model X charge port door

I was told at delivery this past Friday and confirmed today that the mobile connector's ability to open the charge port door is not not yet implemented on the model X. At least the door will close on its own.
That certainly holds true in my case. I can open it from the touch screen I think, haven't tried that yet, also from the app - did try that, and by pushing on the door itself. Not sure that is the greatest idea, but it's what the delivery specialist did.
So, has anyone heard anything about when the mobile connector's ability to open that little door will be implemented? Seems like that is the most convenient way to get the job done.

I heard the same thing - it is likely to come in a future update; but I'm beginning to doubt that after a few updates. :)

Touching the door is the right thing to do here. You can open from the charge screen, but since the functionality is on the door it's not a big deal to do it while there.

For what it's worth, I'm guessing they are considering moving away from the button on the charge cord, for a couple of reasons. First, it's not always reliable - on my current HPWC #1, you sometimes have to hold the cable above the liftgate glass and press it before the car will pick up the signal. Second, if you want to have fun sometime at a Supercharger, wait until owners have put the cable away and are starting to get into the car, then press your button at the Supercharger... their port will open too. Lots of fun for all ages!

Ever since they did the auto-open and auto-close charge door, the touch seems to work fine. I don't mind it, although my muscle memory from having to hit the button still kicks in now and then.

When I first got our X, the Open Charge Port option was on the Door screen, which appears as soon as you enter Park. This was quite convenient. I'd open the drivers door and the charge port with two quick presses.

However, on a recent update, the option to open the charge port from the Door screen was eliminated. Now you have to enter the Charge screen, frankly a pain in the a**.

I've found that pushing the door manually sometimes works, but more often, the door resists, opens only part ways and the light doesn't come on.

Bring back the option on the Door screen, and I'll be a happy camper.

On the Model S I could open the charger port by pressing the button on the top of the charging cord. It doesn't work on the Model X.

That's my experience as well, so far. I'm not sure that will ever change.

I wonder why the UMC can't open the X charge port, just yet. This worked in every single Model S starting from the first released in June 2012. Unless there is something radically different in the UMC, I can't fathom why this wasn't implemented. Have we confirmed that the UMC is exactly the same as those delivered with Model S vehicles?

The UMC that came with my X will open the charge port on my 2013 Model S, but not the X. Not really an issue, I just give the front portion of the port door a slight push and it pops open. Also, I love the self closing feature on the X.

I just got an X and use the J1772 adapter with my existing EVSE. It also doesn't open the door. The self closing feature is more important to me because with my other EV's I often forget to close the charge port door. I always get reminded by other drivers on the road.

Yes, the UMC is exactly the same.

The door open mechanism requires a transmitter in the UMC (which it has - my Model X UMC can open my Model S door), and a receiver in the car.

I suspect there's no receiver in the Model X to receive the signal from the UMC or Supercharger handle. I also suspect that Tesla believes the "touch to open" doors on later Model S and all Model X no longer require remote opening, since you can simply touch to open it (and if that fails, "open charge port" on the touchscreen as a backup). It also solves the problem of one person at a supercharger opening the charge doors of every car within a 50 foot radius.

Maybe I missed the instructional portion of the touch to open during our X delivery. Do you push it and it pops open?

If the car is unlocked / fob in your pocket, you push on the front edge of the door and it will then open.

While traveling this weekend I stopped at a supercharger and met a model S owner and started a conversation while charging. Realizing he had to get to work, model S went to unplug with no success...panic set in...finally, he pushed and held the fob and it released. As a newby I have had problems disconnecting and FlasherZ helped me realize that the car has to be unlocked. My model S friend had lowered the windows and as we talked the car automatically locked making it appear unlocked.

That's correct. And that's how Tesla prevents others from disconnecting your car from the charger.
