My Model X started to have door latching problems yesterday afternoon. Driver side door would make clicking noises and had a hard time opening and closing, took maybe 10 times to close the door.. So I emailed Tesla support and they said a specialist would get back to me soon.

So 24 hours later, still no contact. Decide to take the car out since it was still manageable, just had to close the doors a bunch of times to latch. After dinner, we get in the car and the door is in full freak out mode. The red light on the side of the door is flashing, door wont latch...the car lurches forward by itself and stops. And the car door won't open. So i get in from the passenger side to get to the drivers seat and the door pops open. I finally get the thing to close and latch but the car still thinks its open.

At this point we call Tesla roadside and are put on a 15 minute hold and decide to drive the 15 miles home and deal with it there while still on hold with Tesla.

While driving home the car totally bugs out. It started saying the key was not present in the car and the card won't restart if it is stopped. The windows start opening by itself. The car starts making clicking noises as if its trying to open itself and the AC system starts sending the air to the front windshield for some reason.

Finally we get home and still no call back from Tesla roadside (we opted to change it to where they call us back when our line in the queue is reached). It wasn't until maybe 40 minutes from our original call that Tesla roadside called back.

We asked for a tow and they said they couldn't tow until the morning and wanted me to re-calibrate the car. I'm like...my parking garage is like a 10 minute walk away..so I'd rather Tesla just tow it and deal with it since there were a bunch of smaller low priority items that needed fixing anyway like door alignments and windows automatic up and down not working.

I always heard about how Tesla had great service, but Tesla roadside definitely is not what I categorize as great service. In the past, if I had issues with my BMW or Mercedes, there was no hold to reach their roadside assistance and a tow was sent right away.

When the car works, its still the overall best car I've ever owned but damn..this doesn't give me warm fuzzies about the reliability of the car when it is out of warranty. Here's hoping they at least provide a rental

Below are videos of the issues

Did you get tinting releasing or go to the body shop or something 3rd party installing??

Thats crazy, is your X an early build? I certainly would hate it if my X started misbehaving.

Appreciate the videos, it provides a better understanding of your issues and it will also keep some of the forum members from calling your situation a fake.

Sorry to hear about that. ABout your point of being on hold for roadside assistance-- had been on hold many times, most recently for mercedes GL550 for flat tire. I challenged wife to call vs. me change the tire. I finished changing flat faster than the roadside call. PSA: GL550 tire and wheel is heavy. Sometimes better to wait.

Front door latches are a known issue; service center needs to replace them with the new version.
Fob not inside the car is a known issue; service center needs to flash both fobs with revised firmware.
It sounds like Roadside Assistance needs a new version as well.

Im very forgiving on Tesla but one thing i cant forgive them for is making u wait 40 minutes for roadside assistance in a situation like this. I had to call once after tinting my windows and thought the wait time was ridicoulus.

That is an early VIN for later July delivery. Mine was 57xx for early May.

8.0 for X is coming this week according to Elon's tweet yesterday. Window moving up is a normal part of the door closing and latching.

yeah when the door closes its supposed to move up. Not when you are driving at highway speeds and it decides to open all the way down for no reason. Then you put it back up and it starts inching back down again. At the same time the car is not recirculating air and venting to front windshield..error messages of key not being present..

red light on the driver door flashing while driving..

    Cruise control disabled

    not normal behavior

I hate seeing posts of problems as I await delivery of my MX later this month. I'm tempted to cancel and switch to the MS.

Try re-setting the entire car by going into the display at the bottom left and powering off the entire car.

tesla roadside called back and asked me to try re-calibrating it by using a pen and sticking into the door jam while pulling the door lever. Will try it out later this morning, if not, will attempt to drive it to local service center

Good observation......when my latches were replaced I was told that Tesla was on their 3rd version of that product. Have to presume that OP's latches were V1 and thus problematic.

btw: sorry to hear about your challenges....FWIW: since new latches were placed in my X, no issues......

Well calibration did the trick and decided to drive it around and 15 minutes into the drive started freaking out again. On my way to service center.

SC has no rentals for a week so just letting them fix the driver door. Said it would take a couple hours

Wow good luck. We have had virtually no issues with our X thus far. Had it since last Wed. Would be very upset like you are if we had this experience. I know in the end they will take good care of you but this sounds like you did not receive the level of attention and service you deserved.

Service fixed the doors by changing the latches. Also said lots of service updates they had to do. Although they didn't give me a printout or anything saying what was done.

    Service gets a B. Roadside assistance gets a C-

Still love the car even though it still has a list of minor issues I'll eventually take care of

If only they had traditional doors and locks they would be selling twice as many with half the warranty expenses.

I've had 2 Model S's before my X. Both were the best cars I have ever had, but the X is a cut above. More comfortable, more space, the doors while they have caused others some issues are hands down the coolest engineering feat I've ever seen. You certainly can't go wrong with an S, but you will love the X.
