My purchase agreement on my Model X in July state $21,000 for Performance Mode plus $20,000 for Ludicrous.
Fortunately I was credited $20,000 for the LUDICROUS mode for being a loyal customer (my fourth Tesla). Total $130,700

Guess my loyalty ran short. Looks like the configurator for my same vehicle now includes LUDICROUS mode with the Performance mode. Total $113,990

Thought I was getting an instant $20,000 equity for my loyalty. So much for that party. Guess it is FREE for ALL now.

I really feel for the suckers who paid $20,000 for it.

LUDICROUS.

You're complaining because Tesla gave you a lower price 2 months before everyone else? /confused

Tesla presented it as a Loyalty Perk (not a two month perk). As a man of business, I purchased the vehicle to gain the $20,000 in equity. Now the equity value has vaporized. My vehicle just depreciated $20,000 in two months. Not to mention that all those who ever purchased the $20,000 LUDICROUS option. They have all lost about $20,000 in value. So much for loyalty.

How might you feel if next week your Model 3 Performance went on sale for $35000? Lucky that you had it for a few months before the price value plummeted?

Count your blessings. I Purchased in August 2018. The car was a demo with 4000 miles on it with MSRP off $160,000. My price was $130,000. I thought I was getting a good deal ha ha ha ha.

The price with LUDICROUS included has actually gone up. Also the interior upgrade is no longer free. So still consider yourself lucky.

I think the point being made without sufficiently precise language is that with the free Ludicrous offer you presumably paid $110,700 for a car that would now cost someone $113,990 - so by buying then you saved ~$3200 compared to buying today. Not nearly as much as you thought you were saving with the special offer, but not a trivial amount, either.

Unless, of course, you get a DMV person who calls that a dealer discount and insists on charging tax on the full value of the MSRP, despite the Tesla prepared paperwork stating the lower price is the taxable value, like some of us did...

If you're using the word equity when talking about a depreciating asset like a car, you're setting yourself for disappointment regardless of the manufacturer.

Beg to differ. I've purchased over 23 vehicles, many from vehicle auctions and there are at least a dozen of them that I have sold for more than I paid for them.

But you got me on this one. Bought an SC 430 with 10k miles for $30,000, drove it for about a year and added 10K miles and sold it for $29,995. Lost $5 on that one.

Ouch. Now you have me looking at my Bill of Sale and Tax! I still feel for the folks who paid $20k for LUDICROUS on the S and X a few months ago.

Every supplier and consumer has a plan until they get hit with a demand curve.

Your post makes no sense because you did save 20,000 plus reduced registration and taxes on that amount on THAT DAY.

The next day, the car could go up 1K, 500 bucks or drop 100K. Which should be a non factor to you as you bought the day before.

Your anecdotes are irrelevant and meaningless.

Let me start telling stories of how much I bought and sold a 2006 Honda Accord for..

Brianman was making the point that there is no such thing as equity in a car. Not true. Point made.

The point was that TESLA presented the discount as a loyalty bonus which it apparently was not.
Wingman, The value of any given car the next day is purely speculative and not germane to this conversation.
