With this release, we are introducing a Trip Energy Prediction feature to help you better manage your energy usage as you drive. In addition, we are offering new reverse Camera guidelines and a Park Assist view to improve your driving experience. This release also includes Smart Preconditioning to automatically prepare your cabin temperature for you before you drive. There are numerous other improvements across various areas in your Model S, such as: shuffle/repeat in the Media Player, one-touch phone number dialing in Calendar events, and better support for TuneIn podcasts.
The Calendar app requires the use of the latest Tesla Mobile App, available for Android and iOS phones.

Please note that this release brings fundamental improvements and changes to how your vehicle operates. It is Important to read these Release Notes so that you understand how these changes affect the operation of your vehicle. You may also access these Release Notes at any time by tapping the Tesla T on the touchscreen and tapping the Release Notes link on the "About Your Tesla" window.
With this release, we are expanding the Driver Assistance features in your Model S with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Auto High Beam, and Forward Collision Warning. In addition, we are introducing Trip Energy Prediction, a new feature to help you better manage your energy usage as you drive. This release also includes Smart Preconditioning to automatically prepare your cabin temperature for you before you drive. There are numerous other improvements across various areas in your Model S, such as: shuffle/repeat in the Media Player, one-touch phone number dialing in Calendar events, and better support for TuneIn podcasts.
The Calendar app requires the use of the latest Tesla Mobile App, available for Android and iOS phones.
Please refer to the in-vehicle Owner's Manual for more detailed information relating to these features. You can always view the Owner's Manual by tapping the "MANUAL" button in the lower left corner of the Settings Panel.
Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (Autopilot hardware equipped cars only)
With this release, Model S cruise control has been upgraded to Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (TACC). When TACC is engaged, Model S will adjust its speed based on the car directly in front of you, decelerating and accelerating as needed.
You can now immediately adjust your set speed to the speed determined by Speed Assist. To do so, first check the Speed Assist speed, indicated by the tick mark at the edge of the speedometer. If this speed is appropriate, pull the cruise stalk toward you and hold it for approximately half a second. When you release the stalk, your set speed is the speed determined by Speed Assist, taking into account any OFFSET FROM SPEED LIMIT you've set.
NOTE:
To adjust the TACC set speed manually, simply tap on the cruise stalk up or down as needed. Tapping to the first detent will adjust the speed by 1 mph (1 km/h) and taping to the second detent will adjust to the closest 5 mph (5 km/h) increment. A triangular indicator at the edge of the speedometer will indicate the set speed.
Other TACC functions - engaging, disengaging, initially establishing a set speed, etc. - remain the same as the previous Model S cruise control.
You can adjust the following distance to the car in front of you by rotating the end of the cruise stalk from 1, the shortest following distance, to 7, the longest following distance. This distance will vary depending on your speed.
When TACC is engaged, a CRUISE badge will appear in the speedometer. If the badge is blue, Model S is actively tracking a car and will accelerate/decelerate based on your set speed, the following distance you've set, and the speed of the tracked vehicle. If the badge is gray, Model S is not actively tracking a vehicle and will continue at your set speed as if there were no car in front of you.
NOTE:
Overtaking Cars
While TACC is engaged, activating the left-turn signal will accelerate your Model S a bit faster than your current speed - if TACC is tracking a car and you are traveling slower than your set speed. TACC will still maintain a following distance to the car in front, albeit shorter than normal. This feature is particularly useful when you need to pass a car on the left. This feature is enabled by default. You can disable this setting via the OVERTAKE ACCELERATION setting located in Controls > Settings > Driver Assistance > CRUISE CONTROL.
NOTE: This feature does not activate below 45 mph (72 km/h).
Auto High Beam (Autopilot hardware equipped cars only)
Auto High Beam is a new convenience feature where Model S will temporarily switch to low-beam headlights if there is traffic or urban lighting detected in front of the car, such as from an oncoming vehicle or street lights. The blue headlights telltale in the instrument panel will display a small "A" when high beams are on. This telltale will turn gray when high beams are not on. Auto High Beam is activated when you turn your high beams on and have enabled this feature via the AUTO HIGH BEAM setting in Controls > LIGHTS.
NOTE: When Auto High Beam is enabled, you can manually turn on the high-beam headlights by pulling the turn indicator stalk all the way towards you.
Forward Collision Warning (Autopilot hardware equipped cars only)
Forward Collision Warning will warn you when there is an object in your path and a collision is likely unless the driver takes corrective action. This warning consists of a visual indicator in the center of the dial in the instrument panel, along with a chime. You can set how early you'd like to be warned, or disable this feature, via the FORWARD COLLISION WARNING setting in Controls > Settings > Driver Assistance > COLLISION AVOIDANCE ASSIST.
NOTE: Forward Collision Warning will not warn you about all possible collisions and may also warn you of collisions that will not occur.
Trip Energy Prediction
To help you better anticipate your charging needs, Model S will now calculate the projected energy remaining at your destination using your predicted speed, the elevation, and other factors along your route. Trip Energy Prediction is only active while using Navigation.
Navigation
The projected energy remaining will briefly be displayed as a percent when a trip is first generated by the Navigation system. Thereafter, you can view it by tapping the area at the bottom of the turn list. While Navigation is active, Model S will also monitor your energy usage and advise you:
Trip Chart
You can also monitor energy usage while on your trip via the new Trip Chart in the Energy app. This chart allows you to track Model S's actual energy usage against the initial prediction. To examine the chart in more detail, you can tap on the zoom button in the upper right portion of the chart.
Energy Option for Battery Display
To better support the new Trip Energy Prediction feature, you now have the option to view the energy remaining in your battery as a percentage. You can switch to this view by choosing the ENERGY option in Controls > Settings > Languages & Units > ENERGY & CHARGING.
Smart Preconditioning (BETA)
With this release, Smart Preconditioning will automatically get the cabin climate ready for you, based on the last set temperature and your driving schedule. Model S will observe your driving schedule and when it's confident in identifying a pattern, will start Smart Preconditioning when you are charging, at home, or at work.
NOTE:
New Navigation View: Route Overview
There is now a new way to view your route when you are using Navigation. The Route Overview mode allows you to see the full route on the map. This view will adjust and zoom in on your destination as you make progress on your trip. You can switch to this mode by tapping on the control in the center of the Maps control bar.
Enhanced Park Assist View
With this release, the Park Assist view has been enhanced to provide better guidance when you park your Model S. When you shift to reverse, the Park Assist view will appear, showing any objects that are in close proximity to the front and rear of your Model S. A chime will also sound as your Model S approaches any objects in the front/rear. The Park Assist view will close when you shift to drive unless there are objects close to the front of the car, in which case the Park Assist view will close automatically when the speed exceeds 5 mph (8km/h). You can also close the Park Assist view manually by tapping on the "x" in the upper left-hand corner. If you need to silence the chime, you can top on the mute button, located in the bottom left corner of the window.
NOTE: If you drive with the Camera app active, you will now have the option to switch to the Park Assist view at speeds below 5 mph (8 km/h). This is particular useful if you need assistance while parallel parking. You can switch to the Park Assist view by tapping the button in the upper left corner of the Camera app window.
Reverse Camera Guidelines
To help you back up with more confidence, new guidelines are now available in the Camera view when you shift to reverse. The guidelines will curve appropriately in response to any steering wheel adjustments.
Calendar Enhancements: Meeting Notes & Phone Numbers
With this release, you can now do more with Calendar events: view event notes and easily dial phone numbers associated with an event - e.g., conference call phone numbers, etc. Additionally, you can now use the filter function to control which calendar events appear in the app.
The first phone number associated with an event - e.g., in the event location field or event notes - will be displayed with the event on the main Calendar view. Just tap on it to dial the phone number via the Bluetooth-connected phone.
You can also see all the phone numbers, conference codes, and web links associated with an event by looking at the event notes. Additionally, you can click on a web link inside of an event note and it will open in the Browser app. To view event notes, simply tap on the "i" next to the event.
NOTE: You will need the latest Tesla Mobile App to enable this new feature.
Media App Improvements
Shuffle/Repeat
You can now shuffle tracks in a playlist or repeat any track on a USB drive. Just tap on the Shuffle or Repeat icons beneath the album cover art to enable/disable these options.
TuneIn Podcasts
You can now pause or rewind/fast forward to any point in a TuneIn podcast. To rewind/fast forward, simply manipulate the scrubber bar in the Media app. You can also pick up where you left off in a TuneIn podcast when you return to your Model S.
Improved Rdio Buffering
With this release, there is better buffering for Rdio. You can see the music buffering ahead as the buffer bar "fills up."
Simplified Right Steering Wheel Controls
With this release, the right steering wheel controls have been simplified:
Factory Reset
You can now use the Factory Reset function to erase all personal data - e.g., saved addresses, music favorites, etc. - and reset all settings to their factory defaults. This is particularly useful when you are transferring ownership of the car - e.g. selling it or giving it to someone else. You will need to enter your My Tesla account information to complete the Factory Reset process. This feature is available via the FACTORY RESET setting in Controls > Settings > Service & Reset > CAR SOFTWARE.

