The answer is provided if you read far enough. For single drivers without much stuff, I would suggest a visit to the auto scales. If your Model X is under 6,001 pounds, IMHO, you should be good to go.

Aah but then you have to fuel it up

UPDATE: curb weight includes fuel... So what the issue? May spoil the idea of the Model X being a yellow cab though

That's a bummer. It made people who live in Chicago or SoCal worried.

The author of the article seems to be confusing Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with "what the car weighs going down the road". Just because the Model X can be over 6,000 pounds, it doesn't mean it always will be. Obviously if you have 7 adults in the car you'll likely be over the limit, but is anyone ever going to get ticketed for this? No.

I would not call the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) the real world weight unless you always drive with the maximum number of passengers and the maximum amount of cargo in the trunk.

The real world weight is the weight the car shows on a scale.

That article is pure clickbait. Not only is the X usually under the weight limit, its never enforced. You'll see Suburbans and big pickups going over it all day long.

I don't know whether it's clickbait, because I thought it was clickbait and didn't read it.

I think you're right, and I think this applies to a lot of the other negatively-toned Tesla news articles I've seen recently too.

Well, to be fair, a modestly loaded Model X would exceed 3 tons. But so would an Escalade, Land Rover LR4, Yukon Denali...

Nahh, just go across it with a very low charge level... lighten the load.

The posted sign doesn't specify Gross Weight -- which may suggest curb weight. So no issue. Even if there were Seven 200 Lb people in the X, should the police stop and weigh the vehicle, the passengers out, would be still the curb weight. These aren't enforced simply because it requires a documented measurement to enforce. So unless the vehicle is obviously over-loaded, the police don't have inclination to go through the hassle. It's not like trying to collect tax on 2 cigs which is more important.
