Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Does the MyTesla site ever reflect the actual delivery date you have scheduled with your DES?

I do not believe so. I have scheduled a May 30 delivery but all I see on my dashboard is "Your Model S is being prepared for pickup or delivery." This is my second Model S. You should be coordinating by phone with your Delivery Specialist to pinpoint the delivery date. The four production/delivery messages I believe you'll receive are:
1) Something about your Model S has entered the production queue
2) "The Tesla factory is building your Model S"
3) "Your Model S is in transit from the factory"
4) "Your Model S is being prepared for pickup or delivery"

Patience is a virtue, a virtue I seem to be lacking at the moment. Production complete, S85D in transit as of May 20. DS in Portland out of the office until May 28. No delivery scheduled. Grrr, guess I wait (patiently?) for an update on the 28th.

My DS is also out. I"m going to call Tesla Monday - the voice mail says their "delivery team" is only available M-F. 888-771-2505. I have this number entered in my phone's contacts as "Elon Musk". Were I you I would not accept a delay in my delivery because my DS is on vacation. My car has been stuck in production for two weeks or so. My DS said it was finished production and in the quality inspection stage - but that was a week ago. Not sure what's going on. Hoping that nothing went wrong. I read a post from somebody who said Tesla told him/her their 70D suffered a "glitch" in production and they were assigned a new VIN and their car went back to the que for production. That's scary!

Do you remember which thread contains the remark about a possible 70D production glitch?

Due to the factory shut down last summer there were a lot of delivery appointments that couldn't be kept. So around September of last year they stopped putting them on the website. Policy was changed such that they weren't to even make appointments until cars were being transported. From what I saw they were fairly lax about that until December and the whole mess with P85Ds.

Prior to that they tried making the disclaimer about how the appointment wasn't a guaranteed time and that there could be delays bigger. So really this is about managing expectations.

I sent my DS an email when I noticed that the status message changed from "in production" to "in production queue". I thought it was odd that it would backtrack and feared the worst after reading about another 70D that had to be reproduced after a "glitch" in production.

Anyway, all is good .

My DS responded to my inquiry last night at 11:04 EST and assured me that the website status was an error and that the car had been produced successfully and was being prepared for delivery by rail. Great guy! Checked the site this morning and sure enough the message had updated to reflect the next step.

i thought I would post this for any others that might see the status messages going the wrong way.

70D | confirmed April 29th

Has anybody tried this email to get info about your car? I just sent them one - will post back if they respond.

Update: no response. Very disappointed in Tesla right now.

5/26 production complete and in transit

3 road trips in June, so I've been hoping it would be earlier delivery
Van Nuys delivery, not sure how long they will take to install dual chargers?

With the flooding we've had in Houston, has anybody heard if any new cars were submerged in the Houston Service Center? Nervously awaiting word on mine...

Update: finally talked to my DES: car will ship in the next couple of days. It was held so long because something was found in the quality control check and it had to be fixed. She didn't elaborate. I should pick up my car next week or weekend.

Also, just for general info, she informed me that Texas still gets its cars shipped in by truck, not train. Maybe just Houston, but I thought she said Texas, not 100% sure.

Also, she assures me no flooding occurred at the Houston service center - no flooded out cars!

Ok, now I am quite annoyed. After ordering first on Apr 12, production completed on May 12, and TM promising an initial delivery date of late May, DS now saying delivery is looking closer to mid-June. I have a strong suspicion the car is there in MA, but they are understaffed or on vacation or whatever, and taking their time to deliver the car. So much for hoping this company can execute to an earlier delivery. Wonder how much more these issues will multiply as they scale their volumes. Customer service so far gets a 1 on 10.

Actually I think you hit the nail on the head - they're already seeing issues multiply due to increasing volume. There were quite a few of us that ordered around 5-5 who saw our cars stay "in production" for weeks. I just hope Tesla gets its act together as stories of missed delivery dates will not help sales or the long term future of the company. But there are a lot of people who feel your pain, so if misery loves company you should feel a little better!

I would caution against assuming you know the problem though. There are many things it could be, but its (maybe unfortunately) most likely something substantial and not just employees on vacation, etc. In my case (and lots of others who ordered the same time-frame) it was some sort of glitch in production, and they had to re-do or fix it. I'm just glad they do a quality check and catch the problems before we get the cars. No doubt you're benefiting in the long run, really, even though its painful as hell in the short run.

In my case, I know there was no production issue. Tesla has switched to shipping by train which is cheaper - at the expense of customer satisfaction. While Tesla doesn't have an Apple like balance sheet to splurge on customer sat, it still not an excuse for Tesla to not improve customer experience during the order/delivery process. If credible alternatives emerge, customers can become a fickle bunch.