With this release, we are now offering you an enhanced navigation system that incorporates real-time traffic, and a new Calendar app that allows you to view and navigate to events from your phone's calendar. This update also further extends the Model S intelligent driving experience with location-based Smart Air Suspension. Traffic-Based Navigation (BETA)
Routing
The model S navigation system now takes real-time traffic conditions into account when determining your route, and estimated travel times are adjusted to reflect traffic. This feature will also continuously monitor traffic while navigating, and re-route if warranted. To make this feature as good as it can be, we may collect information about the direction, and speed of our customs' vehicles and share it with a partner. This data will be collected and shared without your particular VIN or your personally identifiable information, and we will not collect or share data from the beginning or end of trips. You can disable this feature and the collection and sharing of this data via the TRAFFIC-BASED ROUTING setting in Controls > Settings > Apps > Maps & Navigation
NOTE: The Traffic-Based Routing feature is only available if your Model S is equipped with the Navigation option.
Commute Advice
Even if you do not use navigation on your daily commute to and from work, the Model S navigation system will now monitor traffic between your home and work locations and let you know if there's a faster route due to traffic. This advice is only triggered on weekday mornings and evenings. You can set the time savings required before commute advice is triggered via the setting MIN IMPROVEMENT FOR COMMUTE ADVICE in Controls > Settings > Apps > Maps & Navigation
NOTE: The Traffic-Based Commute Advice is only available if your Model S is equipped with the Navigation option and if you save home and work locations.
Other Maps/Navigation Improvements
Calendar (BETA)
The new Calendar app in your Model S allows you to view your phone's calendar for the current and next day. If a calendar event has a location specified, you will be given the option to navigate to that location. When you have an event on your Calendar that will take place within the next hour and has a uniquely specified location, the Model S navigation system will notify you if there is a better route due to traffic, even if you're not using navigation.
NOTE: You must have the latest Tesla Mobile App, available for Android and iOS phones.
* Please grant calendar access to the Tesla Mobile App when prompted on your phone.
* Your phone must be connected to the Model S via Bluetooth to show your calendar.
* The Tesla Mobile App must be running and you must be logged in. Calendar data will be periodically (and automatically) sent from your phone to the car via the Tesla Mobile App and server. Bringing up the app on your phone will also send updated calendar data to the car.
* Please also make sure that remote access to your Model S is enabled for this feature to work (the REMOTE ACCESS setting is in Controls > Settings > Safety & Security > MOBILE).
* Both your car and your phone need to have good connectivity for the calendar data to be sent and received.
New Power Management Options
This release gives you more control over how your car saves energy. With the NIGHTLY option, your Model S will shift to the energy-saving mode at night only (10pm to 5am), leaving your car more responsive to the mobile app during the day. Additionally, the new "Always Connected' option allows the mobile app to connect to your car more quickly and provides immediate 3G internet access when entering the car, but uses a little more energy. You can access these features via the ENERGY SAVING setting in Controls > Displays > POWER MANAGEMENT.
Location-Based Smart Air Suspension
Location-Based Smart Air Suspension is a new feature that is useful on roads or driveways that require higher clearance. With this feature, your car will remember where you select HIGH or VERY HIGH ride heights. The air suspension will then automatically rise at those locations in the future (a notification will appear on the instrument panel when this comes into effect). To remove this setting for a specific location, please delete it in Controls > Driving, or change the suspension level to STANDARD or LOW at the same location.
The suspension will automatically lower from VERY HIGH to HIGH when driving speed reaches 22 mph (35 km/h), and will lower from HIGH to STANDARD when driving speed reaches 34 mph (55 km/h).
NOTE: Location-Based Smart Air Suspension is only available if your Model S is equipped with Smart Air Suspension.
Custom Car Name
You now have the option to further personalize your Model S by giving your vehicle its own name. The name can be set on the "About Your Tesla" screen and will also appear in the Tesla Mobile App.

