Model X December Deliveries

That's how you solve a problem! It takes all of us to make EV transportation a reality. Well done!

Just my 2 cents:

1. Will you be able to get the tax credit without the delivery of the actual vehicle? If IRS thinks signing all the paperwork = delivery of vehicle then it will work for you.

2. I will email my DS with all the concerns and to confirm that they will be held responsible for fixing any issue that you find during delivery. Then at least you have some black and white to show them to avoid any confusion.

I had the same email, that my X will be ready for delivery middle of next week, they want to date the paperwork for 28th as it is on track before the end of the year. Then at the end of the email it said the delivery wound be no later than early january at the latest.

Tesla said as long as the X left the factory and is paid for I can claim it as a 2016 purchase on my taxes. Is this true?

I'm thinking they will register the car to us even if we don't have possession. They of course want to do it for their sales numbers, which I care less about. I expect some serious customer service at this point after the numerous delays. In addition, something was so wrong with my car to keep it in production for over forty days, do really want it sight unseen?

Not as far as I know. Here's the key phrase from the IRS themselves:

.07 Acquired. A vehicle is not “acquired” before the date on which title to that vehicle passes under state law.

But if they register it as mentioned above, I think it meets the criteria.

This was from this document.

But the smartest thing would be to ask a tax accountant. Worst case, you can claim next year.

Took delivery of my MX 90D at the Decatur, GA SC today. Really happy with it - had a great experience. They were super patient and I was there for about 2 and a half hours total.

Before I get into the details - just want to say that again. I am so happy with the car. It rides great, all the features I picked were perfect, and it looks fantastic. All the little details on alignment, etc. - don't care about it at all now that I actually have the car. Nothing is perfect - if I compare the car as it is now to how it would be with all the issues I found fixed, it would increase from a 9.9999 to a 10. Really was delivered in great condition and exceeded my expectations. Oh, and it is so fast. Just so fast... cannot imagine what the P100D is like - I could barely unlesh the 90D without running into something.

A few details for those interested...

The vehicle on My Tesla switched to a new status about 24 hours prior to my appointment (right around when the store manager said it had arrived) - "Your Tesla is undergoing preparation for delivery".

Arrived at the SC on time - could barely find a parking spot - must have been 50 cars awaiting delivery. I was at the same SC a month ago and it had maybe 10 cars waiting. Two cars were dropped off by trucks straight from Freemont while I was taking delivery - no idea where they are going to put them all.

Let my kids take a look with me before we did any paperwork (they just checked it out with my wife and left shortly after - remaining for the whole thing would have bored them). During the excitement I almost forgot to take pictures of the kids and my wife and I with the car - grabbed them from the car and made that happen before they left.

Paperwork was easy (financed via Tesla) and took about 15 minutes. They had it all ready to go. Nice umbrella waiting for me in a gift bag in the car - no other freebies but no big deal. They actually ran out of rear license plate holders but said they would give me next time I was at the SC.

Spent a while inspecting the car with the Product Specialist - I read the checklist before going but decided to focus mostly on looking for anything that was worn or damaged and didn't actually follow the checklist while I was there. She was very patient.

MC Pearl White paint looked great - no damage at all or imperfections - maybe a few parts that needed buffing (they said they would detail when I came back next time). Saw a slight nick on the driver's side mirror but it will probably buff out too.

Hot topic here so I will address it. I did see a few alignment issues. I looked at a few cars (including my other brand car at home) and most have these to varying degrees. Honestly - I was really worried about this from reading this thread (it was the first thing I checked). I don't really care now that I have had the car for a few hours. They wrote down the alignment problems between the brightworks and doors - it really was very minimal (about 1-2 millimeters off). Since they documented it I have the option of them trying to improve/fix it - but I am sure they would have done it via warranty anyway.

Saw a few nicks on the plastic on the frunk and one other area in the back - something I would probably do myself in about 20 minutes putting something in the car. Wrote it down but not a big deal.

Some slight issue with the aluminum on the trim inside the FWDs - but not a big deal. Also something looked like curb rash on one of the rims but I think it is some glue now that I have it home - they did write that down too though.

