Wiki Model S Delivery Update

First time poster, long term follower of this forum. Thank you everyone for all of your insightful information that allowed me to purchase my dream car today! I picked it up from Tesla Orlando, who were nothing but superb throughout the whole process.

Model S 75D
Deep Blue Metallic with Grey Slipstreams
Ordered January 27th
Production Started in Mid February
Delivered March 17th

The only question I have is if the FL toll sticker will be able to read through the 2018 Model S. I knew it was a problem on the old ones. Haven’t seen any recent threads on my searches.

Please see picture below with the caption, “Only one of us is getting gas tonight!”

Congrats! I also ordered a DBM with Grey Slipstreams. Please post more pics!

Just got a call from store mgr. that all deliveries are being stopped until further notice (I was scheduled for delivery Monday)
because the few that they recently delivered with the MCU 2 had the screens go blank. The decision came from the top. Deliveries
will resume when Tesla pushes through the software fix for the MCU2. BTW, he did confirm that I DO have the MCU 2 .(Production 3/7-3/13.

That makes sense as to why cars are being delayed right now.

Even my DS - after telling me I was getting the new MCU - made it a point to mention thet they’ve been seeing cases where the screen just go black.

It sounded like a “heads up”, but now it makes sense why he made it a point to mention it.

Pictures don’t do this color combination justice. It looks so much better in person. You will be extremely happy! Here are a few pictures at delivery before tinting.

So I just got the same call unfortunately... VIN 2468XX March 7th build start. My delivery specialist hasn't been able to answer my question on whether or not my car was equipped with the new MCU but common sense would suggest it is... He said there is a bulletin that just came out last night stating that there is an issue with the IC coming on (it stays blank) when opening the door and that Tesla is suspending all deliveries until a fix is out. He states Tesla's engineers are all over it and they are hoping to roll out an update in the next 24-48 hours hopefully. Does anybody have access to these bulletins or have any additional info? Is there really a reason Tesla can't allow us to take delivery as planned until it's fixed? From a customer service standpoint I'd rather take possession of a car I'm paying for on time and possibly expect to experience a "bug" than to delay the delivery when an OTA update is expected either way.

Hello Everyone,
First post. I took delivery on my MS100D last Tuesday, March 13th. I did have to drop it off to service because of a paint issue and after a software update on the 14th, my dash screen(behind the steering wheel) has been going blank. The first time it went blank, a simple reset of the screen fixed it, but after that, it stayed blank. I dropped it off Friday to get the paint and screen issue fixed.

I feel much better hearing about the blank screen issue related with the new MCU, that means I have a new one. But yes I am confirming that I had the blank screen issue and I stumped the tech over the phone.

Confirmed 1/6
Production 3/2
Delivered 3/12

If the IC goes blank while you're driving, you have no speedometer (i.e. you can't see it). You also can't see the driving mode (e.g. reverse, drive, etc.). These could present serious safety issues, and that might be why Tesla is suspending new vehicle deliveries until this problem is fixed. Over on the Model X forum, there is a thread about delivery holds for what sounds like the same issue:

Deliveries on hold

Hopefully they get this fixed soon and you get your car soon!

Bruce.

Production went quickly, if you're only going by on-line updates. I went into production on 3/14, and My Tesla Account is showing "Your Tesla has been built and is in transit from the factory" today (3/17). Delivery scheduled for Tuesday 3/20, unless this MCU delivery hold is a thing.

I took delivery today and they said there was an issue that would take an hour or two to fix. When I came back, the store manager said that the issue is with the new MCU2 communicates with the IC. She explained that the IC is no longer linked with the MCU in MCU2 builds, and this has been causing issues. She said that during the hour wait they were required to patch in a “very senior engineer” into my car to get it satisfactory (aka, good enough) for delivery. Finally, she said that there may be some bugs but they are working a fix.

I’m on fw 2018.10.1 5e8443d, which is not a very common version according to Teslafi.

They gave me a loaner with 10.4 during my hour wait, and AP was incredible. Unfortunately, AP in my current version is nowhere near 10.4.

Hope this helps!

Can you verify that firmware? That should be a Model 3 version and not for the S. It’s ‘rare’ because there aren’t many 3’s on TeslaFi. You should be on 2016.6.1 or 10.4.

Edit, from your last comment, you are on 6.1 probably.

Is there really a reason Tesla can't allow us to take delivery as planned until it's fixed?

Some owners have sued Tesla under the lemon laws in some states and won. Simple software features that do not perform as advertised can make the car a "lemon". If a screen is not coming on I can see that being a much bigger issue than say door handle not presenting.
