No narrow gauge railroad in the Monarch Pass area so far as I am aware. The trains used to run through my Ouray County but shut down in 1953. The most famous local narrow gauge steam train runs from Durango to Silverton but I believe that they are having to discontinue coal-fired steam engines because of the fire danger (the sparks from the smoke stacks often start fires). I think that they will convert some of the steam engines to oil-fired.

I saw the narrow-gauge running in Durango on Thursday on my way home (I live about 6 miles from @dpgcolorado). Pretty sure they've been running all summer. The bought a diesel from Alaska, and have been working to convert their classic engines (example).