I made a SC appt before I left - about 4 weeks out due to how busy they are. The issues on the list were all so minimal I am not even worried about getting any of them fixed. I wrote them down so I have the option, but am a little hesitant to have them pull apart the car for stuff that is really not a big deal. Maybe they have easy ways to adjust this stuff so it is good to check just in case.

I did notice there were some scratches on the center console cover once I got home - wish I saw that when I was there - will e-mail them about it. Again, not a big deal since I am sure the gloss obeche will get some scratches here and there as it actually gets used.

The product specialist spent over an hour going over the features after that. Really patient and despite having an MX at one point overnight during the sales process and watching so many videos - she showed me a few things I wasn't aware of.

When it was all done I checked to see if they had a Chademo adapter in stock or all weather mats (no on both fronts). Strangest thing is you really don't leave with any paperwork - you just drive off into the sunset after the walk through.

Been sitting in my car for a few hours setting things up. Had a pending update so I did that too - took over an hour and the car appears to be totally broken when it is in the middle of the update. Just let it finish and it will spring back to life.

Ok - long post! Will try to get some pictures up later but it is a super nice feeling once you get the car finally. Based on how many I saw in the lot I am sure the folks still waiting will hear some news soon. They are moving fast into this last week of the year!

Thanks all for the support on this thread - fun ride through all of this :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this detailed post!...how many black MXs did you see there?

In Oregon you can't title an out-of-state, or new, vehicle without a physical VIN inspection. So you can't get it titled without actually having the car in your possession. It may differ in other states.

Fortunately I'm in California so shouldn't be an issue. How long did it take to transport once on truck? I mean even if they try to get it done Wednesday, when would I get the car?

Has anybody waited until they received car at their house to do paperwork or is this sight unseen thing normal?

No problem! To add onto my post - even happier with my purchase after driving it all over Atlanta today. Did the "holiday" show a few times - folks were floored.

Did not spend too much time looking through the inventory but there were many more MSs than MXs. Don't recall the color mix unfortunately. Was worried about finding a parking spot at the time since we were already a few minutes late for our appointment.

Saw a blue MS coming off a truck during the delivery. There was an MX P90D next to mine (also Pearl White) waiting for delivery. A before and after picture (at the SC delivery room and at home) attached. MX was much happier at home :)

Congrats and did you already install the home charger? If so how much was it? Any recommendation for electrician?

Not yet gotta get my charging set up ready. My delivery was initially mid Feb so didn't bother the charging set up ready then last week it changed from Late Jan 2017-Feb to Late Dec- Jan 2017. Next thing I find out car enter in production and done in 3 days so I got surprised of the sudden delivery. Worse case I ll use the Supercharger as pass by the Fremont factory everyday on my way to work :D
Are you in the Bay Area?

Wow! Your MX is gorgeous! I really like the white on white! I don't think there's a company out there that does white better. And I understand you not being able to recall the color mix when your focus was rightfully taking delivery of your vehicle. My turn is coming and I can't wait! Christmas Eve isn't tomorrow for me, it's on 12/26;)

Thanks! I drove a demo vehicle with the MC Pearl White, Ultra White seats, and Obeche Gloss trim - loved the combo so much I ordered it for myself. Never seen anything like it from another manufacturer - especially with the super soft synthetic material.

Share some pics when your delivery day gets here. Just a few more days for most folks on this thread!

My DS finally gave me a call just now to set up an appointment next Wed for delivery. He said my X is in the final stage of production and blah blah blah BUT if it is not ready by Wednesday then we will need to reschedule. I am still skeptical about this appointment although I feel relieved for a second when I saw his number ringing in my phone.

Today, My DS just told me that my car should be ready by next Monday, and schedule me a tentative delivery date. Are they doing that for all of us?

Scheduled for my delivery tomorrow! So excited.

After reading all these posts I feel really lucky having everything on schedule, first test drive was Nov 20 and that's when i placed down the deposit. Production took 5 days and left factory on Dec 6. Just arrived here in Toronto earlier today
