) for 9/28. I am flying to San Jose from LA to take delivery. Wanted a road trip and also wanted to ensure I had best chance to take delivery before 10/1 for the .99% interest rate.

History:
Order Date: 8/30
Order Confirmation: 9/03
Production: 9/19
Fremont Pickup: 9/28 (tentative)

My Tesla Page: Your Tesla is currently in production. Est. Delivery Date un-change from Late Sept - October.

Hoping mine will also be delivered by 9/30 to take advantage of the 0.99% should it not be extended. According to my DS -- it should arrive at the Honolulu port "any day now."

Order Date: 8/3 -- 75D
Confirmed: 8/6
Production: 8/31
Completed production: 9/12

It takes about 5 days from the Oakland port to Honolulu port... getting very anxious. Tesla-Anxiety I tell you!

Nice Doing the same here from Seattle. Delivery at 2PM on 9/28 car went into production 9/15. Factory tour at 4pm. Then heading back up the coast over the weekend. Good luck, and your tell your DS you are booking flights and they will schedule your date now.

My delivery date has moved up from Friday(9/22) to TOMORROW(9/20)...SUPER-WOOT!

I got an email yesterday evening that mine was not as late in transit as expected -- or as my DS so enthusiastically put it, was earlier than expected. In principle I could have picked it up this morning, but my damned DS foiled me again -- since he expected the car to arrive in several days, he procrastinated on the paperwork and it couldn't be done in time. Argh.

Well, as everybody says, I won't care once I have the car, I guess? But stuff like this sticks with you. We're early adopters but the mass market won't be so forgiving. They need to get their act together -- and I'm not just complaining that my car was late and there was uncertainty. I'm complaining specifically about the fact that my DS doesn't bother to read or respond to email, always procrastinates on everything, that the MyTesla site is completely broken, and that communication in general is awful. They have a cultural problem in their delivery centers, and cultural problems are very difficult to fix -- they have a lot of inertia.