Auto wipers on second setting senses rain much better and wipes the windshield quicker without having to manually turn it to max speed to compensate for faster rain drops and will automatically slow down wiping speed when stopped at a light. Confirmed with Tesla SC - Littodevil

NEW FEATURES
Wi-Fi & Tethering
Wi-Fi is available as an alternative data connection method with this release. You can take advantage of a Wi-Fi network at home or work (e.g., useful for enabling the Tesla mobile app or downloading software updates in low-connectivity areas). You can also use a mobile hotspot or your phone's Internet connection via Wi-Fi tethering.
To connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap the 3G icon in the status bar. Model S will start scanning and display the networks in range. Select the Wi-Fi network you'd like to use and enter a password if necessary to connect.
You can also connect to a hidden network that isn't shown on the list of scanned networks. Just tap on "Wi-Fi Settings" and enter the name of the network in the resulting dialog.
Once you've connected to a network, Model S will auto-connect to the network whenever it's in range. If more than one previously connected network is in range, Model S will connect to the last one used.
Note that we plan to prioritize roll-out of future software updates to customers using a home Wi-Fi network; they'll be among the first to receive new updates.
Tow Mode
If your Model S needs to be towed, you can engage Tow Mode. Tow Mode will keep the parking brake disengaged and the car in Neutral. Note that the car must be in Park with the brake pedal pressed before Tow Mode can be engaged. To engage Tow Mode, go to the Controls>E-Brake & Power Of. To exit Tow Mode, you can either press the Tow Mode button again or shift to Park.
Screen Cleaning Mode
To facilitate touchscreen cleaning, there is now a "Screen Cleaning Mode" which will block any touch interactions from inadvertently activating buttons and charging settings during cleaning and will darken the screen so it's easier to see any dust or smudges on the screen. To use this go to Controls>Displays.
Radio Presets Access via Steering Wheel Controls
You can now cycle through your AM/FM/XM radio presents via the left (prev/next) steering wheel buttons when there are two or more presets. If you have fewer than two presets, the steering wheel controls will seek the previous/next station instead.

Maps Improvements
Maps Orientation
You now have the option to orient the map in the direction of travel. You can switch between the "heading-up" mode--where the map is oriented in the direction of travel--and the "north-up" mode by tapping the control in the center of the Maps control bar:
Heading-up tracking mode:
Map is oriented in the direction of travel. Note that the map labels will not adjust as the map rotates so they will be upside down when you are driving south.
North-up tracking mode:
Map is oriented north. Whenever you tap this control, the icon will turn blue, indicating that the map is tracking the car. If you pan or rotate the map with your finger(s) the icon will turn gray and the map will stop tracking the car. Tap it again to re-enable tracking.
Compass
A compass will appear in the lower left corner of the Maps app when the map is in heading-up orientation. You can tap the compass to switch to north-up tracking mode.
Other Improvements
You can now also rotate the map manually with a two-finger rotation motion. Remeber that any manual interaction with the map will turn tracking off.
Performance improvements have been made so the map should be faster and smoother, and any interaction with the map (e.g., rotatin, pinch & zoom, etc.) should be smoother and more responsive.
Navigation route line and traffic display have been improved so the route line no longer fully blocks traffic.
Satellite and traffic buttons now have icons instead of text labels.
Satellite mode now turns off when the car switches to night mode. Tap the satellite button if you'd like to view satellite images at night. Note that the satellite mode settings is preserved for day mode.
Search results for "chain" searches (e.g., Starbucks) have been improved. The nearest location should now always show up first.
Improved Power Management When Not In Use
Model S now consumes less power when not in use. The instrument cluster and numerous touchscreen systems (e.g., Bluetooth, 3G connectivity) may take a few seconds to fully power up when you return to your Model S. The mobile app may also take a while (~45 sec) for the secure connection to the car to be re-established when in this low-power mode.

Front seat heaters' settings are now included in Driver Profiles.
Improved Creep Performance
Creep performance has been tuned so that creep torque is smoother at low speed (< 5 MPH).

The update was for an erroneous Service Needed warning. Provided an enhancement to an algorithm that detects coolant flow.
Unsure what changed, but this seems to have triggered the error message:

Driver Profiles (New Feature)
The Driver Profiles feature remembers and restores positions for the driver's seat, side view mirror, and steering wheel. It also tracks the preferences listed below.
Switch Between Saved Profiles
Model S will save up to 10 Driver Profiles and each will be available regardless of the key used to unlock and drive the vehicle.
To switch profiles, tap the Driver Profile icon in the status bar and select among the list of saved profiles.
Creep (New Setting)
When this setting is enabled, Model S will slowly move forward while in Drive or backward while in Reverse when the brake pedal is released, the same way a car with an automatic transmission does. You will find this setting in Controls > Driving. Note that the Creep setting can be adjusted only when the car is in Park.
Traffic Button in Maps (Functional Improvement)
A Traffic button is now available in the Maps app to make it easier to turn on/off traffic display.
Volume Modulation (Functional Improvement)
We've added more resolution to the volume control to give the driver greater command over audio levels.
Lock/Unlock Buttons (Functional Improvement)
The lock and unlock buttons have been separated to provide easier access to the function.
Mobile App Remote Access (New Setting)
This setting prepares Model S for communication with forthcoming mobile applications that will enable you to remotely check status and control some functions of your Model S. No apps are available yet. You will find this setting in Controls > Settings > Vehicle.

