I used to have 2012 Model S and I feel its sound was equivalent to my current 2017 Model X.

I like bass so I feel my 2017 Model X sounds warmer and it has better bass than my 2018 Model 3 LR RWD.

On the Model S, there have been essentially 3 sound systems. Basic with 7 speakers, Premium with 12 speakers, and with the LR/Plaid 21 speakers for cabin music. Here are more details: Audio Systems for the Tesla Model S and Model X – TeslaTap

Each system variant included additional amplifiers and audio power as well.

The Model 3 has also had 3 variants with the number of speakers and amplifiers: Audio Systems for the Model 3 – TeslaTap

I've owned different Model S vehicles with each of the audio systems, I found the premium and then the newest LR dramatically better than the earlier versions.

We also have a 2022 Model Y (same system as the premium Model 3) and it sounds quite good but not as good as the current Model S. I suspect the 3/Y premium may be a little better than the older premium S/X as a newer design with more speakers and a smaller cabin.
