Model X Launch In Oz

Launch wasn't too bad. They had 2 cars available, a 7 seater and 6 seater version. They were LHD as I expected. We all got to ride in them, they had test drives, however due to the LHD, only the staff were taking us around. They were very vague in the detail with the new 100 kW packs, I think info is still trickling out.

The X is fantastic, we are sold on them. Once we saw them in the flesh, it confirmed our decision to purchase.
I think the 6 seater is a better option, however if you have a need for the 7 seater, it's not too bad, it makes the third row a little tight.FWD, auto opening front doors, are amazing. Windshield, wow.

The pearl white looks really good, I ordered the obsidian black, but that white is making me reconsider. No white interiors to look at, all black.

On another note, they are very confident that Sydney to Brisbane will be done by years end.

Sounds pretty similar to the HK launch that started last month. Two LHD X (one 6 seat, the other 7).

The thinking seems to be to get all the reservation holders to confirm orders and configuration, so that they can start building the cars. LHD/RHD doesn't make much difference for that step, so why delay it three months or more for the first RHD cars to be built and shipped out here.

Conspiracy theory: Anyone remember two years ago and the AP fiasco? Tesla having to rebuild all those AU signature cars to include AP. Perhaps the delay in seeing the first RHD cars is Tesla trying to avoid a repeat of that. Delay the production until AP 2.0 starts going into the cars. The timing seems about right.

I don't know how much the launch of the P100D had to do with the Australian launch. Either Tesla HQ co-ordinated them for the same day on purpose, or the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and Tesla Australia got caught short.

I thought the Model X configurator would have gone live for Australia after the launch too..

Thanks for the picture and comments Championi.
I am still tortured by pearl white, wondering whether to change...have you ever seen sig red in the flesh to compare?
How were the fits and finish?
Were they P90D or smaller?

They didn't have a red, the other X was a blue.
They had a red MS there and it looked really nice.
The fit and finish looked perfect, everything looked straight with the panels.
The 2 model X's they had were P90D. The ludicrous launch is still awesome even with the heavier X

I got there on Wednesday too. Championi nailed the vibe and what we saw. I had our 15 y.o. with me (mum couldn't get up from Melbourne that afternoon) and he was grinning from ear to ear all night after the all too quick (in all senses) hundred metres or so we were given to get a feel for the acceleration! Re the 100, the Melbourne delivery specialist said to me that they are waiting to hear from Fremont whether current order holders (we configured in June) can amend the order (which we will do if we can) vs do a post production upgrade (given the 2x price differential). In the meantime the local team is keeping a register of current order holders who want to convert to the 100 (and given range is a bigger issue in Aust than UK or HK it is here where this issue is most keenly felt.

Ah i think i saw you. I distinctly remember thinking how awesome it was that a dad brought his teenage son as his plus one. I was also thinking that our son would have had a similar look of awe on his face too.
Need our DS to confirm pricing and timing first but see no reason unless either of those points becomes ridiculously blown out, that we won't upgrade to P100DL. As you say, getting over 500km range is very tempting despite that i have spent a year convincing myself i only need that rarely.

Yeah guys I was straight onto Kate and Owen- I really want the extra range.
OzWill are you under the same impression as me that our Sig orders are not more expensive than optioning up a production vehicle? I believe we got the sig option due to long standing orders, and we are not paying a premium for it...?

The signature model S cars basically had all options ticked so were at the top end of the pricing for that drivetrain (85, P85 or P85+ at that time). You also got access to Sig Red paint and white leather which weren't available to standard reservations. Beyond that Indont believe that there was a price penalty (other than the larger deposit you had to put down up front).

I propose a new game - "Where's The X?"

Further to the post on the spotted thread showing the model Xs at the St Leonards showroom I thought I would swing by there and press my nose up against the glass - No X.

I was on my way to the city and so also wandered past the Martin Place showroom - No X.

They appear to have gone underground (perhaps literally?). Anyone seen them around this weekend?

They have sent them over to Melbourne for a mini launch there. They said they will bring them back in a week or two. I think one will end up at Martin Place and possibly St Leonard's, unless they keep one in Melbourne

Yes re Sig option and cost more or less, though I havent done the maths precisely. Re the 100, I was called this week by the very helpful sales team at St Leonards and was able to convert my order from the 90 to the 100. Cost is the US $10k for vehicles not yet in production (for once I was grateful that things hadn't moved faster for the RHD version), which then has conversion to AUD and another 30% for luxury car tax added. Still no word on delivery timing, but I'm guessing January more likely than December at this point.

Anyone else who converted to 100 had your order updated in My tesla yet? Mine still showing the old order.

Notice over in LHD land the first 100s are being delivered next week! Ok so whats with the interminable delays for RHD. Is it as someone posted above that you think they are delaying for AP2.0? I wouldnt mind if there was a rational reason but when people in the usa are coming new to the X party, literally finding out about and ordering their first tesla only weeks ago and having those Xs made and delivered, then i am failing to see why all we get is the sound of crickets....

Because we are a small market and we are far away...mostly, we are far away? It's difficult for a group of 1500 to put pressure on Tesla (at all), even if we lived next door to the factory. Elon is having a bad time finishing that blog at the moment too, don't forget :)