Rated Range (Functional Improvement)
Your Model S provides two Range estimates to help drivers determine driving distance. These range estimates are called Projected Range and Rated Range.
The Projected Range estimate predicts the car's range based on the driver's current driving state. In other words, Projected Range predicts how far the car can travel if the driver were to continue driving in their current style. This number is calculated by looking at energy use over the last 30 miles and assumes consistent energy use until the battery is depleted.
The Rated Range estimate predicts the car's range based on standardized range metrics set by the EPA. When your Model S was delivered, the Rated Range was based on the EPA's 2-cycle test, which yields approximately 300 miles of range after fully charging in Max Range mode. With the new software release, Model S will begin using the EPA's more aggressive 5-cycle test to predict the Rated Range. After a full Max Range mode charge, your Model S will now display approximately 265 - 269 miles of Rated Range.
It is important to note that the energy storage and driving capabilities of your Model S have not changed. Your car is simply using a more aggressive algorithm to calculate Rated Range to match the EPA's 5-cycle test. In practice, this means your Rated Range will be easier to 'beat' with efficient driving and will be more accurate given spirited driving.
Customize Range Display (New Feature)
The available range of your Model S is displayed in three locations: on the Instrument Panel while driving, on the Touchscreen's charging screen and on the Instrument Panel's charging screen. Your car currently displays the Rated Range in all these locations. With the new software, you can now elect to display the Projected or Rated Range. To customize this setting, use the Touchscreen to navigate to Controls>Settings>Units & Format.
Vehicle Entry / Exit (New Feature)
When approaching a parked Model S, the Instrument Panel screen and Touchscreen will turn on when any door is opened and the Media Player will begin playing whatever content was previously selected. The volume will be low until the driver enters the car and closes the driver's door. The volume will then ramp up to the previously set level. On exit, the volume ramps down when the driver door is opened and both screens remain on until the last door is closed. When all doors are closed, the Media Player stops and the screens turn off.

The Calendar app requires the use of the latest Tesla Mobile App, available for Android and iOS phones.

Please note that this release brings fundamental improvements and changes to how your vehicle operates. It is Important to read these Release Notes so that you understand how these changes affect the operation of your vehicle. You may also access these Release Notes at any time by tapping the Tesla T on the touchscreen and tapping the Release Notes link on the "About Your Tesla" window.

Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (Autopilot hardware equipped cars only)
With this release, Model S cruise control has been upgraded to Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (TACC). When TACC is engaged, Model S will adjust its speed based on the car directly in front of you, decelerating and accelerating as needed.
You can now immediately adjust your set speed to the speed determined by Speed Assist. To do so, first check the Speed Assist speed, indicated by the tick mark at the edge of the speedometer. If this speed is appropriate, pull the cruise stalk toward you and hold it for approximately half a second. When you release the stalk, your set speed is the speed determined by Speed Assist, taking into account any OFFSET FROM SPEED LIMIT you've set.
NOTE:
- Do not rely on Speed Assist to determine an accurate or appropriate cruising speed. Always cruise at a safe speed based on traffic and road conditions.
- Please pay attention to the speed determined by Speed Assist before engaging this feature.
- When you're cruising at the speed determined by Speed Assist, the set speed does not change when the speed limit changes.
- If Speed Assist cannot determine the speed limit of the road, your set speed will not change when you pull the cruise stalk toward you and hold it for approximately half a second.
To adjust the TACC set speed manually, simply tap on the cruise stalk up or down as needed. Tapping to the first detent will adjust the speed by 1 mph (1 km/h) and taping to the second detent will adjust to the closest 5 mph (5 km/h) increment. A triangular indicator at the edge of the speedometer will indicate the set speed.
Other TACC functions - engaging, disengaging, initially establishing a set speed, etc. - remain the same as the previous Model S cruise control.
You can adjust the following distance to the car in front of you by rotating the end of the cruise stalk from 1, the shortest following distance, to 7, the longest following distance. This distance will vary depending on your speed.
When TACC is engaged, a CRUISE badge will appear in the speedometer. If the badge is blue, Model S is actively tracking a car and will accelerate/decelerate based on your set speed, the following distance you've set, and the speed of the tracked vehicle. If the badge is gray, Model S is not actively tracking a vehicle and will continue at your set speed as if there were no car in front of you.
NOTE:
- When your Model S comes to a standstill while following a car and remains stationary for 3 to 10 seconds, the CRUISE badge will change to a HOLD badge. If the badge is blue, Model S is actively tracking a car. If the badge is gray, Model S is not actively tracking a vehicle. You will need to resume TACC by pressing the accelerator pedal or pulling on the cruise stalk. A visual notification will appear if you need to do this.
- TACC only has a limited amount of deceleration. Therefore, you should always oversee the system and intervene if corrective action is needed. In particular, Forward Collision Warning notifications may be displayed when TACC cannot handle particular scenarios.
- TACC is not designed for adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow, slippery roads, etc. You should not use the system in such conditions.
- TACC has limited capabilities to detect vehicles merging into your lane at close distances, in which case driver intervention may be required.
- TACC is best for highway driving and not for driving on winding roads or city streets with different types of traffic - e.g. with pedestrians and bicycles.
- TACC may not detect some stationary vehicles or other objects - e.g. pedestrians, motorcycles, cyclists, animals or other small stationary/moving objects.
- TACC may react to vehicles that are not in the immediate path of your Model S, in which case driver intervention is required.
Overtaking Cars
While TACC is engaged, activating the left-turn signal will accelerate your Model S a bit faster than your current speed - if TACC is tracking a car and you are traveling slower than your set speed. TACC will still maintain a following distance to the car in front, albeit shorter than normal. This feature is particularly useful when you need to pass a car on the left. This feature is enabled by default. You can disable this setting via the OVERTAKE ACCELERATION setting located in Controls > Settings > Driver Assistance > CRUISE CONTROL.
NOTE: This feature does not activate below 45 mph (72 km/h).
Auto High Beam (Autopilot hardware equipped cars only)
Auto High Beam is a new convenience feature where Model S will temporarily switch to low-beam headlights if there is traffic or urban lighting detected in front of the car, such as from an oncoming vehicle or street lights. The blue headlights telltale in the instrument panel will display a small "A" when high beams are on. This telltale will turn gray when high beams are not on. Auto High Beam is activated when you turn your high beams on and have enabled this feature via the AUTO HIGH BEAM setting in Controls > LIGHTS.
NOTE: When Auto High Beam is enabled, you can manually turn on the high-beam headlights by pulling the turn indicator stalk all the way towards you.
Forward Collision Warning (Autopilot hardware equipped cars only)
Forward Collision Warning will warn you when there is an object in your path and a collision is likely unless the driver takes corrective action. This warning consists of a visual indicator in the center of the dial in the instrument panel, along with a chime. You can set how early you'd like to be warned, or disable this feature, via the FORWARD COLLISION WARNING setting in Controls > Settings > Driver Assistance > COLLISION AVOIDANCE ASSIST.
NOTE: Forward Collision Warning will not warn you about all possible collisions and may also warn you of collisions that will not occur.
Trip Energy Prediction
To help you better anticipate your charging needs, Model S will now calculate the projected energy remaining at your destination using your predicted speed, the elevation, and other factors along your route. Trip Energy Prediction is only active while using Navigation.
Navigation
The projected energy remaining will briefly be displayed as a percent when a trip is first generated by the Navigation system. Thereafter, you can view it by tapping the area at the bottom of the turn list. While Navigation is active, Model S will also monitor your energy usage and advise you:
- If you need to drive slowly to reach your destination, or if you won't be able to reach your destination without charging.
- Whether Model S has sufficient energy for a round trip - enough energy to get to your destination and back to the starting point of your trip. Tap on the bar at the bottom of the Navigation turn list to see this value.
Trip Chart
You can also monitor energy usage while on your trip via the new Trip Chart in the Energy app. This chart allows you to track Model S's actual energy usage against the initial prediction. To examine the chart in more detail, you can tap on the zoom button in the upper right portion of the chart.
Energy Option for Battery Display
To better support the new Trip Energy Prediction feature, you now have the option to view the energy remaining in your battery as a percentage. You can switch to this view by choosing the ENERGY option in Controls > Settings > Languages & Units > ENERGY & CHARGING.
Smart Preconditioning (BETA)
With this release, Smart Preconditioning will automatically get the cabin climate ready for you, based on the last set temperature and your driving schedule. Model S will observe your driving schedule and when it's confident in identifying a pattern, will start Smart Preconditioning when you are charging, at home, or at work.
NOTE:
- If you do not have a regular driving schedule, Model S will not be able to confidently identify a pattern and may not ever start Smart Preconditioning.
- Smart Preconditioning is only available if you save home and work locations.
New Navigation View: Route Overview
There is now a new way to view your route when you are using Navigation. The Route Overview mode allows you to see the full route on the map. This view will adjust and zoom in on your destination as you make progress on your trip. You can switch to this mode by tapping on the control in the center of the Maps control bar.
Enhanced Park Assist View
With this release, the Park Assist view has been enhanced to provide better guidance when you park your Model S. When you shift to reverse, the Park Assist view will appear, showing any objects that are in close proximity to the front and rear of your Model S. A chime will also sound as your Model S approaches any objects in the front/rear. The Park Assist view will close when you shift to drive unless there are objects close to the front of the car, in which case the Park Assist view will close automatically when the speed exceeds 5 mph (8km/h). You can also close the Park Assist view manually by tapping on the "x" in the upper left-hand corner. If you need to silence the chime, you can top on the mute button, located in the bottom left corner of the window.
NOTE: If you drive with the Camera app active, you will now have the option to switch to the Park Assist view at speeds below 5 mph (8 km/h). This is particular useful if you need assistance while parallel parking. You can switch to the Park Assist view by tapping the button in the upper left corner of the Camera app window.
Reverse Camera Guidelines
To help you back up with more confidence, new guidelines are now available in the Camera view when you shift to reverse. The guidelines will curve appropriately in response to any steering wheel adjustments.
Calendar Enhancements: Meeting Notes & Phone Numbers
With this release, you can now do more with Calendar events: view event notes and easily dial phone numbers associated with an event - e.g., conference call phone numbers, etc. Additionally, you can now use the filter function to control which calendar events appear in the app.
The first phone number associated with an event - e.g., in the event location field or event notes - will be displayed with the event on the main Calendar view. Just tap on it to dial the phone number via the Bluetooth-connected phone.
You can also see all the phone numbers, conference codes, and web links associated with an event by looking at the event notes. Additionally, you can click on a web link inside of an event note and it will open in the Browser app. To view event notes, simply tap on the "i" next to the event.
NOTE: You will need the latest Tesla Mobile App to enable this new feature.
Media App Improvements
Shuffle/Repeat
You can now shuffle tracks in a playlist or repeat any track on a USB drive. Just tap on the Shuffle or Repeat icons beneath the album cover art to enable/disable these options.
TuneIn Podcasts
You can now pause or rewind/fast forward to any point in a TuneIn podcast. To rewind/fast forward, simply manipulate the scrubber bar in the Media app. You can also pick up where you left off in a TuneIn podcast when you return to your Model S.
Improved Rdio Buffering
With this release, there is better buffering for Rdio. You can see the music buffering ahead as the buffer bar "fills up."
Simplified Right Steering Wheel Controls
With this release, the right steering wheel controls have been simplified:
- Scrolling adjusts the most recently used function.
- Pressing on the lower right steering wheel button (Menu button) displays the function list. Pressing the button again closes it.
- Pressing on the upper right steering wheel button (Voice button) allows you to browse the phonebook of a Bluetooth-connected phone. Pressing the button again closes it.
- While on a phone call, you can access Call Options by tapping on the right scroll wheel to act on the active call or access the phonebook.
Factory Reset
You can now use the Factory Reset function to erase all personal data - e.g., saved addresses, music favorites, etc. - and reset all settings to their factory defaults. This is particularly useful when you are transferring ownership of the car - e.g. selling it or giving it to someone else. You will need to enter your My Tesla account information to complete the Factory Reset process. This feature is available via the FACTORY RESET setting in Controls > Settings > Service & Reset > CAR SOFTWARE.
Additional Improvements
- The Consumption graph in the Energy app now defaults to Average Range. The graph also preserves your Projected Range setting selection.
- You can now open your charge port by pressing and holding the trunk button on your keyfob.
- You can now adjust the volume for the Navigation instructions using the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel when the Navigation instructions are being spoken.
- The steering has been tuned for better performance at high speeds. This improvement is predominantly at highway speeds where the steering feels tighter, better damped, and less sensitive to driver input. To adjust to your preferred level, go to Controls > Driving > Steering Mode.
- There is a new Suspension tab that contains the suspension controls previously found in Controls > Driving. The Suspension tab can be found under Controls.

