Actually I wonder if the spoiler flicking up for a hard stop at highway speeds could shave a couple of feet off the stopping distance? Could be the difference between a major accident and a minor fender bender.
Yes, it will.
Spoiler will lift to increase downforce and enable harder braking on the rear wheels and higher drag will by itself increase deceleration rate. No hard data from tesla efexcept that it would be dead stupid no to do it this way.
To make this work you need something better than sticky friction compounds. Maybe it uses a rocket to fire a spike down and embed it into the surface, then spools out a cable to slow the car with?
Better yet, a forward facing retrorocket. Will work even if the car is flying off a cliff! SpaceX may have provided some tech.
And now that I think about it, we still haven't seen the finished nosecone area of the Model X. I think it's very possble the frunk has been sacrificed for a retrorocket.
I am getting the Model X for my wife (she is an Elon Musk fan) and she feels that even the 90D is too much acceleration (about 5-6 sec for 0-60mph), let alone the P90D followed by this mode. Wonder who will use this mode. Seriously.
Yeah right. I'm calling BS on that one! You know they've tested it! That's what they were doing on the docks with what so many thought was a 3 mule! Haha!
As long as it has the following sound played when ludicrous mode is selected. Without the kill part obviously. Perhaps Elon could get a voiceover guy to say "ludicrous speed" instead.
