Model X Delivery Delays

Update on my delivery.... Sure enough they scheduled delivery when I was on vacation. Called and moved it for the day after I got back last Sunday. Delivery Specialist told me to expect to review documents that should be sent a couple of days before my delivery date. Told the Delivery Specialist I would be traveling from France back to California on Saturday. So when does she send an email to review? Saturday at 5:45pm (17 hours before delivery). To top it off they left out my trade in on the paperwork so expected me to part with an additional 51k due at signing. }}}Fast forwarding past everything to get the paper work right}}}} I sign docs and asked the delivery specialist whats next? He says do you have the app? I say Yes.. He says go out to the parking lot and honk your horn on the app to find your car.... (My JAW DROPS) I say " I just signed an agreement to buy a 116K car and you expect me to just go into the parking lot and find it?" He says "Yes" I say what if it has defects... he says, "O No we go over your car with a fine tooth comb"... Sure enough as I walk to the car I can see an inch and a half scratch on the bumper.

So I was scheduled for delivery tomorrow night (12/10) and received a call this afternoon. Someone from the delivery center/store said my car came in last week but they found it had a bad motor. It was sent back and another vehicle was ordered. Now I won’t get the new one until 12/19. The employee said they put notes in the system for the sales agent but apparently he was on vacation again. I picked up the cashiers check earlier in the day, had the insurance all squared away and was expecting to take delivery tomorrow. They said they would make it up to me somehow but I don’t know what what exactly that means or how much discretion they have for customer service issues such as this.

Probably very little. I received my VIN 2 weeks ago, obtained my financing, had my check overnighted and now they tell me My X was built with the optional 22" wheels so they are going to have to reorder - they don't care what problems that causes for me. I have a signed contract with the VIN and agreed price and they will not honor it.

My 2018 X 12V battery service came on last night, my powerwall has no install date after 3 months and my new 2 week delivery X has no update after 9 weeks. I cancelled my order this morning. I cannot continue giving money to a company that performs like this no matter how much I love my wife's X.

They usually like to throw around wall chargers. When they messed up my order (wood-grain trim as opposed to carbon), they said they were going to throw in a wall charger, but I already had one. So they instead gave me a year of supercharging. They seem to have a real issue making sure the cars are delivered with the ordered options/trim. I love the car, but their service and attention to detail have A LOT of room for improvement.

That's a bummer but understand.

I just logged in today and it was asking for final payment, no email or anything. Also noticed my VIN changed (not like I care). Hopefully I'm days away from the car.

Well they didn't change my VN, just my configuration. This really is amateur hour though. I have special ordered 3 Corvette and 4 Ford Trucks. I always had my VIN weeks if not over a month in advance. Knew @ when delivery was going to be - didn't get text messages with only days advance notice. They never built my vehicle wrong and then tried to upsell me. If Tesla does not get their act together they will have problems once there is some actual competition.

Agreed. That is why I counsel perspective buyers that they need to be prepared for this sort of thing. If they are expecting the process and service like those from companies who have had 50 years to perfect it, they will be disappointed when dealing with a still very new car company. Those folks who want or need a perfect (or near) should probably stay with companies they are accustomed to.

It seems reasonably evident that they are getting vehicles on trucks so that they can maximize vehicles delivered for this quarter. I understand the why of this, but there's a negative consequence that can result:

One thing that is particularly frustrating and concerning about this is that for CA buyers, we may not have the opportunity to refuse delivery if there are issues with the vehicle which require resolution as it's required that we also take delivery in 2019 to claim the tax credit.

If this does end up happening, there's a good chance that I'll be so frustrated by that point that I just cancel the purchase. I get that Tesla is trying to maximize a business objective, but it's beyond just inconvenient for those being affected by it. Especially given that we purchased in October when the delivery lead times were still advertised as being in the "2 week" range.