Traffic-Based Navigation (BETA)
Routing
The model S navigation system now takes real-time traffic conditions into account when determining your route, and estimated travel times are adjusted to reflect traffic. This feature will also continuously monitor traffic while navigating, and re-route if warranted. To make this feature as good as it can be, we may collect information about the direction, and speed of our customs' vehicles and share it with a partner. This data will be collected and shared without your particular VIN or your personally identifiable information, and we will not collect or share data from the beginning or end of trips. You can disable this feature and the collection and sharing of this data via the TRAFFIC-BASED ROUTING setting in Controls > Settings > Apps > Maps & Navigation
NOTE: The Traffic-Based Routing feature is only available if your Model S is equipped with the Navigation option.
Commute Advice
Even if you do not use navigation on your daily commute to and from work, the Model S navigation system will now monitor traffic between your home and work locations and let you know if there's a faster route due to traffic. This advice is only triggered on weekday mornings and evenings. You can set the time savings required before commute advice is triggered via the setting MIN IMPROVEMENT FOR COMMUTE ADVICE in Controls > Settings > Apps > Maps & Navigation
NOTE: The Traffic-Based Commute Advice is only available if your Model S is equipped with the Navigation option and if you save home and work locations.
Other Maps/Navigation Improvements
- Improved traffic display with route line: Yellow and red traffic lines are now rendered on top of the route line, making traffic easier to see. Green traffic lines are no longer displayed above the route line.
- In full screen, the turn list shows more of the turns ahead.
- The turn list is now more concise. Repeated consecutive slight turns that keep you on the same road are combined into one instruction.
- Favorites: For vehicles that are not equipped with the Navigation option, you can store frequently used locations to a "Favorites" list under "Places." To mark a destination as a Favorite, select its "pin" (from search results or "Recents"), and then tap the heart icon.
- The MAP MAGNIFICATION option in the Maps & Navigation settings has been removed.
- Updated navigation maps: New maps will be available for your navigation system soon. Your car must be connected to a Wi-Fi network to receive the maps. You'll be notified with an on-screen message once the maps have installed. Map updates will start rolling out gradually after Release v6.0 is launched.
Calendar (BETA)
The new Calendar app in your Model S allows you to view your phone's calendar for the current and next day. If a calendar event has a location specified, you will be given the option to navigate to that location. When you have an event on your Calendar that will take place within the next hour and has a uniquely specified location, the Model S navigation system will notify you if there is a better route due to traffic, even if you're not using navigation.
NOTE: You must have the latest Tesla Mobile App, available for Android and iOS phones.
* Please grant calendar access to the Tesla Mobile App when prompted on your phone.
* Your phone must be connected to the Model S via Bluetooth to show your calendar.
* The Tesla Mobile App must be running and you must be logged in. Calendar data will be periodically (and automatically) sent from your phone to the car via the Tesla Mobile App and server. Bringing up the app on your phone will also send updated calendar data to the car.
* Please also make sure that remote access to your Model S is enabled for this feature to work (the REMOTE ACCESS setting is in Controls > Settings > Safety & Security > MOBILE).
* Both your car and your phone need to have good connectivity for the calendar data to be sent and received.
New Power Management Options
This release gives you more control over how your car saves energy. With the NIGHTLY option, your Model S will shift to the energy-saving mode at night only (10pm to 5am), leaving your car more responsive to the mobile app during the day. Additionally, the new "Always Connected' option allows the mobile app to connect to your car more quickly and provides immediate 3G internet access when entering the car, but uses a little more energy. You can access these features via the ENERGY SAVING setting in Controls > Displays > POWER MANAGEMENT.
Location-Based Smart Air Suspension
Location-Based Smart Air Suspension is a new feature that is useful on roads or driveways that require higher clearance. With this feature, your car will remember where you select HIGH or VERY HIGH ride heights. The air suspension will then automatically rise at those locations in the future (a notification will appear on the instrument panel when this comes into effect). To remove this setting for a specific location, please delete it in Controls > Driving, or change the suspension level to STANDARD or LOW at the same location.
The suspension will automatically lower from VERY HIGH to HIGH when driving speed reaches 22 mph (35 km/h), and will lower from HIGH to STANDARD when driving speed reaches 34 mph (55 km/h).
NOTE: Location-Based Smart Air Suspension is only available if your Model S is equipped with Smart Air Suspension.
Custom Car Name
You now have the option to further personalize your Model S by giving your vehicle its own name. The name can be set on the "About Your Tesla" screen and will also appear in the Tesla Mobile App.
Additional Improvements
- New Feedback Voice Command: There is a new voice command to help you provide feedback. Say "Note", "Report", "Bug note", or "Bug report" followed by your brief comments. The car will capture a snapshot of your system, including screenshots of the two displays. Tesla will review these notes periodically and use them to continue improving Model S.
To initiate a voice command, press and hold the upper right steering wheel button. Wait for the tone and then speak your command while continuing to hold the button down. Then release the button when you're finished speaking.
- Door Handle Improvement: Model S door handles are now more responsive, making the car doors easier to open.
- The instrument panel now has refined graphics, including a streamlined dial and other elements.
- As of version 1.67.80, a bug causing audio distortion on certain music has been fixed.

