Model X 2nd row now folds FLAT! (July 1st 2017 update)

The second row backing is definitely not a one off. Just went to look at one. Indeed, the back of the second row is made out of some interesting material, not very Tesla-like. It looks like trunk liner to me. Which is great if you plan on folding them a lot, but not if you have passengers back in the 3rd row quite often. I wish they still offered the monopost option as well, even though I like the fact that now the seats can fold flat if you need them to.
Now, the reason I actually hopped on the forum was to figure out what the zippers do. I was quite curious about that. I noticed them, but they seem to run only on the inside of the seat, where the split happens. At first I thought it's so you can take off the covers and wash them easily. Doesn't seem that's the case. I wish I took photos, but I was in a crazy rush, only had about 10 minutes to look at the back seats (drove almost 2 hours just to find a 7-seater in stock somewhere that I can check out).
Unfortunately, it looks like in the configuration I'm trying to get, they are out of "new inventory" that has the mono post seats, so I'll be stuck with the manual folding ones, if I decide to go with the 7-seater.

Got an update... ended up ordering a new inventory X 7-seater with the flat-fold configuration. It's not far, and they're hoping to actually get it to me in a few days. I'll take some pictures and post them once it arrives. The clear thing is that the back of the second row is made of the same material as the back of the 3rd row. Definitely so that it'll be easier to clean/maintain if folded flat.

So, the zipper on the side of the second row seats. The delivery specialist thinks it is for easy access by the service team to the back of the seats. Here's a photo of the zipper on the side of the seat.

So do you like it? Many down talk the new 7 seater but I haven't seen anyone who actually has it say either way.
It's the option I'd go for myself.
Well, only had it for a few hours. Overall, I love the car. It's all I hoped for and more. And the delivery experience was quite good. I had been reading a lot of posts about delivery issues, and was really worried. Yes, there were a couple things I'll be taking it back for (mostly the FWD alignment), but they were more than happy to oblige.
Regarding the seats: I like the fact that I get a lot more cargo space, even though I probably won't be using it that often. It is an SUV, so it should have that U part. The second row seat folding button takes a bit of adjusting to. Not on my part, but rather on the car's part. I guess you could say it the buttons need to be broken in. On the 60% fold, the button wouldn't work for a while. Then it worked just fine. Then it stopped working again. I'll be taking it in on the 18th for them to check it out.
Couple things I wish:
- either have the option of the fold-flat vs the old ones (due to the electric seats that move up at the touch of a button), or have the fold flats have the electric seats;
- rather than a 60-40 split, have each of them move individually. That way you don't have to pick a certain side for the baby seat, especially if you have two babies.

These are my thoughts so far. More to come, I'm sure, as I get to drive the car a bit more (if I even get the chance, as it'll be primarily the wife's car; I'm waiting for my M3 at the end of the year)
