Cheers. He only drives 15km to work, and the supercharger is within 5kms, so I think he'll be fine with overnight and 160km.

Sounds as if he'll have no problems. Just set the slider to 90% (full daily charge) and he'll likely always have enough, even when the unexpected happens.

I had one electrician come by and he quoted me 790$ including permit and breaker 50amps to get the 240 outlet just a few feet away from my breaker in the garage!

Is this reasonable ?!
He was adamant anything less will be heap and not good work, and he's a certified electrician and said Tesla will quote me 1200$

For comparison, my uncle just installed a NEMA 14-50 (to make it easier for us to visit him) for the same price but it was a difficult installation. They had to run the cable across one entire wall of the basement, then through a stone foundation (not concrete - it was hard to drill) then in conduit under a porch (crawl space), then up through the porch wall which included some finish work similar to drywall. It included pulling permit. I thought he got a good deal for less than $800!

The comments about how prices vary widely are right and I don't know what's involved in your "short distance". Regardless, $790 sounds high.

No VIN needed, no discounts to my knowledge. You MIGHT be able to get one at a service center and save the shipping.

I just picked one up from my service center. Went to order online and they were charging me shipping and tax. SC ordered in and saved me the shipping at least.

I got mine from a SC as well. Much faster if you have one close by. You also don't have to deal with potential shipping damage though they are packaged pretty well.

Many credit cards will extend the warranty on a purchase for another year. Just buy it with the right card and you'll be covered for two years instead of one.

I just got off the phone with my credit card wanting to do the exact same thing and was denied. My 15 month old HPWC fuse just died and a ranger is coming tomorrow. It was denied the extended warranty by the card because of this exclusion:

Boats, automobiles, or other motorized vehicles and their motors, equipment and accessories.

Here's my set up using Number 2 wire running 80' from the main load center to the HPWC

Also have a NEMA 14-50 as a back up running number 6.

48A charging for HPWC and 40A for the NEMA 14-50

If I decide to activate the dual charger I can run the full 72A from the HPWC.

I've got a 2016 MS75.

I bought my HPWC on October 9th and I got it installed by Willow Glen Electric in the SF Bay Area, it took then about 3 hours to install it. Really well done.

So... my HPWC is doing 5 red light flashing then a green the 5 red again.. Car is no charging.. Manual says 5 light flashing or more is HPWC need service Call Tesla.. Guess it's dead?

Did you try resetting it with the reset button or turning the circuit breaker off & on?

Yes. Reset button did nothing and breaker also.

The rule of services that 'Machines break, Software has bugs and People make mistakes' is true. After verifying that your input lines have correct voltage and ground is OK, then call Tesla.

This is an example of where a 14-50 installed on the same line would be good backup to an HPWC.

Why is the UK Tesla wallcharger only 32A, vs the US charger at 80A? I have single phase 230V with a 100A breaker to the house. Cooker/shower/heating is all gas, so I was expecting to be able to use a higher Amp charger?