You can set home, work and favorite locatios on the places menu. The car may also suggest home and work locations based on usage patterns. Note Home/Work requires the Navigation option. - Superchargers and visited chargers
Charging locations are now shown by default on the map and the menu items have been removed. You can now delete items from the visited chargers list. - Battery Meter and Cold Weather
In cold weather part of the battery meter may appear blue to show the portion of the battery that will not be available until the battery reaches operating temperature. If the car is plugged in, you can heat the battery by turning on climate control via the mobile app. - Improved Range Calculations

NEW FEATURES
Wi-Fi & Tethering
Wi-Fi is available as an alternative data connection method with this release. You can take advantage of a Wi-Fi network at home or work (e.g., useful for enabling the Tesla mobile app or downloading software updates in low-connectivity areas). You can also use a mobile hotspot or your phone's Internet connection via Wi-Fi tethering.
To connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap the 3G icon in the status bar. Model S will start scanning and display the networks in range. Select the Wi-Fi network you'd like to use and enter a password if necessary to connect.
You can also connect to a hidden network that isn't shown on the list of scanned networks. Just tap on "Wi-Fi Settings" and enter the name of the network in the resulting dialog.
Once you've connected to a network, Model S will auto-connect to the network whenever it's in range. If more than one previously connected network is in range, Model S will connect to the last one used.
Note that we plan to prioritize roll-out of future software updates to customers using a home Wi-Fi network; they'll be among the first to receive new updates.
Tow Mode
If your Model S needs to be towed, you can engage Tow Mode. Tow Mode will keep the parking brake disengaged and the car in Neutral. Note that the car must be in Park with the brake pedal pressed before Tow Mode can be engaged. To engage Tow Mode, go to the Controls>E-Brake & Power Of. To exit Tow Mode, you can either press the Tow Mode button again or shift to Park.
Screen Cleaning Mode
To facilitate touchscreen cleaning, there is now a "Screen Cleaning Mode" which will block any touch interactions from inadvertently activating buttons and charging settings during cleaning and will darken the screen so it's easier to see any dust or smudges on the screen. To use this go to Controls>Displays.
Radio Presets Access via Steering Wheel Controls
You can now cycle through your AM/FM/XM radio presents via the left (prev/next) steering wheel buttons when there are two or more presets. If you have fewer than two presets, the steering wheel controls will seek the previous/next station instead.

Maps Improvements
Maps Orientation
You now have the option to orient the map in the direction of travel. You can switch between the "heading-up" mode--where the map is oriented in the direction of travel--and the "north-up" mode by tapping the control in the center of the Maps control bar:
Heading-up tracking mode:
Map is oriented in the direction of travel. Note that the map labels will not adjust as the map rotates so they will be upside down when you are driving south.
North-up tracking mode:
Map is oriented north. Whenever you tap this control, the icon will turn blue, indicating that the map is tracking the car. If you pan or rotate the map with your finger(s) the icon will turn gray and the map will stop tracking the car. Tap it again to re-enable tracking.
Compass
A compass will appear in the lower left corner of the Maps app when the map is in heading-up orientation. You can tap the compass to switch to north-up tracking mode.
Other Improvements
You can now also rotate the map manually with a two-finger rotation motion. Remeber that any manual interaction with the map will turn tracking off.
Performance improvements have been made so the map should be faster and smoother, and any interaction with the map (e.g., rotatin, pinch & zoom, etc.) should be smoother and more responsive.
Navigation route line and traffic display have been improved so the route line no longer fully blocks traffic.
Satellite and traffic buttons now have icons instead of text labels.
Satellite mode now turns off when the car switches to night mode. Tap the satellite button if you'd like to view satellite images at night. Note that the satellite mode settings is preserved for day mode.
Search results for "chain" searches (e.g., Starbucks) have been improved. The nearest location should now always show up first.
Improved Power Management When Not In Use
Model S now consumes less power when not in use. The instrument cluster and numerous touchscreen systems (e.g., Bluetooth, 3G connectivity) may take a few seconds to fully power up when you return to your Model S. The mobile app may also take a while (~45 sec) for the secure connection to the car to be re-established when in this low-power mode.

Front seat heaters' settings are now included in Driver Profiles.
Improved Creep Performance
Creep performance has been tuned so that creep torque is smoother at low speed (< 5 MPH).

- Charge Limit
With this release, we have replaced the two charge level options (Standard and Max Range) with a slider that allows you to specify the charge level more precisely.
For daily driving, set the charge limit anywhere within the "Daily" section. Set the charge limit higher--within the "Trip" area--for roadtrips.
Note: We will select a charge limit after the update that is close to the previous Standard setting. Because of a change in the way we determine when to stop charging, you will see a different range compared to previous charging.- To adjust the setting, tap the "Set Charge Limit" button and slide to the desired value.

Note that keeping the displays powered will reduce your car's range up to 8 miles per day when the car is not plugged in, and will also reduce the life of your 12V battery and vehicle electrical systems. If displays are set to power off, the displays will power off 2 hours after the rest of the car goes to sleep. The displays will also power off when the battery charge is low (or after 60 hours without use), regardless of the setting.
- App Launcher - With this feature, you can easily launch an app in the bottom app window (in addition to the current default behavior, where tapping an icon replaces the app in the top window). To try it, tap and hold an application icon. You'll notice a small pop-up indicating the top and bottom viewing panes. Drag the icon to your preferred location. Options: 1) Drag an app icon to the top or bottom portion of the pop-up; 2) Drag an app icon directly to the bottom viewing pane of the touchscreen. A single tap of any icon will place the app in the top pane; 3) If the app is already launched, a second tap will switch it between half-screen to full-screen display. (Note that only certain apps have a full-screen view).
- Release Notes - Release Notes will be displayed on the touchscreen right after the update and can always be accessed later by tapping the Tesla T in the status bar and tapping the Release Notes link

