Model S Holiday Mode

Here’s how to ge the Model S to do the same show as the Model X. Note that it takes a few extra steps but the results are worth it. It is highly suggested to have 2 people to do this.

1. First queue up the song Wizards in Winterland.

2. When the song starts, you’ll start by flashing your brights on and off to the beat of the song for the first 3 measures: 1/8 hit, 1/8 hit, ¼ rest, 1/8 hit, 1/8 hit, 1/8 rest, 1/8 hit.

3. Measure 4, start off with a 1/8 hit and you’ll be walking through various lights through the rest of this measure. Note that each of these are on the 1/8 beats. Note that there are 8 combinations of lights in this measure: 1/8 brights, 1/8 DRL, 1/8 regular headlights, then simulate the LED 3-point turning lamps by turning the steering wheel full lock in the next 3 1/8 beats. Then fog lamps.

4. Measures 5-8. Repeat all the above for the next 4 measures.

5. Now in measures 9-11, you’ll add in the turn signals to the mix. Following a similar pattern to #2, add the left blinker on beats 1 and 3, and the right blinker for beats 2 and 4. This is where it is handy to have a second person doing the blinker. This is just a mix of DRL, headlights, and brights, plus turning the steering wheel to get the cornering lamps going.

6. Measure 12, you can take a break. Just hit the brights for the first 1/8 beat.

7. Measure 13 hit the brights for the first 1/8 beat.

8. Measure 14-16 the brights are in this pattern: 1/8 hit, ¼ rest 1/8 rest, 1/8 hit, 1/8 hit, ¼ rest, 1/8 rest, 1/8 hit.

9. 17-20 are leading into the bridge with the following: ¼ hits on the left turn, right turn, fogs, headlights, drl, and brights and left turn and right turn.

10. Measures 21-24 is where the falcon wing doors start to open. They alternate between left and right fog lamps. Model S cannot do that. I would suggest replacing it with alternating left and right turn signals. These alternate very fast so you’ll need to work that turn signal extremely fast 1/8 beats each to the left and right. Be careful not to break the turn signal stalk during this portion.

11. To simulate the falcon wing doors, we will use the rear trunk and the sunroof.

12. Measures 25-28 are the same as 21-24. Follow the pattern there.

13. Measure 29 hit the brights for the first 1/8 beat.

14. Measure 30 hit the brights for the first 1/8 beat.

15. Measure 31-32 the brights are in this pattern: 1/8 hit, ¼ rest 1/8 rest, 1/8 hit, 1/8 hit, ¼ rest, 1/8 rest, 1/8 hit.

16. 33-36 This is where the doors start “flapping” and you can simulate this by hitting the trunk close and open several times in a row. This of course is done at the same time while following the blinking pattern in measures 9-11.

17. 37 hit the first beat, then walk the lights for the piano line. They use the 3-point turning lamps which is again, the steering wheel.

18. 38-40 are the same as 32-35 flapping.

19. Measures 41 and 42 are just a single 1/8 hit on the brights.

20. 43-46 are rests. This is the first real break. 4 measures of non-sweating.

21. 47-56 It is highly recommended to have two people for this step. The prior steps are possible with one person, but it is really hard to slowly open both front doors at the same time. You can try using one foot for the passenger door, and one arm for the driver door, while still flashing the lights, brights, and foglamps with the other arm. If you want to attempt this with one person, tie a string on the door handle release for the passenger side. Then use a cross country ski on one leg to open that door slowly. It might be easier to sit straddling the center console. You might not need the skis then.

22. 57 and 58 are single 1/8 hit on the brights.

23. 59-60 follows measure 31-32.

24. 61-64 are flapping of the mirrors and the falcon wing doors. This is doable with 1 person again along with the lights.

25. 65-66 are alternating left bright, right bright, left fog, right fog on the beat. This is not doable. Simulate it with the turn signal.

26. 67-68 are the same as 65-66 except it doubles the beat.

27. 69-70 standard pattern as in measures 9-11.

28. 71-74 are longer flashes on the brights on the 1 and 3

29. 75-76 are the brights held for about 8 beats.

30. The last measure 77. This is just a single 1/8 hit on the first beat.

Good Luck!

Yeah right. LOL. Me thinks some of you have way too much time on your hands. Still it would have been nice if us model S people got a simplified version of this. Just saw wizards in winter land 3 weeks ago strangely enough. Good show, an off shoot of the trans Siberian orchestra

Oh, do you mean the song by Styx, Too Much Time On My Hands? Maybe that'll be my next choreography.