- Auto-Presenting Door Handles - Door handles now present automatically as you walk up to the driver's door with the key. This function works whether the car is locked or unlocked. This feature can be turned on or off via the setting in Controls > Settings > Vehicle
- Alarm - Model S alarm system will sound the horn if any door, trunk or frunk of a locked car is mechanically opened by a non-standard means. The alarm system can be turned on or off via the setting in Controls > Settings > Vehicle
- Metric Distance Unit - Your distance measurements can now be displayed in miles or kilometers. Go to Controls > Settings > Units and Format to adjust. Note that this setting will be saved as part of your driver profile. This setting will affect the following areas in the touchscreen and instrument panel:
- Range
- Speedometer
- Energy chart
- Trip meters
- Google Maps results & turn-by-turn driving directions
- Range Driving Mode - Range mode conserves energy by reducing climate control power.
- Climate control will be limited so Model S cabin heating and cooling may be less effective.
- Seat heaters will turn on to compensate for the restricted cabin heating.
- Synchronized Door Handles - All door handles now present and retract in unison. Previously.a handle ona particular door would retract soon after that door closed without retracting the other handles. Now, all handles will remain extended for one minute after the last door closes.
- USB Media Browsing - The Media app has been enhanced to display music files as they are organized and named on a USB drive. This is especially useful for large music collections explicitly org-anized by folder.
- Connect a USB drive in the port located below the center console.
- Select the Media app and navigate to “My Music & Devices.”
- in addition to viewing content by Artists, Albums, and Songs, you'll now be able to access your media By Folder.
- Alphabetical Index - Lists in the Media and Phone apps now offer a handy alphabetical index to make it easier to find your favorite song, album, artist or key contact.
Tap and slide your finger along the right side of the display. A grey bar with the index will scroll up and down highlighting individual letters to indicate your place on the list. - Calling from Maps - Call functionality has been extended to the Maps application. When searching for a business, results that include a phone number will now offer a Call button for one-tap dialing.
Note:A Bluetooth-enabled phone must be paired and connected to the touchscreen in order to make a call. - Steering Wheel Controls - Fan Speed & Sunroof - The All-Glass Panoramic Roof and the Climate Control Fan Speed can now be adjusted via the rlght-hand scroll wheel.
In addition, while you can continue to program the right scroll wheel to control your most frequently used function, you can now also easily access any individual function as needed. Just tap on the lower right steering wheel button. select "Customize," and select "All." With this selection each time you press or scroll the right wheel, you can pick a different function among climate control temperature, climate control fan speed, display brightness, sunroof, or music source. - Location-Aware Homelink - Link controls are now location-aware, automatically appearing on the touchscreen when Model S approaches your garage door (or gate, etc.). The name of the corresponding programmed location will be highlighted in green. The control disappears when you drive away.
Note: Current HomeLink locations will automatically become location-aware. - Energy App - The Energy app on the touchscreen has been updated to visually highlight the connection between projected range and energy consumption by showing projected range directly on the energy chart. By default, it displays the “instant” projected range, which reflects consumption over the last tenth of a mile. You can also adjust the chart to see projected range based onaverage energy consumption over the previously traveled distance shown across the chart - either 5, 15 or 30 miles. When the car turns off, the projected range display will reset to the “instant” value.
This enhanced Energy app replaces the Range "bar" (which showed projected vs rated range) on the instrument panel and on the touchscreen’s Controls window. Also, projected range is no longer a choice for the instrument panel's center dial. Rather, you can now choose between "Rated" and "Ideal" range, which is based on driving a steady 55 mph on a flat road. - Throttle Response - Advancements in powertrain control now provide you an improved throttle response. These improvements simultaneously deliver torque even more rapidly than before while minimizing any harshness to the acceleration of your vehicle. Whether in stop and go traffic or overtaking on the highway, your Model S now has a smoother, crisper pedal feel for an even more enjoyable drive.

The update was for an erroneous Service Needed warning. Provided an enhancement to an algorithm that detects coolant flow.
Unsure what changed, but this seems to have triggered the error message:
- Car needs service
- Power reduced
Additionally, some owners also received a "Charge Cable Connected" error message as well.
When putting the car into gear (D) [which includes detaching the charging cable if attached], both errors seem to clear.

The Driver Profiles feature remembers and restores positions for the driver's seat, side view mirror, and steering wheel. It also tracks the preferences listed below.
Switch Between Saved Profiles
Model S will save up to 10 Driver Profiles and each will be available regardless of the key used to unlock and drive the vehicle.
To switch profiles, tap the Driver Profile icon in the status bar and select among the list of saved profiles.
Creep (New Setting)
When this setting is enabled, Model S will slowly move forward while in Drive or backward while in Reverse when the brake pedal is released, the same way a car with an automatic transmission does. You will find this setting in Controls > Driving. Note that the Creep setting can be adjusted only when the car is in Park.
Traffic Button in Maps (Functional Improvement)
A Traffic button is now available in the Maps app to make it easier to turn on/off traffic display.
Volume Modulation (Functional Improvement)
We've added more resolution to the volume control to give the driver greater command over audio levels.
Lock/Unlock Buttons (Functional Improvement)
The lock and unlock buttons have been separated to provide easier access to the function.
Mobile App Remote Access (New Setting)
This setting prepares Model S for communication with forthcoming mobile applications that will enable you to remotely check status and control some functions of your Model S. No apps are available yet. You will find this setting in Controls > Settings > Vehicle.

Your Model S provides two Range estimates to help drivers determine driving distance. These range estimates are called Projected Range and Rated Range.
The Projected Range estimate predicts the car's range based on the driver's current driving state. In other words, Projected Range predicts how far the car can travel if the driver were to continue driving in their current style. This number is calculated by looking at energy use over the last 30 miles and assumes consistent energy use until the battery is depleted.
The Rated Range estimate predicts the car's range based on standardized range metrics set by the EPA. When your Model S was delivered, the Rated Range was based on the EPA's 2-cycle test, which yields approximately 300 miles of range after fully charging in Max Range mode. With the new software release, Model S will begin using the EPA's more aggressive 5-cycle test to predict the Rated Range. After a full Max Range mode charge, your Model S will now display approximately 265 - 269 miles of Rated Range.
It is important to note that the energy storage and driving capabilities of your Model S have not changed. Your car is simply using a more aggressive algorithm to calculate Rated Range to match the EPA's 5-cycle test. In practice, this means your Rated Range will be easier to 'beat' with efficient driving and will be more accurate given spirited driving.
Customize Range Display (New Feature)
The available range of your Model S is displayed in three locations: on the Instrument Panel while driving, on the Touchscreen's charging screen and on the Instrument Panel's charging screen. Your car currently displays the Rated Range in all these locations. With the new software, you can now elect to display the Projected or Rated Range. To customize this setting, use the Touchscreen to navigate to Controls>Settings>Units & Format.
Vehicle Entry / Exit (New Feature)
When approaching a parked Model S, the Instrument Panel screen and Touchscreen will turn on when any door is opened and the Media Player will begin playing whatever content was previously selected. The volume will be low until the driver enters the car and closes the driver's door. The volume will then ramp up to the previously set level. On exit, the volume ramps down when the driver door is opened and both screens remain on until the last door is closed. When all doors are closed, the Media Player stops and the screens turn off.
